  • In this paper, we analyzed performance of signal detection for terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting (T-DMB) system in various channel environments that applied gaussian, Rayleigh and COST 207 environments that estimate response of real channel state. In order to detect the signal, a signal detection scheme based on energy detection is employed. We generated T-DMB signals so that estimate properly simulation result. For evaluating the signal detection performance, detection probability is derived. We consider two kinds of detection segment, which are three segments and five segments. And we compare the system performances in accordance with the detection segment. From simulation results, it is confirmed that the performance of signal detection is raised as increase the number of segments. The result of this paper can be applied to implement signal detection of broadcasting system.

  • Several neutron measuring devices were tested under the neutron fields characterized with two distinct kinds of thermal and fast neutron spectrum. These neutron fields were constructed by the mixing of both thermal neutron fields and fast neutron fields. The thermal neutron field was constructed using by a graphite pile with eight AmBe neutron sources. The fast neutron field of 14 MeV was made by a DT neutron generator. In order to change the fraction of fast neutron fluence rate in each neutron fields, a neutron generator was placed in the thermal neutron field at 50 cm and 150 cm from the reference position. The polyethylene neutron collimator was used to make moderated 14 MeV neutron field. These neutron spectra were measured by using a Bonner sphere system with an LiI scintillator, and dosimetric quantities delivered to neutron surveymeters were determined from these measurement results.

  • This paper presents a road detection technique for spaceborne synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images. Roads are important cartographic features. We incorporate an active contour model called snake as a model for the road and define a new external energy for snake which is appropriate for the road. Detecting roads in spaceborne SAR images is very difficult without other information. In this paper, digital maps are utilized to obtain the initial position and shape for snake. Only approximate geodetic location of roads appearing in SAR images can be known through geocoding process and usual digital maps also have location errors. Therefore, there exist large location offsets between the two data. By introducing initial matching procedure, the errors are reduced significantly. Then we initialize the snake's shape using the roads extracted from digital map and minimize the energies of all snake points to detect roads. We outline two problems in detection and propose a method that mitigates them.

  • We have designed a high resolution proton and electron telescope for the detection of high energy particles, which constitute a major part of the space environment. The flux of the particles, in the satellite orbits, can vary abruptly according to the position and solar activities. In this study, a conceptual design of the detector, for adapting these variations with a high energy resolution, was made and the performance was estimated. In addition, a parallel processing algorithm was devised and embodied using FPGA for the high speed data processing, capable of detecting high flux without losing energy resolution, on board a satellite.

  • In this paper, we propose a flame detection method using Haar wavelet and moving averages in outdoor infrared video sequences. Our proposed method is composed of three steps which are Haar wavelet decomposition, flame candidates detection, and their tracking and flame classification. In Haar wavelet decomposition, each frame is decomposed into 4 sub- images(LL, LH, HL, HH), and also computed high frequency energy components using LH, HL, and HH. In flame candidates detection, we compute a binary image by thresholding in LL sub-image and apply morphology operations to the binary image to remove noises. After finding initial boundaries, final candidate regions are extracted using expanding initial boundary regions to their neighborhoods. In tracking and flame classification, features of region size and high frequency energy are calculated from candidate regions and tracked using queues, and we classify whether the tracked regions are flames by temporal changes of moving averages.

  • The semiconductor detector has a high sensitive to radiation and a small volume. It has been frequently used in high energy photon and electron beamdosimetry. However, Semiconductor detector are subject to radiation damage in high energy radiation beam which reduces the sensitivity and creat a large discrepancy. In this experiments, P-type semiconductor was irradiated to 18 MeV electron beam with pre-irradiation for reducing the sensitivity for high reproducibility and investigated the dose characteristics against the dose rate variations. The sensitivity per unit dose in small dose rate showed a 35% large different to a large dose rate with pre-irradiation dose for 0.5 KGy and 20% for 3 KGyin this study. The silicon detector has showed a large dependency of beam direction with 13% discrepancy and a linear sensitive as increased temperature.

  • We measured the neutron capture cross-section of natural Sm(n,${\gamma}$) reaction in the energy regions from 0.003 to 10 eV. The 46-MeV electron linear accelerator of Research Reactor Institute, Kyoto University was used for generating a continuous neutron source. The neutron time-of-flight method was adopted for energy measurement. An assembly of BGO($Bi_4Ge_3O_{12}$) scintillators composed of 12 pieces of BGO crystals measured prompt gamma rays from Sm(n,${\gamma}$) reaction. The BGO assembly was located at a distance of $12.7{\pm}0.02m$ from the neutron source. In order to determine the neutron flux impinging on the Sm, the $^{10}B(n,{\alpha}{\gamma})^7Li$ standard cross-section were used. Natural Sm(n,${\gamma}$) reaction measurement result of the neutron capture cross-section was compared with the results of evaluation of the BROND-2.2 and the previous experimental data of J. C. Chou and V. N. Kononov.

  • Cooperative spectrum sensing is proposed to overcome some problem such as multipath fading and shadowing and to improve spectrum sensing performance. There are different combining methods for cooperative spectrum sensing: hard decision method and soft decision method. In this paper, we analysis the performance of cooperative spectrum sensing with distance based weight that is kind of a soft decision rule for cognitive radio(CR) systems and CR systems sense the spectrum of the licensed user by using a energy detection method. Threshold is determined in accordance with the constant false alarm rate(CFAR) algorithm for energy detection. The signal of licensed user is OFDM signal and the wireless channel between a licensed user and CR systems is modeled as Gaussian channel. From the simulation results, the cooperative spectrum sensing with distance based weight combining(DWC) and equal gain combing(EGC) methods shows higher spectrum sensing performance than single spectrum sensing does. And the detection probability performance with the DWC is higher than that with the EGC.

  • We have tested a combined CT/SPECT system with a single CZT detector for x-ray and gamma-ray medical imaging. The size of detector is 10$\times$10$\times$5 ㎣, and the anodes are pixellated as a 4$\times$4 array with a pixel dimension of $1.5\times$1.5 $\textrm{mm}^2$. The cathode was coated with a continuous Au-plated. We have characterized the system performance by scanning a radiographic resolution phantom and the Hoffman Brain phantom. Pulse counting electronics with very short shaping time (50 ㎱) are used to satisfy high photon rates in x-ray imaging, and response linearity up to 3$\times$10$^{5}$ counts per second per detector element is achieved. Energy resolution of 10.4% and 5.3% FWHM at Tc-99m 140 keV peak are obtained for the 50 ㎱ and 2 $mutextrm{s}$ shaping times, respectively. The spatial resolutions of CT and SPECT are about 1mm and 9mm, respectively. Photopeak efficiency of detector systems are 41.0% for 50㎱ and 72.5% for 2 $mutextrm{s}$ shaping time.
