The Breach and Distance between Language and Experience (언어와 경험: 괴리와 거리)

  • The main purpose of this paper is to show how the notion of the language-experience correspondence is ill-grounded, and that the notion of 'literal meaning' based on it accordingly goes nowhere. Drawing on the experientialist view, I observed that language itself is a system of signs, and thus is given meaning only by way of symbolization. According to the experientialist account, the meaning of a signifier is given by means of "symbolic mapping." in which a certain portion of experience-content is mapped onto the signifier. And since symbolic mapping is partial by nature, there must come in some breach between the signifier and the experience-content mapped onto it. The partial nature of symbolic mapping repudiates the very notion of correspondence, and accordingly the notion of literal meaning. Rather, meanings are produced by means of the varied distances between the signifier and the mapped experience. In this perspective, the inquiry into the nature and structure of meaning should become part of one into that of symbolic experience. Such an inquiry may not be expected to reach the objectivity of linguistic meaning. Instead, we may be content with the relative stability in communication, which seems to be grounded in the commonality conspicuously observed at the bodily level of human experience.

A Characteristic of Emotional Word According to Experience Using and Preference of Product (제품 사용 경험과 선호도에 따른 감성어휘의 표현 특성)

  • This study intended to grasp image association on human's product and cognition response characteristic, and analyze their correlation with product preference. For this, photos of mobile phones and proposal-type products were selected for experiment stimuli, and an experiment expressing associated word and an experiment evaluating preference of each product's photo were made. With the experiments, two results were derived. First, in linguistic cognition response on product with use experience, application of emotional expression increased as the level of preference increased by mixing expressions of metaphor languages and emotional image. Second, non-use experience of product induces response corresponding to understanding on the object of cognition only perceptually and considering similarities with general experience information.

  • 의사소통에서 대화자 간 감정의 이해는 메시지의 내용만큼이나 중요하다. 비언어적 요소에 의해 감정에 관한 더 많은 정보가 전달되고 있기는 하지만, 텍스트에도 화자의 감정을 나타내는 언어적 표지가 다양하고 풍부하게 녹아 들어 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 인간언어공학에 활용할 수 있는 감정 온톨로지를 설계하는 데 있다. 텍스트 기반 감정 처리 분야의 선행 연구가 감정을 분류하고, 각 감정의 서술적 어휘 목록을 작성하고, 이를 텍스트에서 검색함으로써, 추출된 감정의 정확도가 높지 않았다. 이에 비해, 본 연구에서 제안하는 감정 온톨로지는 다음과 같은 장점을 갖는다. 첫째, 감정 표현의 범주를 기술 대상(언어적 vs. 비언어적)과 방식(표현적, 서술적, 도상적)으로 분류하고, 이질적 특성을 갖는 6개 범주 간 상호 대응관계를 설정함으로써, 멀티모달 환경에 적용할 수 있다. 둘째, 세분화된 감정을 분류할 수 있되, 감정 간 차별성을 가질 수 있도록 24개의 감정 명세를 선별하고, 더 섬세하게 감정을 분류할 수 있는 속성으로 강도와 극성을 설정하였다. 셋째, 텍스트에 나타난 감정 표현을 명시적으로 구분할 수 있도록, 경험자 기술 대상과 방식 언어적 자질에 관한 속성을 도입하였다. 이때 본 연구에서 제안하는 감정 온톨로지가 한국어 처리에 국한되지 않고, 다국어 처리에 활용할 수 있도록 확장성을 고려했다.

The Effect of Violence Experience on Depression in General Hospital Female Nurses (종합병원 여성간호사의 폭력경험이 우울에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to understand the violence experiences of female nurses in general hospitals and to investigate the influence of violence experiences on depression. The research subjects were 2,714 female nurses in five general hospitals in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. As a results, female nurses in general hospitals suffered from verbal, physical and sexual violences in descending order while working. Age, marital status, work type, experiences of verbal violence and sexual violence had the influence on depression. Sexual violence experiences influenced on depression the most. Based on the results of the study, it is proposed that subsequent studies are necessary to provide more practical solution; quantitative researches investigating violence in depth, and qualitative researches identifying differences in violence and response to violence in workplace by profession.

  • This paper deals with the question whether the metaphysical dialetheism is a persuasive view or not. That is, the purpose of this paper is to criticize the metaphysical dialetheism by answering three questions, whether the dialetheism is compatible with the correspondence theory of truth, whether there is an observable contradiction, finally what the status of LNC is. In conclusion, it is argued that dialetheism is incompatible with the correspondence theory of truth, because it results in trivialism to suppose that two views are compatible. It is also claimed that LNC should be understood as the principle of exclusion which constrains the structure of the world and that the real world is consistent. Therefore, there is no observable contradiction in the world and the metaphysical dialetheism is not persuasive.

  • In this study, the current status of foreigners living in the country was examined and the problems and demands regarding the occurrence of disasters from various nationalities who are actually living in the country were investigated. The result showed that it would be necessary to secure various channels for them to receive information regarding the disaster and safety service and provide information they want continuously with great interest. Also, it would be necessary to prepare institutional measures to solve the language barrier and difficulties in the way of reporting at the national level.

  • 한국과 일본은 사회문화적 환경이 지구상에서 가장 유사하며, 근접한 국가이다. 특히, 두나라는 공통적으로 고령화의 진전속도가 매우 급속히 이루어졌으며, 국가적으로도 유사한 형태로 진행되어 왔다. 본 연구는 시대적 요청에 의해 인접한 두 국가의 다양한 고령기 대책을 마련하기 위한 전략모색과 초고령 한국사회에 대비하여 노인문제를 앞서 경험한 일본의 시사점을 통하여 대응방안의 기초를 마련하고자 한다. 본 연구는 한국과 일본 두 국가에서 각각 노인복지관, 시니어클럽, 고령자봉사센터 등을 통하여 양국가의 언어로 번역된 설문지조사로 실시되었다. 본 연구를 토대로 고령사회는<얼마나 오래사느냐>가 아니라, <어떻게 잘 사느냐>에 초점을 두고, 인간의 행복과 존엄의 가치에 입각하여 미래사회의 성장잠재력, 세대간의 조화, 성공적 노화적응에 준비하고자 한다.

A study on the direction of Service Strategy according to the change of Mobility Paradigm -focused on the Korean Millennials (모빌리티 패러다임 변화에 따른 서비스 전략 방향성 연구 -한국 밀레니얼 세대를 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study is to observe the meaning of the movement recognized by the millennials to derive the direction of the future mobility service strategy according to the change in the mobility paradigm. To do this, the concept of mobility was understood and related cases were analyzed. The characteristics of the millennials were theoretically summarized, and an in-depth interviews were carried out with 25 Korean millennials to analyze the emotion. As a result, it was observed that mobility is not just a movement, but a movement with a pleasant experience for them, and its meaning is being extending as an experiencing good that satisfied emotions, which makes life luxurious. To establish a mobility service strategy that satisfies them First, it is necessary to make an effort to curate a mobility life suited to different emotions. Second, a strategy is required to show the language and image with emotion as a service. Third, it is necessary to play the role of an expert leading the future mobility life to be realized through connection with various fields. We expect that this study will be used as fundamental data for establishing a future mobility service strategy.

Component Analysis for Constructing an Emotion Ontology (감정 온톨로지의 구축을 위한 구성요소 분석)

  • Understanding dialogue participant's emotion is important as well as decoding the explicit message in human communication. It is well known that non-verbal elements are more suitable for conveying speaker's emotions than verbal elements. Written texts, however, contain a variety of linguistic units that express emotions. This study aims at analyzing components for constructing an emotion ontology, that provides us with numerous applications in Human Language Technology. A majority of the previous work in text-based emotion processing focused on the classification of emotions, the construction of a dictionary describing emotion, and the retrieval of those lexica in texts through keyword spotting and/or syntactic parsing techniques. The retrieved or computed emotions based on that process did not show good results in terms of accuracy. Thus, more sophisticate components analysis is proposed and the linguistic factors are introduced in this study. (1) 5 linguistic types of emotion expressions are differentiated in terms of target (verbal/non-verbal) and the method (expressive/descriptive/iconic). The correlations among them as well as their correlation with the non-verbal expressive type are also determined. This characteristic is expected to guarantees more adaptability to our ontology in multi-modal environments. (2) As emotion-related components, this study proposes 24 emotion types, the 5-scale intensity (-2~+2), and the 3-scale polarity (positive/negative/neutral) which can describe a variety of emotions in more detail and in standardized way. (3) We introduce verbal expression-related components, such as 'experiencer', 'description target', 'description method' and 'linguistic features', which can classify and tag appropriately verbal expressions of emotions. (4) Adopting the linguistic tag sets proposed by ISO and TEI and providing the mapping table between our classification of emotions and Plutchik's, our ontology can be easily employed for multilingual processing.

Examination of a Voice Interaction Model for Smart TV through Conversation Patterns (대화 패턴 연구를 통한 스마트TV 음성 상호작용 모델의 탐구)

  • As new smart devices are evolved into the intelligent agent who can reflect user intention and use context, user experience design for easy and convenient usability becomes a core competitive edge. Under the assumption that human centered natural interaction is necessary for the optimal smart TV experience, this study explores the types of voice interaction which are peculiar to TV watching context. In order to build a model for the users to naturally interact with Smart TV, conversation patterns were collected by requesting key features of Smart TV to intelligent agent. Collected sentences were applied to CfA model and classified by responses to activate features. The classified conversation patterns were divided into feature activation and information search. This study has identified that CfC1 occurred when voice interaction between Smart TV and users was vague and CfC2 occurred when the requests were complex or conditional. In conclusion, Simple Request Type is the most efficient model and voice interaction is more appropriate to use to clarify users' vague requests.
