  • The control and reduction of the magnetization of naval vessel is important technologies for safety against torpedo and sea mine installed magnetic sensors. In general, we used to conduct as a magnetic treatment for permanent magnetization reduction and to compensate induced magnetization using on-board-degaussing system for the naval vessel's magnetic stealth. Navies have operated magnetic treatment facility in order to protect from sea mines. LIGNex1 Corp. has developed the magnetic treatment facility for the korea navy.

  • A simulation for the analysis of the evasive capability of a conventional costal submarine against a light Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) torpedo has been studied. The Torpedo, Submarine Controller, Devoy, and Jammer models of this simulation are analysised and designed using Unified Modeling Language (UML) and in addition they are modeled Discrete Event System Specification (DEVS). We examine maximum speed, acceleration, countermeasure systems capabilities of a submarine, and sonar range of a torpedo as the factors which affect the evasive capability of the submarine. This paper shows the relationships between those various factors and the submarine's evasive capability as the outcome of the simulation. The simulation models can be applied for simulation based acquisition (SBA) of a submarine system.

  • This paper proposes robust ship wake search method in the target evasion environment. Moving surface ships generate a long trailing wake in the rear of a surface ship. Wake homing torpedo sensing this wake can detect the surface target and engage it automatically. In wake homing torpedo, wake search method is important element to maximize effectiveness of wake homing torpedo. This paper proposes one-side, two-side and centering mode according to passing wake boundary scenarios. Also, wake deflection angle is deduced by using the principle of deflection angle of acoustic torpedo. The representative experimental results using monte-carlo simulation demonstrate that the searching method using one-side mode is superior to two-side and centering mode in the target evasion environment.

  • The effects of sizes and densities of cells cultured, conditioned medium, and media pH on the somatic embryogenesis of carrot (Daucus carota L.) were examined. A large number of globular embryoids was formed after 4 days in cell culture, and later globular embryoids developed into heart and torpedo shape. High cell density resulted in higher number and better growth of embryos, especially on conditioned medium than Murashige-Skoog medium. The fresh weight and number of embryoids formed increased with the decrease in cell size. The significant reduction in fresh weight and number of embryoids was obtained when culturing cells with diameter of over 90 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. Dry weight and number of embryoids were markedly reduced with medium pH of 4 or 7, but promoted with pH 6.0.

  • Recently underwater systems moving at hyper-speed such as a super-cavitating torpedo have been studied for their practical advantage of the dramatic drag reduction. In this study we are focusing our attention on super-cavitating flows around axisymmetric cavitators. A numerical method based on inviscid flow is developed and the results for several shapes of the cavitator are presented. First using a potential based boundary element method, we find the shape of the cavitator yielding a sufficiently large enough cavity to surround the body. Second, numerical predictions of super-cavity are validated by comparing with experimental observations carried out in a high speed cavitation tunnel at Chungnam National University (CNU CT).

  • The noise characteristics of the submarines and vessels are composed of tonal signals and background noises. Tonal signals are from the revolution of the motors or engines, and background noises are from the generation and disappearing of the bubbles around the vessels. We analyze the noises from maneuvering underwater vessels with ATW algorithm. We design broadband asymptotic noise generator using Hilbert transform and design the system which can generate asymptotic noise with sum of generated background noise and synthesized tonal signals. This system can be used as a cheating system from the torpedo shacks.

  • Immature zygotic embryos from immature seeds of Wasabia japonica (cv Dalma) were isolated and cultured on modified MS medium supplemented with 2,4-D, IAA, and BA. Immature zygotic embryos were classified into torpedo shape and cotyledon stage. The highest rates of callus formation were obtained of 1.0mg/L IAA(torpedo stage, 90.0%)and 1.0mg/L 2,4D plus 0.1mg/L BA(cotyledany stage,84.3%). Somatic embryos after 60 days of culture. These numerous somatic embryo could be seperated and subcultured on the same media for further propagation. After 90 days of culture, most somatic embryos were developed well organized embryos which were able to produce into whole plants.

  • This paper presents multi-fidelity modeling and simulation (M&S) methodology to enhance simulation performance of engineering-level defense models. In this approach, a set of models with varying degrees of fidelity is exercised to reduce computational expense maintaining a similar level of system effectiveness. For multi-fidelity M&S principles, this paper defines model fidelity from two perspectives (i.e., model behavior and execution), and suggests the Fidelity Change Point (FCP) to specify the fidelity conversion. With these concepts, this paper centers on three ideas: 1) two models' structure which are the Behavioral-Fidelity Interchangeable Model (B-FIM) and the Executional-Fidelity Interchangeable Model (E-FIM), 2) modeling formalism, and 3) a simulation algorithm to support them. From an abstract case study regarding a target tracking scenario with the utilization of the proposed method, we can gain interesting experimental results regarding the enhancement of simulation performance. Finally, we expect that this work will serve various M&S-based analysis areas for enhancing simulation performance.

  • Somatic embryo induction, plant regeneration, and field establishment were investigated from tissue cultured winter buds of a 10-year-old tree Aralia elata. Embryogenic calli were obtained from cultures of winter buds on MS medium supplemented with 2,4-D. A number of somatic embryos were regenerated from the calli on an embryo induction medium supplemented with 2,4-D and BA. Although abnormal somatic embryos were frequently observed, most of the embryos formed were morphologically normal. All somatic embryos at the later stage of maturity germinated successfully, but only 14% of them could be developed into plantlets on MS basal medium. The plants regenerated from the somatic embryos survived well in the field (survival rates : more than 95%) and have grown normally for three years after transplanting.

  • Embryogenic calli were induced from petioles of Aralia elata on MS solid medium supplemented with 1.0 mg/L 2,4-D. When embryogenic calli were transferred to MS liquid medium supplemented with 1.0 mg/L 2,4-D, embryogenic cells and embryogenic cell clusters were developed after 2 weeks of culture. Embryogenic cells were filtered through a 250 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ sieve and the passed cells were proliferated and maintained in MS liquid medium supplemented with 1.0 mg/L 2,4-D. Embryogenic cell clusters entrapped on the sieve were transferred to 1/2 MS liquid medium without plant growth regulators, globular-shaped embryos were developed from embryogenic cell clusters after 2 weeks of culture. Numerous early stage somatic embryos could be developed to heart-shaped, torpedo-shaped, cotyledonary embryos and plantlets in 5 L bioreactor. Above results suggest that effective somatic embryo proliferation can be achieved via bioreactor culture systems in Aralia elata.
