  • This study developed a gesture recognition method using Kinect sensor and proposed a fighting action control interface. To extract the pattern features of a gesture, it used a method of extracting them in consideration of a body rate based on the shoulders, rather than of absolute positions. Although the same gesture is made, the positional coordinates of each joint caught by Kinect sensor can be different depending on a length and direction of the arm. Therefore, this study applied principal component analysis in order for gesture modeling and analysis. The method helps to reduce the effects of data errors and bring about dimensional contraction effect. In addition, this study proposed a modified matching algorithm to reduce motion restrictions of gesture recognition system.

Changes in Serratus Anterior Muscle Activity According to Sling Angle in Participants with Shoulder Instability (어깨 불안정성환자에게 각도에 따른 슬링 운동이 앞톱니근의 근 활성도 변화)

  • Background: The serratus anterior and upper trapezius muscles act synergistically to allow for an appropriate scapulothoracic rhythm. However, a decrease in serratus anterior activation causes the upper trapezius to become overactivated, resulting in dysfunction. This study compared serratus anterior and upper trapezius muscle activity according to sling angle and compared serratus anterior strength between healthy adults and patients with shoulder instability. Methods: Twenty participants (10 healthy adults and 10 patients with shoulder instability) were included in this study. The participants had their arms extended at sling angles of 30°, 60°, and 90° in reach forward with shoulder flexion using goniometer. Serratus anterior strength was measured three times while the participants were supine. The outcome measures were surface electromyography amplitude of the upper trapezius and serratus anterior and serratus anterior strength. Results: The Wilcoxon signed-rank test indicated that the upper trapezius was significantly different between healthy group and shoulder instability group at a sling angle of 60°, and both the upper trapezius and serratus anterior exhibited significant differences at 90°. Moreover, a significant difference was noted in the muscle strength of the serratus anterior. Conclusion: Our results provide novel and promising clinical evidence that patients with shoulder instability have decreased serratus anterior activation and upper trapezius overactivation, resulting in muscle imbalance.   • Modern fashion manifests in forms that mirror the diverse lifestyles and personalities of consumers. It transcends mere aesthetic designs and embodyies practicality. There is a preference for comfortable, highly functional attire, leaning towards easy wear. Casual wear, in particular, embraces a sense of freedom not found in standard business attire. It seeks a comfortable, natural silhouette through tactile fabrics rather than sportswear. Loose, drop shoulder sleeves enhance comfort and mobility and often become key elements in casual wear designs. Given that clothing must balance aesthetics with functionality, especially across various activities, it is natural to prioritize functional design. Research on patterns suited for dynamic conditions is imperative. The rise of drop shoulder styles necessitates the development of corresponding sleeve patterns. It is crucial to differentiate pattern drafting methods due to the resulting silhouette variations. This study aims to categorize drop shoulder pattern drafting techniques based on shoulder extension and angle dimensions. Each method will be examined, and drop shoulder sleeve patterns and wear forms will be studied using a 3D virtual system. This research holds significance in providing valuable insights and foundational data for designing diverse drop shoulder sleeve patterns, contributing to their practical development and advancement.

The Effects of the Range of Motion of Joint with Vibratory Stimulation of the Patients of Adhesive Capsulitis of the Shoulder (진동적용이 견관절 유착성관절낭염 환자의 관절가동범위에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to prove the increase of range of motion of shoulder joint in the patients with shoulder adhesive capsulitis by applying the vibratory stimulation. In terms of subjects of the study, the experimental group 15(4 male, 11 female)and the control group 15(5 male, 10 female) were divided. The measurement of the shoulder range of motion was taken by measuring the degrees of flexion, abduction, and external rotation with a goniometer from pre treatment to one to four weeks. The results were as follows : In the experimental group and control group, there was the statistical significance in the range of motion of the shoulder flexion, abduction, and external rotation during four weeks. In summary, the vibratory stimulation are effective interventions for improving shoulder adhesive capsulitis, patient's range of motion of shoulder joint.

Analysis of Tactile Effects on the Different Body Parts by the Various Vibration Patterns (다양한 진동 패턴에 따른 신체 부위의 촉감 효과 분석)

  • This paper presents the analysis of tactile effects on different body parts according to the various vibration patterns. The experiments use a vibration pad made of 16 vibration elements in the form of $4{\times}4$ array. The vibration elements are controlled by a 8-bit microprocessor. The sound of gunshot initiates a vibration pattern on different body parts and its sensitivity is measured. The analysis of the experiments lead us to conclude that the vibration pad is the most realistic interface for shooting games and the shoulder part is the most sensitive part in the body. In addition, the most effective vibration pattern is the for the pattern which gives the sensation of spreading out from the center to the outside. This study analyzes the relationship between the human body parts and the tactile sensations by the various vibration patterns. The result of this study will be a good reference for user studies in the field of haptics based on the vibration.

A Study on the Comparative Evaluation of wearing Fitness of Women′s Ready-made Jackets Using 3D Scanner (3D Scanner를 이용한 여성용 기성복 재킷의 착의적합성에 관한 비교평가연구)

  • 본 연구 목적은 3차원 인체 스캐너를 이용하여 여자 기성복 재킷의 여유량을 비교, 분석하는 것으로, 2사이즈 7브랜드의 재킷의 공극량을 계측하여 분석하였다. 첫째, 재킷 단면둘레 분석 결과, B85(품), B8(허리)를 제외하고 브랜드간에 유의한 차이를 나타내지 않아, 전반적으로, 브랜드간 제품치수에는 차이가 없는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 인체와 재킷의 단면둘레 분석 결과, 재킷의 배둘레를 제외한 모든 항목에서 유의한 차이가 나타나 피험자, 재킷 모두 사이즈에 따라 유의적인 차이 가 있음을 알 수 있다. 셋째, 기본사이즈 B85에서는 허리를 제외하고는 패턴 F가 가장 여유량이 많은 것으로 나타났으나, B88의 경우, 부위별로 각기 다른 패턴에서 여유량이 가장 많은 것으로 나타나, 각 부분마다 브랜드별로 그레이딩 룰이 다름을 알 수 있다. 넷째, 착의 단면은 인체와 의복간의 여유량 분포를 명백히 보여주며, 어깨, 가슴, 엉덩이처럼 몸에 밀착되는 부위는 다른 부위에 비해 패턴간, 각도별 변이가 적은 것으로 나타났다. 품, 허리, 배에서는 옆보다는 앞, 뒤로, 가슴에서는 앞뒤 좌우의 30$^{\circ}$방향, 엉덩이의 경우, 옆, 뒤보다는 앞쪽에 여유량이 집중되어 있는 것으로 나타났다. 다섯째, 브랜드별 평균공극길이에 대한 분산분석 결과, 전반적으로 패턴 F가 가장 공극량이 많고, 패턴 D가 작은 것으로 나타났다. 여섯째, 사이즈별 평균공극길이에 대한 t-검정 결과, 품과 배 부분에서, B88이 B85보다 공극량이 적은 것으로 나타나, 기준부위인 가슴, 허리, 엉덩이 부분뿐만 아니라 품, 배둘레의 치수에 대응할 수 있도록 그레이딩 룰 값을 산정하여야 함을 알 수 있다.

  • The pattern locking technique applied to smart phones is a locking technique that many people use conveniently. However, the safety of pattern locking techniques is very low compared with other techniques. The pattern locking technique is vulnerable to a shoulder surfing attack, which is based on the user's input and can be interpreted by looking at the movement of the shoulder, and the smudge attack is also vulnerable due to fingerprint drag marks remaining on the mobile phone pad. Therefore, in this paper, we want to add a new security method to check the pressed time by using a thread in the pattern locking scheme to secure the vulnerability. It is divided into short, middle, and long click according to the pressing time at each point. When dragging using the technique, security performance enhances $3^n$ tiems. Therefore, even if dragging in the same 'ㄱ' manner, it becomes a completely different pattern depending on the pressing time at each point.

Evaluation of Materials Related to Gender-Preferences for the Application of Cooperative Robot Skin (협동 로봇 스킨에 적용하기 위한 재료의 성별 선호도와 관련된 자료 조사)

  • This study evaluated gender preferences regarding the mechanical properties of polymers that are typically used as cooperative robot skin. Gender-based preferences of workers aged 20~30 and polydimethylsiloxane were examined according to the body parts which is most frequently in contact with the robot during operation. The factors influencing preference, i.e., stiffness and stickiness, as measured by strain rate and contact angle, respectively, were analyzed to compare gender-based differences. Female preferred stiffer materials with small strain rates while male preferred softer materials with large strain rates. As a result of evaluating mechanical properties of the materials to relate to gender-based preference, we found that female tended to prefer Dragon-skin with the lowest stickiness, and a low strain rate, during compressive creep tests. In contrast, male tended to prefer Ecoflex with high strain rate regardless of stickiness. Therefore, these results provide basis for material selection when considering cooperative robot skin.

Effects of the Ergonomic Lap Board for Computer Mouse Padding on Upper Limb Movements, Myoelectric Activities, Task Performance, and Subjective Discomfort (인체공학적 랩보드를 이용한 컴퓨터 마우스 사용이 상지의 움직임 및 근활성도, 작업수행도, 주관적 불편도에 미치는 영향)

  • This study aimed to investigate the effect of a lap board that was developed to prevent musculoskeletal disorders caused by the use of a computer mouse. Study participants were 10 college students in their 20s who did not have any musculoskeletal symptoms. We analyzed the difference in upper limb movements, electromyographic activity, task performance, and subjective discomfort between 2 conditions: use of a mouse with the lap board and use of a mouse placed on a desk. Results of behavior analysis showed that there was a significant difference between the 2 conditions in terms of the average angle of shoulder flexion, shoulder internal rotation, and forearm pronation(p< 0.05). However, electromyographic activity, task performance, and subjective discomfort showed no significant differences between the 2 conditions. When subjects used the mouse with the lap board, their upper extremity was located much closer to the torso than when they used the mouse placed on the desk. Six of 10 participating students preferred the lap board. We expect that advanced research on prevention of musculoskeletal disorders due to the use of the computer mouse will be conducted in the near future.

Design of Road Surface Drainage Facilities Based on Varied Flow Analysis (부등류 해석을 기반으로 한 노면배수시설 설계)

  • The design methods of the road surface drainage facilities were compared for the improvement of design method. We have developed four computational design models classified by the methods to determine the duration of design rainfall and to analyze the flow of a linear drainage channel. The critical duration was determined by assuming the critical duration to be 10 minutes or by finding the duration of design storm being similar to the travel time of flow by trial and error. The flow of a linear drainage channel was analyzed as the uniform flow or the varied flow. The design models were applied to the artificial road surface drainage facilities with various channel slopes and road shoulder slopes. If the rainfall intensity of the 10 minutes duration was applied, the outlet spacing obtained from the design based on the varied flow analysis was larger than the uniform flow analysis only when the channel slope and the road shoulder slope was small. On the other hands, if the duration of design rainfall was determined by calculating the travel time, the varied flow analysis brought about larger outlet spacing than the uniform analysis for all conditions. However, the model of the critical duration concept and the varied flow analysis resulted in smaller outlet spacing than the current design method employing the rainfall of 10 minutes duration and the uniform flow analysis.
