Destruction of Spent Organic ion Exchange Resins by Ag(II)-Mediated Electrochemical Oxidation (Ag(II)매개산화에 의한 폐 유기이온교환수지의 분해)

  • A study on the destruction of organic cation and anion exchange resins by electro-generated Ag(II) as a mediator was carried out to develop the ambient-temperature aqueous process, known as Ag(II)-mediated electro-chemical oxidation (MEO) process, for the treatment of a large quantity of spent organic ion exchange resins as the low and Intermediated-level radioactive wastes arising from the operation, maintenance and repairs of nuclear facilities. The effects of controllable process parameters such as applied current density, temperature, and nitric acid concentration on the MEO of organic ion exchange resins were investigated. The cation exchange resin was completely decomposed to $CO_2$. The current efficiency increased with a decrease in applied current density while nitric acid concentration and temperature on the MEO of cation exchange resin did not affect the MEO. On the other hand, anion exchange resins were decomposed to CO and $CO_2$. The ultimate conversion to CO was about $10\%$ regardless of temperature. The destruction efficiencies to $CO_2$ were dependent upon temperature and the effective destruction of anion exchange resin could be obtained above $60^{\circ}C$.

Electrochemical Behavior and Morphology of Anodic Titanium Oxide Films (양극산화에 의한 티타늄 산화피막의 전기화학적 거동과 형상)

  • The galvanostatic anodization of commercially Pure titanium plate (c.p.Ti, grade 2) was investigated in various concentrations of aqueous $H_3PO_4$ from 0.05M to 0.7M. The surfaces of anodic oxide films, formed by the current density in the range between 0.3 and $l.0 A/dm^2$. were analyzed by SEM and XRD. The voltage-time (V-T) curves displayed an initial linear part and a subsequent parabolic part, and the initial slopes increased with an increase in the current density in 0.05M $H_3PO_4$. As the concentration of the electrolyte increased, the V-T corves exhibit no change but the final voltage decreased. The anodic oxide film of titanium developed from fine grains to snowflake-like grains in a layered structure with an increase in the concentration of the electrolyte and current density. Sparking at the interface of the oxide/electrolyte accompanied the local deposition and dissolution of the oxide film through discharging. The crystallinity of the anodic oxide film increased with the anodizing voltage and decreased with an increase in the concentration of the electrolyte.

Ecological Characteristic of Clithon retropictus inhabitating in Yeoncho River in Southern Coastal Area (남해안 연초천에 서식하는 기수갈고둥의 생태적 특성 연구)

  • Clithon retropictus has been designated as an endangered wildlife Class II due to its high value as a biological indicator species capable of judging environmental quality such as salinity, water flow, and ground conditions. However, basic research on its physiological and ecological characteristics is still lacking. As such, this study intended to examine the impact of environmental conditions such as salinity and soil particle size on the size and density of Clithon retropictus at the Yeoncho river estuary. The investigation of the salinity, which is a key variable that affects the distribution of organisms in the estuary, showed that Clithon retropictus could grow at a salinity ranging from 0#x2030; (freshwater) to 25‰ (brackish water). The coarse gravel (19-75mm) tended to increase nearer the upper stream (under the Yeoncho weir), while the proportion of particles smaller than sand (less than 19mm) increased toward the downstream. The population and the size of the individuals decreased rapidly in the downstream where water stagnated near the Yeoncho weir, and the salt water joined. The results indicated that Clithon retropictus had a high tolerance to salinity, but the adaptability was weaker toward the extremes since the population, and the size tended to decrease as the salinity increased. The correlation analysis revealed that both salinity and soil particle size affected the population and individual size. The correlation between the individual size and salinity was -0.242 (P <0.01), indicating that the size decreased with increasing salinity. The correlation between individual size and coarse gravel having a particle size of 19mm or more was 0.420 (P <0.01), indicating that the size increased with increasing the particle size.

A Historical study on the Characteristics of Ramyun in Korea : Focusing on a content analysis of advertisement from 1963 to 2012 (한국 라면의 시대별 특성에 관한 연구 :1963~2012년 광고 내용분석을 중심으로)

  • To research the changes of Ramyun in Korea, this paper was went over an historical study through the content analysis of ads. from 1963 to 2012. The study period was divided into 6 stages based on GNI(Gross National Income). The advertisements were classified into new advertisements and all ones, and the advertisements of new Ramyun were categorized with 4 ways. And the most emphasized messages of advertisements and advertising models of each periods were also examined. The total number of new advertisements was 185(3.7/y) and 650 total advertisements(13.7/year). The most emphasized messages were changed from 'taste' and 'high calorie' to 'noodles', 'function(specific nutrition)'. The advertising models were actors, comedians, popular singers, in turn. The 1960's was the period when the fewest new products were advertised to consumers most often. 1980-1996 was the period when the most new products were advertised the most. During the depresseions, all ads were more frequently and new ads were lower advertised. Above results, each period was named as follow, respectively ; the Expansion period(1963~1969), the Set-up period(1970~1979), the Competition period (1980~1987), the Bipolarization period(1988~1997), the Transition period(1998~2003), the Stabilization period(2004~2012).
