The wing leading edge skin in this research is an essential structural factor for improving wings' aeromechanical functions, protecting the interior elements of the wings from external damage including birds, and navigating planes safely. The study compared and reviewed models manufactured for optimal light-weight wings of composite UAVs. It compared and investigated displacement forms of torsion loads through finite element analysis using MSC. Patran/Nastran. By confirming the improvement of light-weighting performance according to lamination type, thickness change and shape through torsion strength tests of each model, the research suggested the optimal light-weight wing leading edge skin for small composite UAVs.
The important problems that arise in the design and performance of the axial flow turbine are the prediction and control of secondary flows. Some progresses have been made on understanding flow conditions that occur when the inlet endwall boundary layer separates at the point in the endwall and rolls up into the horseshoe vortex. And the flows though an axial turbine tend to be extremely complex due to its inherent unsteady and viscous phenomena. The passing wakes generated from the trailing edge of the stator make an interaction with the rotor. Unsteady flow should be considered rotor/stator interactions. The main purpose of this research is control of secondary flow and improvement efficiency in turbine by leading edge modification in unsteady state. When the wake from the stator ran into the modified leading edge of the rotor, the leading edge generated the weak pressure fluctuation by complex passage flows. In conclusion, leading edge modification(bulb2) results in the reduced total pressure loss in the flow field.

In this paper. firstly, numerical results were compared with experimental results to verify accuracy of the results. It is found that the numerical results show good agreements with experimental result. Next, computations about flow within blades for design parameters such as radius of the pressure and suction side's curvature and pitch-chord ratio have been performed. It is found that the flow and performance characteristics mainly depend on shocks occurred at the leading edge of blades and the end of nozzle and separations occurred inside the flow passage. And shock of nozzle and separations depend upon area of flow passage and shocks of blade are affected by the number of blades occupied by a nozzle.

A small supersonic wind tunnel was designed and built to study the flow characteristics of a supersonic impulse turbine cascade. The supersonic cascade with a 2-dimensional supersonic nozzle was tested for the leading edge chamfer angle $(\gamma)$ of the supersonic turbine that is the one of the turbine design parameter. Firstly, the flow was visualized by a single pass Schlieren system. Next, total and static pressure of the cascade were measured by a pressure scanning system. Finally, highly complicated flow patterns including shocks, nozzle-cascade interaction and shock boundary layer interactions, flow characteristics of the supersonic turbine were observed.

An experimental investigation was conducted on the interaction of vortices over a delta wing with the leading edge extension for three angles of attack($16^{\circ},\; 24^{\circ} \;and\; 28^{\circ}$) at Reynolds number of $1.76{\times}10^6.$ The experimental data included total pressure contours and velocity vectors using 5-hole probe measurements. Constant total pressure coefficient contours show the LEX vortex moves downward and outboard, while the wing vortex exhibited an inboard and upward migration. At near the trailing edge, these vortices reveal a direct interaction between the wing and LEX vortex, featuring a coiling of vortex cores about each other. The combined effect of the interaction of these two vortices and proximity to the wing surface results in the increase of the suction peak. This is in contrast to the result obtained on the delta wing alone configuration, where the effect of the vortex breakdown was manifested. The interaction of the wing and LEX vortices is more pronounced at higher AOA.
An experimental study is conducted to investigate the interaction of vortices over a delta wing with leading edge extension(LEX) through the off-surface flow visualization and the 5-hole probe measurements of the wing wake region. Especially, the application of a new visualization technique is employed by ultrasonic humidifier water droplet and laser beam sheet. The results, both the off-surface visualization and the 5-hole probe, show that LEX tends to stabilize the vortices of the delta wing up to the high angle of attack even though the model is yawed. With increasing yaw, the windward leading edge vortex moves inward, and closer to the wing surface, while the leeward vortex moves outwards and away from the wing surface. The vortex interaction is promoted in the windward side, and is delayed in the leeward side.

In this paper, a small supersonic wind tunnel is designed and built to study the flow characteristics of a supersonic impulse turbine cascade. The flow is visualized by means of a single pass Schlieren system. The supersonic cascade with 2-dimensional supersonic nozzle was tested for various blade leading edge shapes and gaps between the nozzle and cascade. Highly complicated flow patterns including shocks, nozzle-cascade interaction and shock boundary layer interactions are observed.
The outside environment is very severe while aircraft is cruising. Especially small
particle of icing in cold air condition can have negative influence on aircraft
performance. If ice particle is attached to leading edge of wing, it can change wing
configuration and decrease flight quality. If icing particle is attached to inlet of engine,
it can damage compressor blade and have negative influence to aircraft safety. We
make icing simulation device with liquid air system for analyzing about variation of
engine performance due to incoming of icing to engine.

In the present study, the aerodynamic characteristics of elliptic airfoils are investigated numerically based on the RANS equations and the S-A turbulent model on unstructured meshes. Unlike the NACA series airfoil sections, elliptic airfoils have a relatively small leading edge radius and a rounded trailing edge. Also the maximum thickness is located in the middle of the chord. This geometric characteristics are responsible for the difference in the aerodynamic characteristics from those of NACA family airfoils. To identify the aerodynamic characteristics of elliptic airfoils, the results were compared with those of NACA series airfoils with a same maximum thickness. The effect of airfoil thickness variation on the aerodynamic characteristics were also investigated.

Bird-strike is one of the most important design factors for safety in the aviation industry. Bird-strikes have been the cause of significant damage to aircraft and rotorcraft structures and the loss of life. This study used DYTRAN software to simulate the transient response of an Euler-Lagrangian composite helicopter blade that has been impacted by a bird. The Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian (ALE) method and a suitable equation of state were applied to model the bird. ALE was applied to the bird-strike analysis due to the large difference between the properties of the blade and bird. The debris of the bird was assumed to be a fluid and applied as Euler elements after the collision. Through the analysis of bird impacts, the leading-edge of the rotor blade (50.8 mm) was used to identify a positive margin of 1.18 based on the TSAI-FILL criteria. The results are assessed to be sufficiently reliable and may be evaluated to replace tests with various analysis conditions. The structural stability of the rotor blade could be assessed by applying various load conditions and different modeling methods in the future.
