  • The government have been tightening EM regulation gradually but the effect is not good because of rapid increase of vehicles. And medium & heavy duty diesel vehicles, even though the number is small, exhaust very large pollutants(about over 50%). Especially it is more severe about old trucks and buses. Accordingly, CNG vehicle and the retrofit of diesel to CNG must be an alternative in order to protect the atmospheric environment and improve the air quality in the metropolitan area. The main object of this study is to secure the retrofit technology of diesel to CNG vehicle and the management system of CNG engine. we passed the government emission certification test. In addition to this, the mass production for retrofit is also studied. Results of emission and durability test for certification are as follows; there was no problem during 30,000km vehicle durability test and good emission levels satisfying the regulation.

디젤기관에서 CNG혼소에 의한 배출가스 저감에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on the Emission Reduction of Duel-Fuel Engine by CNG)

  • CNG dual fuel engine for heavy duty diesel engine has been equipped to a Korean bus engine and tested to compare th engine performance and the emission characteristics with the existing diesel fueled engine. The results are summarized as follows. Diesel fueled engine has the fuel injection timing of BTDC17°. The injection timing of CNG modified engine is retarded to BTDC14° for reduction of NOx. Performance optimization has been carried out to have engine power equivalent to or better than the diesel fueled engine. Smoke is decreased by 85% by Korean smoke 3 mode test. By 6 mode test CO is increased by 313% and THC is increased by 1407%. NOx is decreased by 27%. Even though THC is increased very much, it's not too serious problem since CO and THC emission of diesel engine are very little compared to gasoline engine and THC don't give bad effect on human health. But the reduction technologies of CO and THC need to be considered.

  • To reduce the particulate matter and nitrogen oxides from diesel engine, many studies are proceeding and being accomplished practically. In this situation CNG engine has important meaning both as a clean fuel and an alternative energy. In order to present the direction and application of CNG, we simulated various operating conditions, that is, spark timing, compression ratio and fuel composition etc. Thus we try to understand how those affect performance and exhaust characteristics. The simulation program results found that the optimum combustion start angle was 21$^{\circ}$ at 1800rpm and fuel composition affects performance and emissions, also we could understand the formation of emission as crank angle is changed.

  • This paper deals with a study on combustion and emission characteristics of a direct injection diesel engine dual fueled with natural gas. Dual fuelling systems tend to emit high unburned fuel especially at low load, resulting in a decreased thermal efficiency. This is because natural gas-air mixtures are too lean for flame to propagate under low load conditions. Suction air quantity and injection timing controls are very useful to improve emissions and thermal efficiency at low load.

  • The purpose of this study is to analysis of how to calculate fuel efficiency in major development countries (U.S. and Europe) and energy consumption formular derivation of domestic CNG fuel and prove by vehicle test. The formula of fuel consumption is different in mpg(mile per gallon), l/100km, and km/l each countries. CNG fuel has a significant impact on fuel density, composition, and Hydro-Carbon ratio. So, this study how to measurement and calculation procedures of CNG gaseous fueled vehicle energy consumption rate.

CNG/LPG Bi-fuel 승용차의 배출가스 특성 (Exhaust Emissions Characteristics of Bi-fuel CNG/LPG Passenger Cars)

  • Compressed natural gas (CNG) is well known as one of the cleanest burning alternative fuels. Bi-fuel CNG vehicle can also run on gasoline or another fuel while dedicated natural gas vehicle is designed to run on natural gas only. Recently, increased attention has been focused on bi-fuel CNG/LPG taxi because of good fuel economy of CNG. A number of LPG taxis modified to CNG Bi-fuel vehicles are running in many cities. In this paper, the emissions characteristics of in-use passenger cars running on CNG and LPG were investigated. Chassis dynamometer test was used to measure exhaust emissions from an in-use fleet of 5 cars. Exhaust emissions were collected for CVS-75 driving mode. The test results showed that for CNG fuel mode, CO, $CO_2$ and NMHC emissions decreased to 9%, 12% and 14% respectively, and $CH_4$ and $NO_x$ emissions increased to 317% and 47% respectively.

  • CNG(Compressed Natural Gas)충전소의 주요 핵심설비는 압축기이며, 대부분의 압축기는 윤활이 필요하다. CNG압축기의 윤활유(oil)는 충전 중에 압력 레귤레이터, 엔진 연료공급시스템 등에 전이(Carry-over)되어 천연가스차량의 성능에 부정적인 영향을 미친다. 따라서 이러한 문제를 사전에 방지하기 위해서는 전이되는 오일의 양을 정량적으로 측정하여 공급되는 압축천연가스의 품질관리를 강화하는 것이 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 CNG오일전이를 측정하기 위해 중량법(Gravimetric method)을 사용한 샘플링 튜브 및 샘플링 장비를 개발하였다. 또한, CNG 충전소 6개소를 대상으로 CNG를 채취하였으며, 오일전이를 정량적으로 분석하였다. 측정된 전체 오일전이양은 2.569에서 6.509ppm 이었으며, 측정된 결과를 선행연구 결과와 비교 검증하였다.

  • 자동차 배기가스 규제가 강화됨에 따라 천연가스에 수소를 첨가하는 수소-천연가스 혼합연료(HCNG)를 기존의 압축천연가스(CNG) 엔진에 적용하려는 많은 연구들이 진행되고 있다. 그러나 수소의 높은 연소 속도로 인한 역화, 조기착화, 노킹(knocking) 등의 이상연소 발생 가능성은 엔진의 가열 또는 열효율 및 출력의 저하를 야기하는 문제점이 발생할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 CNG 연료에 수소를 일정 부분 혼합한 HCNG 연료를 기존의 CNG 엔진에 적용하여 희박연소 한계 확장을 통해 연소 성능 개선을 확인하고, CNG와 HCNG 연료의 노킹 특성을 파악하고자 하였다. 공기과잉율의 변화에 따른 노킹 발생 조건을 관찰함으로써 HCNG 연료의 적용성 및 노킹마진을 평가하고자 하였다. HCNG 연료 사용 시 최적운전조건에서 노킹 문제없이 엔진을 운전할 수 있었으나 노킹이 일어날 수 있는 가능성이 높아져 이에 대한 대비가 필요할 것으로 판단된다.

  • A CNG/diesel dual-fuel engine uses CNG as the main fuel and injects a small amount of diesel as an ignition priming. This study proposed the modification of the existing diesel engine into a dual-fuel engine that injects diesel with a high pressure by common rail direct injection (CRDI) and by injecting CNG at the intake port for premixing. And experiment was progressed for understanding about effect of CNG mixing ratio. The CNG/diesel dual-fuel engine showed equally satisfactory coordinate torque and power regardless of CNG mixing ratio. The PM emission was low at any CNG mixing ratio because of very small diesel pilot injection. In case of NOx and HC, high CNG mixing ratio showed low NOx and HC emissions at low speed. At medium & high speed, low CNG mixing ratio showed low NOx and HC emissions. Therefore, it would be optimized by controlling CNG mixing ratio.

압축천연가스자동차용 Type III 용기의 복합재 결함 평가 (Assessment of Composite Material Flaws on the Type III Cylinders for Compressed Natural Gas Vehicles)

  • 이 연구는 압축천연가스자동차용 Type III 용기 복합재에 발생한 스크래치, 컷, 가우지 등의 손상을 평가하여 계속 사용여부를 판정하기 위해 수행하였다. 결함내구성 시험결과, 복합재의 손상등급에 따라 ISO 19078에서 정한 최소요구 반복회수(11,250회)는 모두 만족하였고 용기의 반복성능은 손상등급 1, 2에서는 20,000회를 상회하다가 손상등급 3에서는 18,000~21,000회의 범위를 나타내었다. 실험용기 12개 중 8개가 Type III 용기복합재 결함의 영향을 받아 파괴되었고 나머지는 결함과 관계없이 파괴된 것으로 판단된다. 전산모사에 의한 구조해석결과는 $1.25\;mm{\times}200\;mm$의 결함모델에 사용압이 가해졌을 때 발생한 응력은 79.5 MPa이고 무결함 용기의 라이너 평탄부에 발생한 응력은 66.6 MPa로서 약 19.37%의 차이가 발생하였다. 이것은 라이너의 피로수명에 영향을 미칠 수 있는 차이로 볼 수 있고 이 결함은 용기의 반복성능에 영향을 미치는 임계값으로 판단할 수 있었다.
