  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of taping on knee joint for patellofemoral compressive force (PCF) during stair descent for elderly women. Ten healthy elderly women voluntarily participated in this study. A three-dimensional motion analysis system and force plates were used to analyze the movements of the joints for the lower extremities. The results were as follows: There were no significant differences for the maximum PCF, maximum quadriceps contraction force and maximum knee extension moment (p>.05) but, there was a pattern decreasing all values with the taping during stair descent. There were significant differences for the knee and ankle angle on the event of maximum PCF (p<.05) and there was a pattern decreasing all values with the taping during stair descent. Therefore, taping on the knee would be effective to relieve the pain like patellofemoral pain syndrome in the knee joint.

  • Purpose : We report a result of arthroscopic resection after inner-wall staining for treatment of prepatellar bursitis which was not treated conservatively. Materials and Methods : Between January 1996 and October 1998, We treated arthroscopically 11 patients with prepatellar bursitis. Arthroscopic resection was performed with shaver after inner-wall staining using Methylene Blue and then placed continuous suction drainage and compressive dressing. Results : All patients had no tender scars and were able to walk immediately after procedure. We found one case of late infection during follow-up. Conclusion : Arthroscopic bursectomy minimizes the complication of open bursectomy such as pain or large scar. Skin perforation would be prevented by inner-wall staining.

  • One of the treatments and preventions of strokes such as ischemic stroke is to increase cerebral blood flow. This aims to minimize the size of the stroke by increasing the quantity of blood to the cerebral region circuitously. Several ways to increase cerebral blood flow are a therapy though drugs and through surgery. However these invasive method giving a burden to the patient, the problem of inducing a number of complications were noted. In this thesis, we propose a non-invasive cerebral blood flow augmentation device to compensate for the disadvantages of these invasive treatments. To compensate for the shortcomings of the existing cerebral blood flow device, apply a positive measure of the patient's extremities to measure the blood pressure of the patient's blood pressure and conduct a frontal injection of blood flow to increase blood flow. Although somewhat inadequate blood flow increases compared to conventional devices, blood flow can be significantly increased, which can be selectively.

  • Background: Low back pain (LBP) is a representative disease, and LBP is characterized by muscle dysfunction that provides stability to the lumbar spine. This causes physical functional problems such as decreased posture control ability by reducing the muscular endurance and balance of the lumbar spine. Pelvic compression using instruments, which has been used during recent stabilization exercises, focuses on the anterior superior iliac spine of the pelvis and puts pressure on the sacroiliac joint during exercise, making the pelvis more symmetrical and stable. Currently, research has been actively conducted on the use of pelvic compression belts and non-elastic pelvic belts; however, few studies have conducted research on the application effect of pelvic compression using instruments. Objects: This study aimed to investigate whether there is a difference in trunk muscular endurance and dynamic and static balance ability levels by applying pelvic stabilization through a pelvic compression device between the LBP group and the non-LBP group. Methods: Thirty-nine subjects currently enrolled in Daejeon University were divided into 20 subjects with LBP group and 19 subjects without LBP (NLBP group), and the groups were compared with and without pelvic compression. The trunk muscular endurance test was performed with 4 movements, the dynamic balance test was performed using a Y-balance test, and the static balance test was performed using a Wii balance board. Results: There was a significant difference the LBP group and the NLBP group after pelvic compression was applied to all tests (p < 0.05). In the static and dynamic balance ability test after pelvic compression was applied, there was a significant difference in the LBP group than in the NLBP group (p < 0.05). Conclusion: These results show that pelvic compression using instruments has a positive effect on both those with and without LBP and that it has a greater impact on balance ability when applied to those with LBP.

  • Tuberculous spondylitis is the most common manifestation of musculoskeletal tuberculosis (TB). The progression of the disease is usually slow and insidious. The main symptom, back pain, is not specific, which frequently results in a delayed diagnosis resulting in neurologic deficits and more advanced vertebral destruction. It is more difficult to diagnose the disease if the involved area is an uncommon sites, such as the upper thoracic, cervical or sacral region. It is important to make an early diagnosis and treatment to achieve a better treatment outcome. We reported a 29 year old female with upper thoracic TB spondylitis(T2-8) and pulmonary TB complaining of back pain that persisted for 5 months and fever. TB spondylitis was not suspected to be due to upper thoracic involvement despite her pulmonary tuberculosis. Chest CT for the evaluation of pulmonary TB found T5 destruction and the paravertebral abscess that was consistent with TB spondylitis. Her spine was examined by MRI, which made an early diagnosis before the neurologic deficit had developed. She was treated with surgical intervention due to the spinal instability and anti-TB medication for 1 year with excellent results.

  • This study used latent profile analysis to identify heterogeneous subgroups with respect to the perception of work environment among workers in residential facilities for people with disabilities. The final model yielded five latent profiles of the perception of work environment: 'low workload group' who scored low in time pressure and job responsibility, 'discrimination perception group' who scored low in supervisor support and high in sex and academic/regional discriminations, 'positive perception group' who scored high in work autonomy and peer and supervisor supports, 'high workload group' who scored high in workload, time pressure, and job responsibility, and 'average group' who scored average in most areas. In the case of job satisfaction, positive perception group was the highest, followed by average group, low and high workload groups, and discrimination perception group.

  • Neoadjuvant concurrent chemoradiotherapy has been increasingly used to obtain secondary resectability for locally advanced pancreatic cancers. Although most patients require biliary decompression, only a few studies have investigated the safety of biliary stenting with chemoradiotherapy. Herein, we report a rare case of delayed hemorrhage of the hepatic artery caused by biliary stenting after chemoradiotherapy. The serial follow-up CT demonstrated that the biliary stent was approaching the right hepatic artery and eventually caused acute angulation and indentation. Diagnostic catheter angiography revealed contrast extravasation at the right hepatic artery, and endovascular embolization was performed. This report highlights the relevance of anatomical deformation after chemoradiotherapy, which can result in fatal complications. Indentation of the hepatic artery caused by biliary stents should be recognized as a warning sign of vascular injury.

  • Subclavian artery aneurysms are quite rare and they are known to be as only 1% of all peripheral aneurysms. Atherosclerotic disease is the most common cause of subclavian artery aneurysms. These aneurysms can cause rupture, thrombosis, embolisms or symptoms by local compression. Surgical operations are generally performed as treatment. We report here on a case of successful surgical treatment for a right proximal subcalvian artery aneurysm, and the surgery was peformed via the medical exclusion method.
