Analysis on Shock Attenuation of STS Bulkhead Initiator (STS 격벽착화기의 충격파 감쇠 특성 해석)

  • Two-dimensional hydrodynamic analysis was performed to analyze the attenuating characteristics of shock waves generated by the detonation of the bulkhead initiator. Through the interlocking analysis between HNS and HMX stacking initiator and STS bulkhead, we have precisely simulated detonation growth and pressure wave attenuation phenomena. The free surface velocity at the surface of the bulkhead was measured for quantitative comparison with the test data by VISAR. As a result, it was confirmed that the pressure attenuating pattern of the shock wave exponentially decreased according to the bulkhead thickness. The observed inflection point at the particle velocity measured over time is due to the subsequent propagation of the shock wave due to the rapid spallation of the interface between the detonator and the bulkhead.

  • The pulse gun device is designed to identify the transverse pressure wave propagation/damping mechanism into the combustion flow field and in the combustion chamber according to the arrangement of multiple injectors. The manufactured pulse gun was tested to verify operability at the target combustion pressure and control of the pressure wave intensity. Gas nitrogen was used to pressurize the high-pressure tube and an OHP film of $100{\mu}m$ thickness was used for the diaphragm. To check the speed and intensity of the pressure waves, the dynamic and static pressure were measured using the pressure transducer. The performance test confirmed that the manufactured pulse gun can generate pressure waves with transverse characteristics that can be controled for strength depending on the supply pressure.

  • Past few years have seen the growing importance of micro shock tubes in various engineering applications. A pharma ballistic technique is one such application which uses micro shock tube to accelerate drug particles and penetrate into skin, thus avoiding the usual injection drug delivery system. But for the efficient design of such instruments requires the detailed knowledge of shock characteristics and flow field inside a micro shock tube. Due to many factors such as boundary layer, low Reynolds number and high Knudsen number shock propagation inside micro shock tubes will be quite different from that of the well established macro shock tubes. In the present study, experimental studies were carried out on a micro shock tube of 3 mm diameter to investigate flow characteristics and shock propagation. Pressure values were measured at different locations inside the driven section. From the experimental values other parameters like shock velocity, shock strength were found and shock wave diagram was constructed.

  • An experimental study has been conducted to investigate the effects of an ultrasonic standing-wave field to the behavior of methane/air premixed flame. Visualization technique utilizing the schlieren method was employed for the observation of premixed flame behavior. The shape of flame front and local flame velocity were measured according to the variation of reactants pressure and chamber opening/closing condition. The flame front was distorted and severely deformed to a lotus-type flame by the interaction of ultrasonic standing-wave and the reflection wave coming from an end wall of reactor.

  • 수자원 공급의 시 공간적 편차가 큰 우리나라에서는 수자원을 이용하기 위해서 다수의 댐을 건설하고 있다. 특히, 생활수준의 향상으로 용수 수요가 급증하였기 때문에 용수가 부족한 곳에는 광역상수도 사업 등을 통하여 용수를 공급하고 있다. 댐에서 용수가 공급되기까지의 과정은 일종의 관수로 흐름으로 생각할 수 있다. 관수로 내를 흐르는 유체가 갑자기 정지하게 되면, 유체 운동 에너지의 변화가 유발되고, 그로 인해 관내에 급격한 압력의 상승이 일어나게 된다. 반대로 정지하고 있던 유체가 빠른 속도로 흐르게 되면 압력 감소가 급격하게 발생한다. 이와 같이 유체 운동 상태의 급변에 의한 압력변화와 그에 따른 압력파가 음속의 속도로 상 하류로 전파되는 현상을 수격작용(waterhammer)이라 한다. 통상적으로 수격작용은 밸브 개폐 정도가 갑자기 바뀔 때, 펌프의 급격한 기동이나 정지 시, 터빈 내 전력소요가 갑자기 바뀔 때, 댐 수위의 갑작스런 변화, 펌프 임펠러의 진동, 물 수요의 급격한 변화 등에 의해 발생하며, 수격작용은 유체의 질량과 운동량 때문에 관 벽에 큰 힘을 가하게 되어 정상적인 동수압 보다 몇 배나 큰 압력을 발생시킴으로 관 자체는 물론 펌프, 밸브, 터빈 등 관 시설물을 파손시키거나 진동, 소음 등을 야기시킴으로 대규모 건물, 공장, 발전소 등을 설계할 경우 그에 대한 적절한 대책을 강구하여야 한다. 특히 댐에 연결된 저수지 또는 조정지로부터의 도수로가 압력수로이며 그 길이가 상당히 크면 수차가 급정지했을 경우 수격작용에 의해서 압력터널 내에 과도한 압력상승이 일어난다. 이 압력상승을 방지함과 함께 발전소 부하의 증감에 따라서 수량을 공급하거나, 흡수할 목적으로 압력도수로와 수압관과의 접합부에 자유수면이 있는 수조를 설치한다. 이것을 조압수조(surge tank)라 한다(최영박, 1979). 조압수조에서 부하의 급속한 차단에 의해서 수차로 유입될 수량이 차단되면 도수로 내로 흘러 들어온 물은 관성 때문에 수조 내의 수위를 상승시키고, 수조 수위가 어느 정도 이상으로 되어 저수지 수위 보다 상승하면 수조로의 유입이 정지하고 반대로 수조에서 저수지로 역류하여 수조수위는 하강한다. 즉, 조압수조는 도수로 내에 발생한 과도한 압력을 수조 내 수면의 승강운동을 이용하여 감소시키고 원래의 안정적인 수위로 회복시킨다. 본 연구에서는 수격작용에 대한 댐 안정성을 확보하는 수단 중의 하나인 조압수조에 대해 살펴보았다. 연구대상으로 용담댐을 선정하였다. 용담댐에 대한 기존의 검토결과 수직 갱의 지름이 5m 이상이면 조압수조의 동적안정조건을 만족 시키는 것으로 조사되었다. 댐의 설계홍수위인 EL. 265.5m를 기준으로 조압수조의 안정성을 감소시키지 않는 범위 내에서 조압수조 내 격벽 설치 유 무에 따른 수조의 최적 크기를 산정하였다. 산정결과를 분석한 결과 동일 조건에서 격벽을 설치한 경우가 격벽을 설치하지 않은 경우에 비해서 조압수조의 면적이 약 21% 감소하는 것으로 나타났다.

  • Laser는 공간적 시간적 가간섭성이 매우 우수하며 단색성, 고출력, 단시간 Pulse등의 특성을 지 니고 있어서 각종의 계측, 통신, 가공, 정보처리, 의료, 농학 등의 다방면에 널리 응용되고 있으나 여기서는 Laser유족계에 대하여 설명하였다. 특히 지금까지 측정불가능하였던 연소현상에 대 해서도 LDV를 활용하여 좋은 연구결과를 얻을 수 있었으나 아직도 연소현상에 대한 LDV의 응용은 정치 Burner화염에 한정되어 있으며 앞으로도 많은 발전의 여지가 있는 부분이다. 그 중에서도 밀폐연소실내에서의 화염면전후의 유속계측, 전화화염의 화염전파속도, 연소속도 등에 관한 연구, 그리고 과도적으로 변동하는 유속, 화염온도, 연소실내 압력의 동시계측에 의한 각종 상관관계연구 및 난류화염유속의 계측 등금후 LDV를 이용한 실험의 발전이 매우 기대되는 바이다.

Multi-phase Flow Modeling of Vapor Explosion Propagation (증기폭발 전파과정 해석을 위한 다상유동 모델 개발)

  • A mathematical model of vapor explosion propagation is presented. The model predict two-dimensional, transient flow fields and energies of the four fluid phases of melt drop, fragmented debris, liquid coolant and vapor coolant by solving a set of governing equations with the relevant constitutive relations. These relations include melt fragmentation, coolant-phase-change, and heat and momentum exchange models. To allow thermodynamic non-equilibrium between the coolant liquid and vapor, an equation of state for oater is uniquely formulated. A multiphase code, TRACER, has been developed based on this mathematical formulation. A set of base calculations for tin/water explosions show that the model predicts the explosion propagation speed and peak pressure in a reasonable degree although the quantitative agreement relies strongly on the parameters in the constitutive relations. A set of calculations for sensitivity studies on these parameters have identified the important initial conditions and relations. These are melt fragmentation rate, momentum exchange function, heat transfer function and coolant phase change model as well as local vapor fractions and fuel fractions.

The High-speed train model for reducing the micro-pressure wave in railway tunnel (고속철도 터널에서의 미기압파 저감을 위한 모형실험)

  • The purpose of the study was to verify deduction of each coefficient necessary to analysis on micro-pressure waves and reliability of the analysis result. The tunnel running train model testing device used in the test was manufactured by scale of 1:60 and the study used a train model with ten cars long according to specifications of KTX model. The study applied tunnels with cross sections of $107.9m^3\;and\;95.1m^3$ and applied tunnel extensions with 1km, 0.75km and 0.5km. Also, the study tested train speed by changing it into 275, 300, 325 and 350km/h. The test device was a hydraulic launch system composed of a train model, a hydraulic launcher, a tunnel model and a brake. The study measured speed of a model trainby a speed sensor installed in the point of each 1.2m from the front of tunnel entrance and a pithead of tunnel exit and measured pressure change of internal tunnel continuously by installing pressure sensors in the entrance part of tunnel, in the middle part of tunnel and in the exit part of tunnel. As the result of the measurement, it was known that pressure slope of pressure wave happened in the entrance part of tunnel was increased by a nonlinear effect while spreading the tunnel or its pressure slope was reduced by diffusion. Also, the study compared and analyzed micro-pressure waves happened in the exit part of the tunnel by installing each kind of hoods in the entrance part of the tunnel to prevent reduction of micro-pressure waves.

  • The effect of loading variables and temperature on fatigue crack growth rate in SA508 Cl.3 nuclear pressure vessel steel was investigated in air environment Crack growth rate tests on compact tension specimen of thickness 12mm were conducted by using sinusoidal waveform. The crack length was monitored by compliance method. Test conditions were at 0.1 and 0.5 of load ratio, at 1 and 10 Hz of loading frequency, and at room temperature to 40$0^{\circ}C$. At the lower temperatures, the fatigue crack propagation was not affected by the frequency and temperature, while at the higher temperatures above 12$0^{\circ}C$, fatigue crack growth rate increased with decreasing loading frequency and increasing temperature. This accelerated fatigue crack propagation was associated with the increase of oxidation rate at the ahead of crack tip. Fatigue crack growth rate increased with in-creasing the load ratio. The effect of load ratio was more significant at the lower temperature, while the dependence on load ratio decreased with increasing temperature. The sensitivity of load ratio to temperature can be explained by crack closure with the oxidation process.

  • When explosives explode in water, the effect of post-explosion gas after explosion should be considered, unlike explosion in the air. During explosion in water, the propagation velocity of the explosion pressure is faster than when the explosion occurs in the air. The generated gas is diffused and trapped in the form of bubbles by water before the energy is dissipated. At this time, the bubble expands and contracts, creating a shock wave. In order to investigate this series of phenomena, a cylinder type steel water tank capable of observing the interior was fabricated and explosion experiments were conducted. In this study, a small amount of shell-free pentolite was exploded in water. Experiments were performed to observe the behavior of the generated gas bubble as well as to measure the shock wave generated. We designed the experimental method of underwater explosion and examined the results.
