  • The objective of this study was to analyze the smoke movement for the case of fire and to determine the interval between emergency exits in long tunnels. Based on Froude modeling, the 1/50 scaled model tunnel (20 m long) was constructed by acrylic tubes and tests were carried out systematically. From the strong relationship between CO propagation time and distance through the tunnel, it was found that the optimal escaping time was 6 minutes in case of 20MW fire. But, regarding passengers' psychological state under fire, another one minute of delay time should be considered. Therefore, the total escaping time should be estimated by 5 minutes. The interval between the emergency exits for vehicle passengers was calculated by 250 m with respect to the 5 minute of escaping time.

  • Some morphological characteristics were investigated on the leaves of quercus aliena, hypostomatous species, and lespedeza cyrtobotrya, amphistomatous species, that appeared dominantly on the rock faces in mt.pukhan, mt surak and mt. pulam near seoul. These characteristics were compared with those of normal sites rock faces. All two species growing on the rock faces had thickened leaves with well developed upper epidermis and palisade tissue. Quercus aliena growing on the rock faces showed the leaves with double layer of palisade cells and more regularly arranged spongy parenchyma cells to the lower epidermis. In the case of lespedeza cyrtobotrya, narrower and more lengthened palisade cells and smaller air gaps between the sponge parenchyma cells were observed on the rock faces than those growing in the normal sites. The stomater frequency of the lower epidermis of the tree leaves growing on the rock faces is higher thanthose of normal sites. However, the mean total stomata number of the tree leaves growing on the rock faces are fewer. Most of the morphological characteristics investigated indicate that the plants on the rock faces havesmaller coefficient of variation than those of the normal sites.

  • Vibro ripper worked by high frequency vibration is developed to do rock fragmentation and work of ripper is the different concept with other existing breakers. The gear box-shank welded joint of vibro ripper is very important part to deliver vibromotive force to tooth, so this part should endure high frequency vibration environments. The purposes of this study are to choose the optimal welding conditions for fatigue strength. The conditions were made using three kind of shank materials and two kind of filler metals. Shank materials are Hadox-hituf, Posten80 and AR400, and filler metals are CSF-71T and CSF-81T. The fatigue test was conducted each condition. Fracture surface was observed to estimate fracture characteristics of welded joint using SEM.

  • In this study, the vibration waveform of the single hole which is not interfered from the different blasting holes is separated, the each dominant frequency which is determinated through the Fast Fourier Transform(FFT) is measured. Also the separation waveform executed a superposition modeling which changes to delay time from 1ms to 80 ms in 1ms interval and controls the number of blasting holes from 2 holes to 15 holes in order to investigate the effect of PPV according to the duration time of the vibration and the number of blasting holes. As a result of analysis, the longer the duration time of the vibration, the longer the delay time which is not interfered from the different blasting holes and the effect regarding the number of blasting holes from inside identical delay time did not appear a lot.

  • In this study, dynamic behavior of the vehicles is analyzed, while the track is subjected to lateral vibrations due to earthquake and blasting load. A computer program(WERIA, Wheel Rail Interaction Analysis) is used, which can simulate dynamic responses of vehicles subjected to lateral vibrations. The analysis considers two types of vehicles: I.e. power cars of KTX and Busan subway train. It can also consider the interaction with sub-structures such as tracks and soil. The creep force module is considered, and the running safety of railway vehicles subjected to earthquake and blasting loading is studied. Based on the results of this study, the running safety of the vehicles can be confirmed against lateral vibration.

  • Three relatively homogeneous granitic rocks were studied to investigate the relationship between their microstructural properties and fracture toughness. Fracture toughness and ultrasonic velocity were varied with the orientation of mineral's long axis and microcrack, obtained from optical microscope. The lowest fracture toughness values are obtained, when the fracture propagates parallel to weakness planes which have the orientation of mineral's long axis and microcrack, in other words, when weakness planes develop perpendicular to the direction of tensile stress agrees with that of rift plane. The fracture toughness values, measured with the short rod method, varied from 1.63 to 2.62 MPa $m^{0.5}$, and their values are related with the average grain size and average microcrack length.

  • In this study, various laboratory experiments were conducted on tuff, basalt and diorite specimens, which were obtained in the southern part of Korean Peninsula. Experiments were performed under dry and water saturated conditions. Results showed that strength degradation and change of deformation characteristics were remarkable although the specimens had small porosity. Based on the results, regression models that are capable of predicting important mechanical rock properties, such as uniaxial compressive strength, Young's modulus, Brazilian tensile strength were proposed. P-wave velocity and Shore hardness were selected as independent variables and the results showed satisfactory prediction performance for the experimental data collected in this study.

  • This study investigated the so far little-researched characteristics of the behaviors of rock slopes at the time of an earthquake. For the selection of the rock block, a proper model was formed by applying the similarity in consideration of the roughness and strength of the rock slope(10m) on the site, and shaking table tests were carried out according to seismic excitement acceleration, and seismic waves. In the case of the inclination angle of the joint plane of 20°, the long period wave at 0.3g or more at the time of the seismic excitement surpassed the length of 100mm, the permissible displacement (0.01H, H:slope height), which brought about the collapse of the rock; the short period wave surpassed the permissible displacement at 0.1g, which caused the collapse of the slope. The rock slope was close to a rigid block and a structure more vulnerable to the long period wave than to the short period wave. It collapsed in the short period wave even at the seismic amplitude smaller than the maximum design acceleration in Korea.

  • It is studied to select the reinforcement method of an abandoned tunnel which are intersected under the new roadway line. In the various decision makings, the reasonability for the reinforcement method of an abandoned tunnel was estimated using the pair-wise comparison and the fuzzy approximate reasoning to simplify the process of survey research. And there is reflected all the qualitative and quantitative characterizations by investigation items. In order to select the reinforcement method of an abandoned tunnel, 4 characteristic factors of construction, economical efficiency, safety and maintenance were used. Using the simple survey research and pair-wise comparison matrix, the weight of 4 factors was decided. The fuzzy approximate reasoning was used to calculate the quantitative value of each factor And then reflecting each weight to these results, the final reinforcement method of an abandoned tunnel could be determined.

  • In this study, scaled model tests were performed to investigate the deformation behaviors around twin tunnels. Eleven types of test models which had respectively different pillar widths, rock types and loading conditions were mode, where the modelling materials were the mixture of sand, plaster and water. The models with shallower pillar width were cracked under lower pressure than the models with thicker pillar width, and they showed the more tunnel convergences and the clear spatting failures. The models of hard rock were cracked under 50% higher pressure than the models of soft rock and they showed the less tunnel convergences. The failure and deformation behaviors of twin tunnels were also dependent on the loading conditions of models. Futhermore, the results of FLAC analysis were qualitatively coincident with the test results.
