Effects of Liquid Pig Manuare Application Method on the Chemical Properties of Paddy Soil and Growth of Paddy Rice (돈분액비 시용법이 논토양의 이화학적 특성과 벼 생육 및 수확량에 미치는 영향)

  • We have researched the changes of paddy soil properties and rice yield by several different methods to treated with liquid pig manure(LPM). In the execution of this experiment, rice was cultivated to full maturity at a paddy field in Jeollabuk-do in 2011. Field experiment was designed with surface application on dry field condition+jet hose spray(Tr. 1), surface application on dry field condition+incorporation with irrigation water(Tr. 2), surface application on dry field condition+application device of fertilizer through irrigation(Tr. 3), submerged application on irrigated field condition+jet hose spray(Tr. 4), submerged application on irrigated field condition+incorporation with irrigation water(Tr. 5) and submerged application on irrigated field condition+application device of fertilizer through irrigation(Tr. 6) plot. Total N, P, K contents in used LPM were 0.44%, 0.07% and 0.14%, respectively. After the experiment, soil properties were not significant difference both several treated plots. But $NO_3$ and $NH_4$ contents at incorporation with irrigation water plots in paddy soil were higher than other plots. The yield was 602 kg $10a^{-1}$ in Tr. 2 plot compared Tr. 6 plot, which showed a value of 9.6% higher.

Properties of Saeu Jeotgal (Shrimp Jeotgal) Prepared with Different Types of Salts (다른 종류의 소금들로 제조한 새우 젓갈의 특성)

  • Saeu (shrimp) jeotgal (SJ) was prepared by mixing with 25% salt with different types: purified salt (PS), solar salt aged for 1 year (SS), and bamboo salt. SJ was fermented for 22 weeks at $15^{\circ}C$. Bacilli and marine bacteria were detected throughout the entire fermentation period, and marine bacteria were present in the largest numbers. Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) were detected only during the first 8-10 weeks, but yeasts appeared at the sixth week and later. Archaea were detected in low numbers only from SS-SJ during the first 8 weeks. BS- SJ showed higher pH and lower titratable acidity (TA) values than other SJs because of strong alkalinity of bamboo salt. Amino-type nitrogen (ANN) contents of SJs increased during fermentation, especially, after 2 and 6 weeks. SS-SJ showed the highest ANN content from the beginning to the end of fermentation. Ammonia-type nitrogen (AMN) contents also increased like the amino-type nitrogen during fermentation. The highest volatile basic nitrogen (VBN) was also observed in SS-SJ. Salinity was kept constant after 4 weeks. SS was better than other salts for SJ fermentation in terms of protein hydrolysis.

Effect of Formic acid and Caproic acids on the Quality and Aerobic Deterioration of Reed Canarygrass Silage (Formic acid와 Caproic acid 첨가가 Reed Canarygrass Silage의 품질과 호기적 변패에 미치는 영향)

  • In order to study the effects of silage additive on the quality and in preventing aerobic deterioration, reed canarygrass silages were made with various levels of formic acid, caproic acid and a mixture of the two acids. Preparation of silages cutted into about 1.5 cm length with the forage cutter and packed in vinyl bags(50 kg of capacity, 0.1 mrn of thickness), and it also divided nine types of experimental treatments. Aerobic deterioration in the silages were investigated for 7 days of aerobic exposure periods, and the plastic vessel of diameter 25 cm, a height 30 cm used as a tool. The results obtained from this experiment are summarized as fellow. 1. Crude protein and NFE contents at the time if opening were increased in the silage with mixture of formic and caproic acids(P<0.01). Crude fiber and ADF contents during the 7 days of aerobic exposure periods were the decreased in the sslages with mixture of two acods treatment(P<0.01). 2. Temperature of the silage treated with fromic acid alone during the 2 days of aerobic exposure period reached$34.4^{\circ}C$, while that of the silage with caproic acid and mixture formic and caproic acids were not rapidly increased resulting by reduced aerobic deteriorarion. 3. The pH of silages treated with formic acid alone during 7 days of aerobic exposure was not effectively changed, while solages treated with caproic acid were effectively stabilized. 4. The ratio of amminia nitrogen to total nitrogen was significantly decreased in silages with formic acid>caproic acid>mixture of both in the order(P<0.01). 5. Microbiological population of the silage were positively changed during the 7 days of aerobic exposure period. Solages with formic acid were deteriorated at ensiling observed, while applicarion of 1.2% caproic acid was partially reduced deteriorarion by precenting of the growth moulds.

Change of Chemical and Microbial Properties during Fermentation of Cotton Waste for Oyster Mushroom Cultivation (느타리 재배용 폐면 발효 중의 화학성 및 미생물 상의 변화)

  • The changes of microflora and chemical characteristics during fermentation process of cotton waste for oyster mushroom cultivation were investigated with 5 l bench-scale reactors placed in an incubator at different temperatures ($40,\;50\;and\;60^{\circ}C$). Cotton waste was wetted to 70% moisture, and air flow rates to the substrate were 50, 100 and 300 cc/min. In processing of composting, the mesophilic bacterial population decreased sharply but thermophilic bacterial population increased. In case of fungi, both mesophilic and thermophilic population decreased. The daily $CO_2$ evolution showed little difference in all treatments, while $NH_3$ dropped sharply after 3 days. The desirable composting temperature and air flow based on the mycelial growth of oyster mushroom were $50^{\circ}C$ and 100 cc/min, respectively.

Immobilization of Nitrifier Consortium for the Removal of Ammonium Ion in the Recirculating Aquaculture System (양어장수내의 암모니아성 질소제거를 위한 질화세균군의 고정화)

  • The immobilization of a microorganism has been rapidly progressed with the development of biotechnology in recent years. Although it has been used as a tool to isolate products from biological media in various areas, it has not yet been practiced in the treatment of waste water. In this paper, we suggest a possibility to apply the immobilization technique In the recirculating aquaculture system. We examined the ability of $NH_4^+$ removal by nitrifier consortium immobilized in $Ba^{++}-alginate$, k-carrageenan and agar bead at the concentration of 50 g/L, respectively. In order to use the immobilized nitrifier consortium as media in the fludized bed reactor, the strength of bead was measured. $Ba^{++}-alginate$ as a support material showed higher strength of bead. Also, the nitrifier consortium immobilized in $Ba^{++}-alginate$ showed higher nitrification activity that could remove 20 mg/L ammonium ion than those immobilized in other two support materials, carrageenan and agar. The immobilized nitrifier consortium showed better nitrification activity than free nitrifier consortium.

Alum as a Chemical Amendment for Reducing Ammonia Emission and Stabilizing Pig Manure Phosphorus during Composting (돈분뇨 퇴비화 과정에서 Alum 처리가 암모니아 휘산과 인산 안정화에 미치는 영향)

  • Composting is a good strategy for management of livestock manure. However, it leads to large ammonia emissions and has a potential phosphorus runoff due to high content of soluble phosphorus. The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of alum on reducing ammonia emissions and stabilizing phosphorus during composting of pig manure. For this study, alum was applied at rates of 0 (No-Alum), 1.0 (Alum-L), and 3.0 (Alum-H) g Al $kg^{-1}$ pig manure and sawdust mixture (fresh matter basis). The thermophilic stage was quickly achieved in Alum-L and No-alum treatment, but it was delayed to 5 days in Alum-H treatment. The thermophilic stage was maintained for 2 weeks in all treatment. The pH of compost treated with alum remained below 8.0 for the 35 d but it was above 8.0 in No-Alum treatment. For the first 15 days of composting process, 93, 87, and 58% of total ammonia emissions were occurred in No-Alum-L and Alum-H, respectively. The Alum-H and Alum-L treatments reduced $NH_3$ volatilization by 31 and 78% compared with No-Alum treatment. Alum treatments shifted manure P form $H_2O$ and $NaHCO_3$ extractable P into NaOH extractable P which is very stable under acid and alkaline condition. Therefore, alum is a good chemical amendment for reducing ammonia emission during composting and potential losses of P following compost applications.

Anaerobic Treatment of Leachate Solubilized from Thermal Hydrolysis of Sludge Cake (하수슬러지 케이크 열수분해 탈리액의 혐기성 분해 특성)

  • This study was performed to evaluate the feasibility of anaerobic pretreatment for the leachate solubilized from thermal hydrolysis of sewage sludge cake. Overall process for the treatment of sludge cake consists of thermal hydrolysis, crystallization of magnesium, ammonium, and phosphate (MAP) for the leachate and anaerobic digestion of supernatant from MAP crystallization. The experimental evidence showed that the optimum ratio of Mg : P for the struvite crystallization of leachate solubilized from thermal hydrolysis of sludge cake was 1.5 to 1.0 as weight basis at the pH of 9.5. With this operational condition, the removal efficiencies of ammonia nitrogen and phosphorous achieved 50% and 97%, respectively. The mesophilic batch test showed that the ultimate biodegradability of the supernatant from MAP crystallization reached 63% at S/I ratio of 0.5. The readily biodegradable fraction of 90% ($S_1$) of the MAP supernatant BVS (Biodegradable Volatile Solids, $S_0$) degraded with $k_1$ of $0.207day^{-1}$ for the initial 17 days where as the rest slowly biodegradable fraction ($S_2$) of 10% of BVS degraded with $k_2$ of $0.02day^{-1}$ for the rest of the operational period. Semi-Continuously Fed and Mixed Reactor (SCFMR) was chosen as one of the best candidates to treat the MAP supernatant because of its total solids content over 6%. Maximum average biogas production rates reached 0.45 v/v-d and TVS removal efficiency of 37~41% was achieved at an hydraulic retention time (HRT) of 20 days and its corresponding organic loading rate (OLR) of 1.43 g VS/L-d.

Eutrophication in the Downstream of Nakdong River (낙동강 하류역의 부영양화현상에 관한 연구)

  • A study on eutrophication in the downstream of the Nakdong River was conducted from October 1983 to September 1984. Nutrients concentration of the samples in this area was usually high and the nitrogen ratio to the phosphorus was as very high as $63.5{\sim}119.6$. The concentration of nutrients was in the range of $0.22{\sim}173{\mu}g-at/l$ for ammonia nitrogen, $26.7{\sim}187{\mu}g-at/l$ for nitrate nitrogen, $1.07{\sim}8.22{\mu}g-at/l$ for nitrite nitrogen, $58.7{\sim}231{\mu}g-at/l$ for total inorganic nitrogen and $0.44{\sim}4.43{\mu}g-at/l$ for phosphate phosphorus. The concentration of chlorophyll-a was in the range of $1.8{\sim}75.2\;mg/m^3$. Correlationship between concentration of nutrients and chlorophyll-a was not found. The concentrations of total suspended solid were in the range of $10.7{\sim}45.9\;ppm$, and $16.2{\sim}35.2\%$ of the total suspended solid was consisted of volatile suspended solid. According to the state of lacustrine nutrition, the state of the downstream of Nakdong River was equivalent to the eutrophication state in term of chlorophyll-a and inorganic nitrogen, and mid-nutritional state in term of phosphate.

Effects of Dietary Germanium Biotite on Growth Performance and Blood Characteristics in Broiler Chicks (육계에 있어 게르마늄 흑운모의 첨가가 성장 및 혈액성상에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effect of germanium biotite on the growth performance, blood composition , fecal NH$_3$-N and volatile fatty acid(VFA) in broiler chicks. Two hundred forty broiler chicks were randomly allocated into five treatments with four replicates for five weeks. Dietary treatments included 1) Control, 2) GB1(basal diet + 200 mesh 0.5%), 3) GB2(basal diet + 325 mesh 0.5%), 4) GB3(basal diet + 200 mesh 1.0%) and 5) GB4(basal diet +325 nesh 1.0%) For overall period, weight gain, feed intake and feed conversion were not significantly different among treatments (P>0.05). Digestibilities of nutrients were not affected by adding GB(P>0.05). No differences occurred in red blood cell(RBC), white blood cell(WBC), hematocrit(HCT), hemoglobin(Hb), lymphocyte, monocyte and platelet of blood among the treatments (P>0.05). Fecal NH$_3$-N concentration of chicks fed GB1.0 diets(GB3 and GB4) was lower(P<0.03) than chicks fed GB0.5 diets(GB1 and GB2). Propionic acid and butyric acid in feces of chicks fed GB diets were lower(P<0.04) than in chicks fed control diet. GB diets reduced fecal acetic acid significantly compared to control (P<0.01). Also, acetic acid of feces in chicks fed GB1.0 diets(GB3 and GB4) was lower(P<0.02) than GB 0.5 diets(GB1 and GB2) treatments. In conclusion, dietary germanium biotite was an effective means of decreasing fecal NH$_3$-N and volatile fatty acid(VFA) emission.

Preparation of Low Salt and functional Kochujang Containing Chitosan (키토산을 함유하는 저식염 기능성 고추장의 제조)

  • In order to manufacture the low salt and functional Kochujang, salt amount was reduced to 6% and chitosan was added to 0.25% to the Kochujang preparation. The contents of ash, moisture, crude fat and crude protein in Kochujang were not affected by the reduced salt concentration and chitosan addition. pH and titratable acidity were not significantly changed by the addition of chitosan. Ethanol content was higher in 6% salt Kochujang tan in 9% salt Kochujang and decreased by the addition of chitosan. Reducing sugar content was lower in 6% salt Kochujang than in 9% salt Kochujang and increased by chitosan addition. $\alpha$-Amylase activity was slightly inhibited by the addition of chitosan, however, $\beta$-amylase, acidic protease and neutral protease activities were not affected. Amino nitrogen and ammonia nitrogen contents were higher in 6% salt Kochujang than in 9% salt Kochujang, but ammonia nitrogen production was significantly decreased by chitosan addition. Also the growth of bacteria and yeasts were slightly inhibited by the addition of chitosan. From the above results we concluded that 0.25% chitosan was the good concentration to prepare the low salt and functional Kochujang.
