Hydraulic Model Experimental Study on the Rope Kink Phenomena and Mooring Block Behavior under Wave Conditions at a Seaweed Farm (연승 수하식 양식시설의 파랑 중 해조류 꼬임 현상 및 계류용 블록 이동에 관한 수리모형 실험적 연구)

  • In this study, a hydraulic model experiment under wave conditions was carried out to investigate the gap/distance between two near-unit farm lines that affects the rope kink and shape variation of a seaweed farm during mooring block movement. As a result, rope kink occurred during the low wave height condition as the gap/distance between the two near-unit farm lines decreased. The seaweed farm maintained a stable shape in the higher wave height conditions as the gap/distance between the two near-unit farm lines increased. This result indicates that rope kink is sensitively affected by the gap/distance between the two near-unit farm lines. A tendency to increase the critical wave height was observed when mooring block movement occurred, and as the mooring block weight and wave period increased. From the experimental results in which incident wave conditions and the mooring block weight changed, as the front side mooring block weight increased from 3.0 to 8.0 tons, the seaweed farm was stable, and rear side mooring block movement hardly occurred. The observed tension of the seaside mooring line was a maximum at about 3.0 ton/m.

Performance Assessment of Navigation Seakeeping for Coastal Liquified-Natural-Gas Bunkering Ship (연안선박용 LNG 벙커링 전용선박의 내항성능 평가에 대한 연구)

  • Through the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy, South Korea is trying to support the "Building Project for Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) Bunkering Ship," centered on the Korea Gas Corporation, while the Ministry of Maritime Af airs and Fisheries is pushing to construct an LNG bunkering terminal at Busan New Port. LNG bunkering ships are essential for supplying LNG fuel from the terminal to the ships, resulting in the need for safety operation procedures. Therefore, in this study, the stability of a coastal LNG bunkering ship operating from Busan New Port to the anchorage in Busan Port was assessed to investigate the need for operational procedures for coastal LNG bunkering ships. Seakeeping analysis of the LNG bunkering ship was performed for each significant wave height by combining the response amplitude operator from the ship motion analysis under the potential flow theory with the actual observed sea data for five years and Texel, Marsen, and Arsloe (TMA) spectrum suitable for the Busan coast. The results showed that the roll and horizontal acceleration were the main risks that affected the navigation seakeeping performance above a significance wave height of 2 m. The operational periods of the LNG bunkering ship ranged from 83.3% to 99.9% of the total observation period.

Evaluation of Stability of Quay Wall Considering Overtopping of Tsunami (지진해일파의 월파를 고려한 해안안벽의 안정성평가)

  • This study was conducted to estimate the stability of a quay wall in case of wave overtopping under the combined action of an earthquake and tsunami using limit equilibrium method. The tsunami force was calculated by using a numerical program called TWOPM-3D (3-D one-field Model for immiscible TWO-Phase flows). Especially, the wave force acting behind the quay wall after a tsunami wave overtopping was estimated by treating back fill as a permeable material. The stability of the quay wall was assessed for both the sliding and overturning modes under passive and active conditions. The variation in the stability of the quay wall with time was determined by parametric studies, including those for the tsunami wave height, seismic acceleration coefficient, internal friction angle of the soil, wall friction angle, and pore water pressure ratio. When the earthquake and tsunami were considered simultaneously, the tsunami induced wave overtopping increased the stability of the quay wall under the passive condition, but in the active condition, the safety factors decreased.

  • The present study analyzes the stability of waterfront quay wall under the combined action of earthquake and tsunami. Adopting the limit equilibrium method, the stability of waterfront quay wall is checked for both the sliding and overturning. Forces due to tsunami are compared with the proposed formula and the 3-D one-field Model for immiscible TWO-Phase flows (TWOPM-3D). Variations of the stability of wall are also proposed by the parametric study including tsunami water height, horizontal seismic acceleration coefficient, internal friction angle of soil, friction angle between the wall and the soil and the pore water pressure ratio. The present study about the stability of wall is also compared with the case when earthquake and tsunami are not considered. As a result, the result of numerical analysis about the tsunami force is similar to that of proposed formula. When earthquake and tsunami are simultaneously considered, the stability of wall in passive case significantly decreases and tsunami forces in active case are affected as a resistance force on the wall and so the stability of wall increases.

The Effects of the Walking Exercise on ST/HR Slope and QRS Vector in the Middle-Aged Men (운동부하 심전도를 이용한 중년 남성들의 걷기 운동이 ST/HR 경사 및 QRS 벡터에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the changes of long term ECG response in a company with middle-aged male employees. Subjects were 60 men who were 40~55 years old. We enrolled 30 exercise group subjects into a 3-year exercise program. In measurement index, body composition was measured by % body fat and BMI. Exercise stress test analyses were measured using ST/HR slope and QRS vector. Statistical analysis was performed using analysis of repeated ANOVA. Results of this study were as follows: In ST/HR slope, the control group showed symptoms of ischemia after nine minutes of exercise. In the rest frontal axis of the QRS vector, the control group had a tendency towards right axis deviation. In the rest horizontal amplitude of the QRS vector, the control group had a tendency to show a significant decrease, but it was increased significantly in the exercise group. These findings suggest that inactive company workers was showed a decrease of exercise capacity, early diagnosis exercise-induced ST depression, and prolonged deviation of QRS vector, but that cardiac function could be elevated in active middle aged men through regular exercise program participation.

  • n-type 실리콘은 p-type과 비교하여 더 높은 소수캐리어 lifetime 으로 금속 불순물에 대하여 더 좋은 내성을 갖는다. 고효율 실리콘 태양전지를 위하여 p-type 웨이퍼를 n-type으로 교체하여 빛을 조사했을 때, 광전자들이 형성되어 p-type과 비교하여 더 좋은 lifetime 안정성을 갖는다. n-type 태양전지의 전면 전극은 AgAl paste로 형성하였다. AgAl 페이스트는 소성 온도와 밀접하게 관련되어 전극의 접합 깊이에 영향을 미친다. p+ emitter 층에 파고드는 금속 접촉의 최적화된 깊이는 접촉 저항에 영향을 미치는 중요한 요소이다. 본 연구에서는 소성 조건을 변화시킴으로써, 금속 깊이의 효과적인 형성을 위한 소성 조건을 최적화하였다. $670^{\circ}C$ 이하의 온도에서 소성을 진행 하였을 때, 충분한 접촉 깊이를 형성하지 못하여 높은 접촉저항을 갖는다. 소성 온도가 증가함에 따라, 접촉 저항은 감소하였다. 최적 소성 온도 $865^{\circ}C$에서 측정된 접촉저항은 $5.99mWcm^2$이다. $900^{\circ}C$ 이상에서 contact junction은 emitter를 통과하여 실리콘과 결합하였다. 그 결과로 접촉저항 shunt가 발생한다.

Characteristics of Natural and Experimental Fracture Propagation in Rocks (암석 내의 자연균열과 인공균열의 진행특성)

  • Fracture mechanics properties of rock materials can he applied to predict the distribution of natural fractures in rock masses, and also to assess the safety of rock slopes and underground structures. In this study, rock fracture toughness and other fracture rrechanics properties of sorne lithologies showing apparently rock-property-controlled distribution of natural fractures were measured. Propagation behaviors of natural and experirnental fractures were also characterized both qualitatively and quantitatively, in terns of the propagation types and sorne statistical parameters. It was concluded that the application of fracture mechanics theories to the ge6logic materials should be based on the geological background and evidences.

  • In the design of a portable Gamma-ray transistorized steel pipe thickness gauge, a pulse height discriminator and an anti-coincidence circuit could be eliminated by using a thin, less than 1/2inch, NaI(Tl) scintillation crystal in the detecting probe. This method could provide an economic design and fabrication of a gamma-ray back-scattering gauge allowing allmost the same accuracy and stability compared with the exsisting method. A gauge had been designed and fabricated with the above method and its accuracy was experimentall tested for the 200$^{\circ}C$ high temperature steel pipes. The result showed that the thermal drift was less than y percent which was acceptabel in the practical applications.

  • In this study, we applied the wave generation method by relaxation method to the SWASH model, which is a non - hydrostatic numerical model, for stable and accurate wave generation of linear and nonlinear waves. To validate the relaxation wave generation method, we were simulated various wave, including the linear wave and nonliner wave and compared with analytical solution. As a result, the incident wave was successfully generated and propagated in all cases from Stokes waves to cnoidal wave. Also, we were confirmed that the wave height and the waveform were in good agreement with the analytical solution.

  • The procedure of wave energy dissipation due to breaking has been investigated with trains of the regular wave. To obtain the data for wave breaking and its deformation, experiments have been conducted by utilizing a horizontal step adjoining to a combined slope of 1/20 and 1/10. After breaking the wave height decreases by dissipation but attains a stable value at some distance from the breaking point Experimental results show that the stable wave is considerably affected by the wave period. The study gives the general form of stable wave height A new one-dimensional wave deformation model is proposed. being coupled with an approximated shoaling coefficient before wave breaking and the new energy dissipation term after breaking. It was compared with the experimental data. It predicts well the wave height deformation before and after wave breaking even on the abrupt change of the depth.
