  • In this work, analytical bias arising from the gas chromatographic determination of sulfur compounds was evaluated by the application of direct loop injection method to the GC/PFPD detection of four sulfur compounds including H$_{2}$S, CH$_{3}$SH, DMS, and DMDS. For the proper evaluation of analytical uncertainties involved in GC calibration, we employed two comparative techniques of calibration at fxed concentration injection (CFCI) vs calibration at fixed volume injection (CFVI) method. The results of our study indicate that CFCI method exhibits very poor sensitivity due to the matrix effect with varying injection volumes. On the other hand, as CFVI method overcomes such limitation, it can be used to obtain very accurate quantification of S compounds at their high concentration levels above a few to a few tens ppb.

  • 퇴비호 과정중에 암모니아 휘산은 퇴비 내의 질소성분을 유출시키고 있는 동시에 악취를 발생한다는 측면에서 바람직하지 못하다. 아직까지 암모니아 휘산을 방지할 수 있는 방법은 개발되어 있지 않다. 본 연구에서는 퇴비화 과정에서 온도, 암모니아휘산및 엔탈피의 변화를 분석하였다. 퇴비화 온도가 높을 때는 암모니아 휘산도 많이 발생하였으나 퇴비화 15일 후 온도가 63$^{\circ}C$로 하강함에 따라 암모니아 휘산은 줄어들기 시작하여 온도가 6$0^{\circ}C$이하로 떨어지는 21일부터는 거의 발생하지 않았다. 퇴비화 온도에 의하여 진행과정과 암모니아 휘산의 추이를 추정할 수있었다.

  • 본 발명은 화장실의 세면대에서 사용된 세척수 및 하수를 중수도 수질기준에 적합하도록 처리하여 화장실 용수로 재활용하는 화장실의 중수도 시스템에 관한 것이다. 화장실의 중수도 시스템의 구성을 살펴보면, 세면대에서 사용된 세척수 및 하수가 유입되는 반응조와, 상기 반응조로 유입된 세척수 및 하수를 살균 및 소독하는 마이크로버블 오존 발생장치와, 살균 및 소독된 처리수를 정장하는 처리수조와, 상기 처리수조에 저장된 처리수를 화장실 용수로 공급하는 용수공급펌프를 포함한다. 이 중에서 상기 마이크로버블 오존 발생장치는, 외부에서 유입된 공기를 정화하는 에어필터와, 상기 에어필터에서 정화된 공기를 공급하는 에어펌프와, 상기 에어펌프를 통해 유입된 공기에 자외선을 조사하여 오존을 발생시키는 오존발생기와, 상기 오존발생기에서 발생된 오존을 세척수 및 하수에 혼합시키는 기액혼합펌프와 상기 오존과 상기 세척수 및 상기 하수의 혼합 효과를 극대화하기 위한 라인믹서로 구성된다. 이와 같이 구성된 본 발명에 의한 화장실의 중수도 시스템은 상수(上水)의 소비량을 줄이고 하수(下水)의 발생량을 감소시켜 경비절감의 효과를 얻을 수 있고, 지하수의 고갈 및 생활용수의 증가에 따른 물 부족 현상에 대해 능동적으로 대처할 수 있다. 특히, 재활용된 화장실 용수에는 오존이 함유되어 화장실 내의 악취제거, 살균 및 소독효과가 있으며, 외부로 배출되는 세척수 및 하수에 포함된 유지성분을 제거하여 환경오염을 방지할 수 있다.

Comparative Sampling Procedures for the Volatile Flavor Components of Codonopsis lanceolata (전처리 방법에 따른 더덕(Codonopsis lanceolata)의 휘발성 향기성분 비교 분석)

  • Volatile flavor components of Codonopsis lanceolata were extracted by gas co-distillation (GCD), solvent extraction/fractionation (SEF), and headspace sampling (HSS) methods. The extracts were analyzed by dual-capillary gas chromatography-retention index (GC-RI) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS). The two extracts prepared by SEF and HSS gave more similar fragrance to the Codonopsis lanceolata than the GCD extract. The GC profiles of the SEF and HSS extracts were similar to each other except for differences in peak areas. The extract prepared by SEF gave a sweet note while the extract prepared by HSS gave a green note. The GCD extract began to give a burnt note of herb medicine with prolonged distillation. Rapid extraction of flavor components from Codonopsis lanceolata was possible in several short steps by SEF and HSS methods compared to GCD. GC-MS and GC-RI were used for peak identification. GC-RI was more effective for identification of isomers, and polar FFAP column was more suitable for identification of polar compounds. From Codonopsis lanceolata we identified 35 volatile flavor constituents, 24 of which have not been previously reported by simultaneous distillation extraction method $^{(5)}$. trans-2-Hexanal, cis-3-hexen-1-ol, trans-2-hexen-1-ol, and hexanol were considered key components of the green note and 1-octen-3-ol, the component of the fresh note. Esters, including amyl propionate, seem to be responsible for the sweet note particular to Codonopsis lanceolata.

  • Hydrogen sulfide from landfill and sewage treatment plant is a major odor component and causes many civil petitions. Rapidly developing industries release hydrogen sulfide, an odorous gas, to the atmosphere. This study aims to develop a $10{\mu}mol/mol$ concentration level hydrogen sulfide primary standard gas for odor measurement. The hydrogen sulfide gas was prepared at a nominal concentration of $10{\mu}mol/mol$ in nitrogen using the gravimetric method described in ISO 6142. Replicate standard gases were produced in 4 aluminium cylinders, and their concentrations were verified by GC-AED. The uncertainty of production was less than 0.50 %, and the variation of the 4 replicates was 0.22 %. The wall adsorption of hydrogen sulfide in cylinders was 0.10 % at 1500 psi, and the concentration was estimated to be long-term stable for one year. The relative expanded uncertainty of the preparation consistency, adsorption and long-term stability of this hydrogen sulfide standard gas was less than 1.05 % (95 % of confidence level, k=2).

  • Gunpo city, a medium sized city formed with a basin is populated with a little more than 270,000 peoples and includes the industrial area with about 600 factories. It has been recognized for a long time that peoples living nearby industrial area have complained on serious air contamination due to the geographical and environmental factors. This study was performed on measurement of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and malodor for the air sampled in various places of Gunpo city, and made comparison with VOCs levels in specific area of Seoul. This work would play important role for the efficient management of air contamination of Gunpo city. Samplings were done in the rooftop of eleven village office buildings including Gunpo station in June 12th, 2001. Analytical results indicate that VOCs levels of Gunpo-1-dong, Gunpo station and Kumjungdong regions neighboring industrial area were much higher than the rest of areas, and this fact shows that the origin for air contamination of Gunpo would be industrial area than car exhaustion gases.

Simultaneous Analyses for Trace Multi-Odorous and Volatile Organic Compounds in Gas using a Triple-bed Adsorbent Tube (Triple-bed Adsorbent Tube를 이용한 가스상 극미량 복합 악취 및 휘발성 유기화합물의 동시 분석)

  • The objective of this study is to assess feasibility of simultaneous analysis for trace multi-components odorous and volatile organic compounds using a Triple-bed adsorbent tube with a thermal desorber and GC-MS. Triple-bed adsorbent tube is 3 bed packed Tenax-TA with small amount of Carbopack B and Carbosieve SIII in order of adsorption strength in a tube. The operating conditions of GC-MS was possibly able to and effectively detect high volatile and low molecular weight compounds at the mass range of 20~350 m/z using a below impurity 1ppm of Helium carrier gas, of which quantitatively analyzed by target ion extracts. According to the experiment, $C_1{\sim}C_5$ of 14 components; sulfur containing compounds(2), ketones(2), alcohols(4) and aldehydes(6) were simultaneously analyzed with recoveries of 99%, and good repeatability and linearity. High volatile and low molecular weight compounds such as methyl alcohol and acetaldehyde can be safely quantified with high recovery at a condition of 50mL/min of flow rate, below 2L of adsorption volume, and 45% of relative humidity. Target ion extract can also simultaneously quantify multicomponents with odorous and volatile organic compounds in an occasion of piled up two peaks.

Removal Efficiency of Water Pollutants and Malodor of Pig Slurry using Biofiltration System (여재순환장치를 이용한 돈분뇨 슬러리의 오염물질 및 악취제거 효율)

  • The pig slurry is one of important fertilizer source for production of crops in recent years, but it has many controversial points of utilization such as offensive odor, lack of spread equipment and farmland possession, respectively. This study was carried out in order to remove water pollutants and malodor of pig slurry using biofiltration system. The biofiltration system consists of pig slurry separator, mixing shift and attached blade for sawdust or ricehull, air injection nozzle and outlet for pig slurry and sawdust or ricehull. The characteristics pH, $BOD_5$ (Biochemical Oxygen Demand), $COD_{Mn}$ (Chemical Oxygen Demand), SS (Suspended Solid), T-N (Total Nitrogen), T-P (Total Phosphorus) of the untreated pig slurry used in this study were 7.2, 34,450, 24,604, 71,000, 4,194, $1,631\;ml/{\ell}$, respectively. The $NH_3$ (Ammonia) and $H_2S$(Hydrogen Sulfide) concentration were 70.0, 9.6 ppm, respectively. The initial total microorganisms of pig slurry were $5.0{\times}10^3\;cfu/ml$, and Salmonella, Bacillus were $5.8{\times}10^2$, $1.1{\times}10^3\;cfu/ml$, respectively. The filtration system was very effective on removal of water pollutants of pig slurry. The removal efficiency of the offensive odor of ammonia and hydrogen sulfide in sawdust was higher than those of ricehull. The total microorganisms and bacillus of pig slurry are on the increase by sawdust and ricehull, but Salmonella showed a tendency to decrease in number after that time. Accordingly, the filtration system was very effective to produce a good quality pig slurry.
