The therapeutic methods and follow - up prognosis of subcondylar fractures in adults have always been sources of controversy. To improve the therepeutic results in subcondylar fractures with displacement, and especially, the bicondylar ones, the auther employ the surgical reduction using of sagittal split and oblique subcondylar osteotomy. This report is illustrated by six clinical cases.

The pediatric condylar fracture occurs very frequently in the mandible, but this injury is occasionally ignored due to difficulty of diagnosis and no cooperation of patient. The adequate initial diagnosis and active treatment must be performed because delayed and improper treatment lead to possible severe complication such as TMJ ankylosis and reta rdation of mandibular development. Most pediatric condylar fracture is mainly performed by the conservative or functional treatment, but it may be required open reduction according to cases. In this study, activator is applied for functional treatment of pediatric condylar fracture and fair recovery of jaw function is acquired.

Fracture site osteomyelitis begins rarely with an acute event but rather has a subacute onset. It develops almost exclusively in the mandibular region. The treatment principles of mandibular fracture site osteomyelitis are complete removal of inflammatory tissue and drainage, rigid fixation with or without autogenous bone bone graft and specific antibiotic therapy. But hyperbaric oxygen used as a modality in the treatment of intractable osteomyelitis. In this paper, we reported that the three patients who have osteomyelitis accompying secondary in fection after mandibular fracture.

Fractures of the mandibular condyle are among the most frequently occuring facial bone fractures. Anatomical structures around the joint inhibit the ideal reposition of the fragments, so variable treatment modalities have been tried selectivly. There can be functional disturbances postoperatively, and normalization of joint function must be considered primarily in treatment planning. Secondly, the possible joint ankylosis and facial deformity following developmental disturbance of facial skeleton must be considered. The authors reviewed 73 patients treated in Dept. of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Inje College of medicine Pusan Paik Hospital from 1981 to 1987. Also literatures were reviewed, and we obtained some reference points concerning the selection of the treatment modality and prevention of the possible complication.

Maxillofacial deformities are not considered to be a trouble in social life but function. So many maxillofacial plastc surgeons has made efforts to overcome these troubles and bring out more positive life. The proper proportion and shape decide esthetic quality. Lower third of face was consist with lip, cheek, mandibular lower border and mandibular angle. Widening lower third of face give a impression with muscular and recklessness. And lower and wide mandibular angle makes face square shape. Unilateral involvement cause asymmestric face. These face is considered unfavorable, especially in Korea or Japan. We prevent a number of with mandibular angle Bulging which was corrected with mandibular osteotomy or masseter myotomy.

Several authors have proposed techniques and devices by which the correct position of the proximal segment can be maintained both during fixation and postoperatively. Schendel, Epker, Lake, Worms, Ive and Poulton have been discussed the problem of condylar distration in mandibular orthognathic surgery. This study described have showed the some advantages forward repositioning of the condyle head in vertical ramus osteotomy which used with the Mini-Hoffmann sets in external skeletal pin fixation extraorally in 19 cases.

A sexually intact female Alaskan Malamute, 5-year-old weighing 25.2 kg presented to the Hangang Animal Hospital, following hit-by-car. On initial presentation, the dog had severe salivation and the right canine tooth luxation. Radiographs revealed fractures of the right rostral hemimandible with the right canine tooth luxation and symphyseal separation. Surgical repair of fractures was performed by use of an interdental wiring technique and external fixation technique that included pins, an acrylic connecting bar, and polymethyl methacrylate bone cement. Post-operative radiographs revealed that bridging callus was well formed over cortices of the fracture area. Pins and an acrylic connecting bar were removed 7 weeks post-operatively. The dog exhibited evidence of normal mastication.
