  • Optimization of process variables such as arc current, welding voltage and welding speed in terms of the weld characteristics desired is the key step in achieving high quality and improving performance characteristics without increasing the cost. Consequently, incorrect settings of those process variables give rise to deviations in the welding characteristics from the desired bead geometry. Therefore, trainee welders are referred to the tabulated information relating different metal types and thickness as to recommend the desired values of process variables. Basically, the bead geometry plays an important role in determining the mechanical properties of the weld. So that it is very important to select the process variables for obtaining optimal bead geometry. However, it is difficult for the traditional identification methods to provide an accurate model because the optimized welding process is non-linear and time-dependent. In this paper, the possibilities of the Infra-red sensor in sensing and control of the bead geometry in the automated welding process are presented. Infra-red sensor is a well-known method to deal with the problems with a high degree of fuzziness so that the sensor is employed to build the relationship between process variables and the quality characteristic the proposed above respectively. Based on several neural networks, the mathematical models are derived from extensive experiments with different welding parameters and complex geometrical features. The developed system enables to select the optimal welding parameters and control the desired weld dimensions during arc welding process.

Development of Thermocouple Sensor for Thermal Boundary Layer Measurement (온도 경계층 측정용 열전대 센서 개발)

  • This research focused on designing an appropriate thermocouple sensor for a thermal boundary layer with a large temperature gradient. It was designed to minimize the conduction error from a constant temperature wall in a boundary layer. A $79.9-{\mu}m$ thermocouple was chosen, and a five-axis device jig was developed to fabricate a butt-welded thermocouple, which is different from arc-welded junction thermocouples. This was used to minimize the size of the thermocouple junction. In addition to fabricating butt-welded thermocouples, a thorough calibration was conducted to decrease the internal error of a multimeter to ensure that the data from the butt-welded and regular thermocouples were almost the same. Based on this method, a butt-welded thermocouple with a small junction was found to be suitable for measuring the temperature in a thermal boundary layer with very large thermal gradients. Using this thermal boundary layer probe, the thermal boundary layers in a turbine cascade were measured, and the Nusselt numbers were obtained for the turbine endwall.

  • 신재생에너지원의 급속한 보급, 고신뢰 및 고효율 전원망에 대한 고객의 요구, 디지털부하의 급증 등 기술적 사회적 환경의 변화에 따라 직류배전망에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있다. 이에 따라 직류배전망의 안전성에 대한 문제도 지속적으로 제기되고 있다. 특히 지락, 단락사고, 절연고장, 낙뢰, 아크, 전식 등으로부터 인체 감전과 기기의 소손, 정지 또는 오동작이 발생될 수 있으며 이로 인해 심각한 문제를 야기될 수 있다. 국제표준 IEC 60364에서는 전기설비에 따른 접지시스템을 TT, TN 및 IT접지의 3가지로 분류하고 있다. TN접지방식은 전원선과 설비외함의 노출 도전부를 보호도체를 사용하여 공통으로 접지하는 계통을 말한다. 따라서, 전원선이 외함에 접촉되거나 인체의 감전에 의한 누전사고가 발생하였을 때 전원선 전체를 통하여 흐르는 전류의 차이를 검출함으로서 사고전류의 검출이 즉각 이루어 질 수 있다. 교류계통에서는 영상전류검출기에 의하여 누설전류의 검출이 가능하지만 직류계통에서는 영상전류검출기를 사용할 수 없으므로 새로운 방식의 누전검출장치의 개발이 요구된다. 또한 감전 사고는 인체의 사고와 설비의 사고 두 가지로 구별되며, 효율적인 전력운영과 안전을 위하여 두가지 사고에 대해 통합적으로 구분 동작이 가능한 누설전류 검출기 개발이 요구된다. 본 연구에서는 TN접지계통에서 직류누설전류 검출이 가능한 홀 센서(HCT)를 사용하여 인체 및 설비의 누설전류 패턴에 따라 구분 동작이 가능한 직류용 누설전류 검출기 개발에 관한 연구를 수행하였다.

Arc/Line Segments-based SLAM by Updating Accumulated Sensor Data (누적 센서 데이터 갱신을 이용한 아크/라인 세그먼트 기반 SLAM)

  • This paper presents arc/line segments-based Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) by updating accumulated laser sensor data with a mobile robot moving in an unknown environment. For each scan, the sensor data in the set are stored by a small constant number of parameters that can recover the necessary information contained in the raw data of the group. The arc and line segments are then extracted according to different limit values, but based on the same parameters. If two segments, whether they are homogenous features or not, from two scans are matched successfully, the new segment is extracted from the union set with combined data information obtained by means of summing the equivalent parameters of these two sets, not combining the features directly. The covariance matrixes of the segments are also updated and calculated synchronously employing the same parameters. The experiment results obtained in an irregular indoor environment show the good performance of the proposed method.

  • In this paper, we introduce an intelligent robotic arc welding system which exploits sensors like as LVS (Laser Vision Sensor), Hall effect sensor, voltmeter and so on. The use of industrial robot is saturated because of its own limitation, and one of the major limitations is that industrial robot cannot recognize the environment. Lately, sensor-based environmental awareness research of the industrial robot is performed actively to overcome such limitation, and it can expand application field and improve productivity. We classify the sensor-based intelligent arc welding robot system by the goal and the sensing data. The goals can be categorized into detection of a welding start point, tracking of a welding line and correction of a torch deformation. The Sensing data can be categorized into welding data (i.e. current, voltage and short circuit detection) and displacement data (i.e. distance, position). This paper covers not only the explanation of the each category but also its advantage and limitation.

  • The Piezoelectric ceramics for AE(Acoustic Emission) sensor are desired large electromechanical coupling factor, high mechanical quality factor and good characteristic resonance frequency. In this study, the empirical formula of specimens is used $0.9Pb(Zr_xTi_{1-x})O_3-0.1Pb(Mn_{1/3}Nb_{1/3}Sb_{1/3})O_3$ (PZT-PMNS). The piezoelectric and dielectric characteristic are investigated by sintering temperature and value of x as functions of $Ti^{2+},\;Zi^{2+}$ mol rate. MPB(morphotropic Phase boundary) is defined in the x=0.522. Because it is appeared to the best piezoelectric and dielectric characteristic in the x=0.522, it can be application by AE sensor. PZT-PMNS ceramics without pre-amplifier and filter are tested for detecting of arc signal. The detection characteristic is evaluated wave form, frequency distribution.

The partial discharge and breakdown phenomena due to metallic particle in $SF_6$ gas chamber ($SF_6$ 가스챔버내 금속이물에 대한 부분방전 및 절연파괴 현상)

  • This paper describes the partial discharge due to particles in $SF_6$ gas. A model GIS chamber was designed and manufactured. The partial discharge and breakdown phenomena due to the particles between electrodes were observed and partial discharge signals were detected, using an ultrasonic sensor. The analysis of the electric field by the states of the particle inserted between the electrodes, were also carried out. The partial discharge was observed at end while the particle was moving in $SF_6$ gas. The partial discharge in micro-gap grows to arc, and after all, it can cause a breakdown.The electric field strength was the highest in case that the particle was vertically attached on the conductor, and the lowest in case that it was horizontally attached on the enclosure.

  • Accident likelihood is growing due to a correlation for gas and electricity installed in the area of dense energy consumption like traditional market and underground shopping center. In order to prevent and respond accident risks related to gas and electricity in this area, it should be monitored and predicted for factors of gas leak or electricity by developing safety management system. This study is about accident prediction model development considering fire risk factor related to gas accident. The temperature variation characteristic near a gas burner was analyzed. Also, accident prediction algorithm and related module were developed to prevent fire in the area of dense energy consumption.

A Study on the Seam Tracking by Using Image Processing (영상정보처리에 의한 용접선 추적에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, the use of Robot increase little by little for the purpose of developing a welding quality and productivity in the arc welding part. It is more important to contact the seam for arc welding before moving a welding robot. There are two types of method to contact the seam namely contact and noncontact type largely In this paper, image processing sensor(a kind of non-contact sensor) is concerned to track the seam by using laser diode and CCD camera. A structured laser diode's light illuminated on the weld groove and the reflected shape is introduced by CCD camera. The image board captures this image and software analyzes this image. The robot is moved and welded exactly as acquired image X-Y data is changed with robot's X-Y value. Also, most of seam tracking are considered by changing the program simply in case of the different weld prove of plane surface.

핵융합로 부품에 대한 고열유속 시험조건 결정

  • 고열부하 환경에 노출되는 핵융합로의 플라즈마 대향부품은 주로 낮은 원자번호 물질-열전도가 좋은 물질-구조체의 순으로 다층 구조를 이루고 있으며, 이들 간의 우수한 접합성은 부품의 성능을 좌우하는 핵심 요소이다. 이러한 플라즈마 대향부품의 건전성을 평가하기 위해서는 고열속의 열부하를 반복적으로 인가하는 시험이 요구되며, 이를 위해 본 연구원에서는 KoHLT-1, 2의 시험시설을 운용하고 있다. 본 시설에서는 열부하원으로서 그라파이터 히터를 사용하며, 히터는 두 개의 시험 대상부품 사이에 설치되고, 히터에 고전류를 인가하여 복사열에 의해 시험 부품에 열부하를 가하게 된다. 고열부하 환경에서 열피로 시험을 위해 히터에 인가되는 전류를 시간에 따라 일정한 패턴으로 반복적으로 ON-OFF 하게 된다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 고열부하시험을 수행함에 있어 고려해야 할 여러 가지 요소에 대해 논의하였다. 우선 인가하는 열유속(heat flux) 값은 일차적으로 시험시설의 최대 출력에 의해 좌우되며, 시험대상물의 운전조건 및 열부하 반복횟수에 의해 결정된다. 열부하 반복횟수는 주어진 열유속 값에 대해 total strain이 파단에 이르는 수준에 의해 결정된다. 열부하를 인가하는 시간은 히터에 전류를 인가했을 때 요구되는 온도로 상승하는 데 걸리는 시간과 시험대상물의 온도가 더 이상 증가하지 않는데 걸리는 시간에 의해 좌우된다. 냉각시간은 길수록 시험대상물의 온도가 냉각수의 온도에 접근하게 되나 너무 길어지면 시험시간이 급격히 증가하게 되므로, 온도 감소 곡선을 검토하여 적절한 시간을 정하게 된다. 열유속 측정은 냉각수의 온도 상승값과 유량으로부터 계산하게 되며, 정확한 측정을 위해서는 열부하를 인가하는 시간이 충분히 길어야 한다. 또한 시험대상 부품에서 열부하가 인가되는 면적을 정확히 정의해야 하며, 냉각관로에 열부하가 인가되어서는 않된다. 또한 시험대상부품을 지지하는 지지구조체를 통한 열손실을 최소화해야 정확한 열유속을 측정할 수 있다. 시험대상부품을 설치할 때 히터와의 간격 또한 결정해야 할 중요한 요소이며, 간격이 좁을수록 최대 열유속 값을 증가시킬 수 있으나, 너무 가까운 경우 히터의 열변형에 의한 접촉 및 아크 방전의 가능성이 있으며, 이 경우 히터와 시험대상부품의 손상을 가져오게 된다. 시험대상물이 국제열핵융합로(ITER)의 일차벽과 같이 베릴륨이 포함되어 있는 경우 방전에 의한 손상은 인체에 유해한 오염의 원인이 될 수 있다. 또한 순간적인 방전은 고가의 고전류전원의 고장을 유발할 수도 있다. 열부하 시험 중 시험대상물의 온도를 정확히 측정하는 것은 필수적이며, 온도 변화 곡선으로부터 시험대상물의 건전성 여부를 판단할 수 있다. 이를 위해 변화를 가장 잘 탐지 할 수 있는 위치에 온도 센서를 설치하는 것이 관건이며, 이는 사전 분석을 통해 알 수 있다.
