  • The purpose of this paper is to examine some effects of four menu types: icon menu, icontext menu, pulldown menu, and bar selection menu. Each have been mainly used with hypermedia instruction, learners' metacognition on their errors, menu search time, and scholastic achievements. A further purpose of this paper is suggest some strategies for enabling each learner to select menus more efficiently in order to enhance the learner's own learning effectiveness in hypermedia instruction. There were 100 college students selected as subjects for This study. They had never had experience in Hanoi hypermedia instruction. They were required to use four menu types at random in this experiement. The results of this study are as follows. The menu types had a significant effect on the low metacognition regulation group. Icontext menu types, especially, had a significant effect on achievements. In constrast to this, the menu types did not have any significant effect on the high metacognition regulation group.

  • It is difficult to figure out the specific contents of the buildings in the internet spatial area, since those data on the internet present only the location of buildings and the outlines of lands on which buildings are located, An experimental study for the view management of building information at internet urban spatial area was conducted on the Web-GIS based map using hyper map. With the building information on the 2-D map, modified from the previous numerical map and the regional building information and additional information, a new form of building through 3-D icons was shown on the internet spatial area. This study shows the Web-based building management system, which is designed to manage attribute data about hyper-linked buildings of 2.5-D icons and to reproduce visual building information by putting a variety of information into hyper-linked icons on the hyper map. This system not only complements the lack of consistency between real buildings and those on the map, but also provides users with more familiar urban space, so that everybody can utilize the building information as long as he has access to the internet.

Study on Impact of GUI Design Elements of Mobile Phone on Brand Preference With focus on senior citizens (모바일 폰의 GUI 디자인의 구성요소가 브랜드 선호도에 미치는 영향 실버세대를 중심으로)

  • This study has established the GUI design elements of mobile phones as color, text, layout, graphic icon, and video, under the purpose of exploring the relevance between such elements and brand preference among senior citizens. To accomplish the objective, a model and hypotheses were established, which were tested through a multiple regression analysis. The findings are as follows. First, when the statistical significance was examined by GUI design element of mobile phones, the following results were obtained: Color, text, layout, graphic icon, and video were statistically significant at the significance level given, indicating that such elements all affect brand preference. Second, the relative influence of GUI design elements of mobile phones on brand preference was revealed in the following order: text, color, video, graphic icon, layout. It indicates that boosting the brand preference of senior citizens for mobile phones requires considering 'text' and 'color' first before any other element. In addition, as the influence of 'text' and 'color' becomes greater, the brand preference also becomes higher.

  • A ship can be considered as a large human-machine system and the interaction between worker and system affects the work performance and its efficiency. In the bridge if a ship, there exist many auditory signals as well as visual signals. However, only a few studies have been performed related to human recognition to alarm systems in the bridge. In this study, auditory icons and abstract sounds are compared to find more effective means if alarm systems. The study result shows that auditory icons are recognized faster than n abstract sounds. The result is expected to be use as a basic data for developing performance criteria q auditory display inside bridge and for designing integrated ship bridge alarm system.

A Study on the Special Characters as UX/UI Icon Design Elements (UX/UI 아이콘 디자인 요소로서 특수 문자 체계 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to organize the system of special characters as UX/UI icon design elements, thus laying the groundwork for improvement direction for unclear use regulations. This study examines the theoretical background of UX/UI design and special characters and discovers UX/UI design and special characters' relations and assignments. Besides, the case study summarizes the system of special characters being utilized in the company's UX/UI icon design guidelines to produce the study results. As a result of the analysis, the special character types being utilized in UX/UI were graphic characters, mathematical symbols, punctuation marks, and parentheses. And the special characters commonly used in analysis cases, iOS, Android, and Windows, are ▶, ♥, ★, ○, ⊙, +, ×, ⋯. So this study organizes the common characters to standardize them. Hopefully, this study contributes to increasing the interest in the study of 'special characters' in the UX/UI design field and helps establish a framework for future industrial standards.
