The effect of parental self-esteem on children's emotional responsiveness and attention: through the child's self-esteem (부모의 자아존중감이 학령전기 아동의 정서적 반응성과 주의집중에 미치는 영향: 아동의 자아존중감의 매개효과)

  • This study was conducted to analyze the effects of parents' self-esteem on preschool aged children's emotional responses and attention, mediated by their self-esteem, utilizing data from the 7th Panel Study of Korean Children. This study analyzed the main survey of the 7th year survey of the Panel Study on Korean Children and 1383 families from which both parents participated in the survey (1383 couples of parents and 1383 children). The results revealed that mother's self-esteem had a direct effect on children's self-esteem and that children's self-esteem had direct effects on their emotional responses and attention. Mother's self-esteem also had direct effects on children's emotional responses and attention, as well as indirect effects on their emotional responsiveness and attention, and these effects were mediated by parents' self-esteem. Overall, the study revealed the impact of parents' self-esteem on children's emotional responsiveness and attention and provided basic data for the development of an education program for preschool aged children and parents. Thus, it is necessary to develop educational programs to improve preschool aged children's self-esteem and to develop a program for the formation and maintenance of mother's positive self-esteem.

The Effect of Child-rearing Attitude and Parent-child Communication on Self-Esteem of Children (부모의 양육태도, 아동과의 의사소통이 아동의 자아존중감에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was designed to identify the factor contributing to self-esteem of children. Based on the survey results, it was found that the major factors influencing Self-esteem include school record(${\beta}=-.15$, p<.001), communication with mother(${\beta}=.31$, p<.001), child-rearing attitude(${\beta}=.16$, p=.002). These factors explained 32.6% of the self-esteem of children. Therefore these factors should be considered in the educational programs for development of children's self-esteem.

Mediating Effect of Self-esteem between Children's Perceived Parenting Style and Health Promoting Behavior of School-Aged Children (학령후기 아동이 지각한 부모의 양육태도와 건강증진행위 관계에서 자아존중감의 매개효과 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the relationships among school-aged children's perceived parenting style, children's self-esteem, health promoting behavior and to determine whether self-esteem was a the mediator of the relationship between parenting style and health promoting behavior. Participants were 425 school-aged children of 5th and 6th grade. Data were analyzed using t-tests, Pearson correlation, and hierarchical multiple regression. The child's health promoting behavior was positively associated with receptive parenting style and positively associated with self-esteem. Also, the results showed that the effect of receptive parenting style on health promoting behavior was significantly partially mediated by self-esteem. Therefore, parenting style and children's self-esteem need to be factored in when designing and applying health education program for school-aged children. Also, the program need to be designed to enhance receptive parenting style that can lead to children's increase self-esteem.

Relationship and Distribution between Self-Esteem and Differentiation of Self of Children Using Community Child Center (지역아동센터 이용아동의 자아존중감과 자아분화간의 관계성과 분포)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between self-esteem and differentiation of self, and to identify the degree of self-esteem and differentiation of self. Data were collected from 151 elementary school students using community child center. Factor analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis, regression analysis, and cluster analysis were performed. The results of the study are as follows: First, as a result of factor analysis, differentiation of self was classified into differentiation of internal mind, other's and self oriented. Self-esteem was classified into isolation, achievement, relation, and daunted. Second, regression analysis indicated that there was obvious relationship between self-esteem and the differentiation of self. Third, cluster analysis showed that 37.6% of children belonged to cluster 2 with achievement and relation patterns and self-oriented differentiation. Forty-three percent were belonged to cluster 1 with isolated and daunted self-esteem as well as internal mind and other's oriented differentiation. In cluster 3, 19.4% were belonged and their levels of self-esteem and the differentiation of self were very low. Findings indicate that for those children belonged to cluster 1 and 3, programs to raise the self-esteem of children and parental education are needed.

Path analysis on child abuse and neglect, self-esteem, and consciousness of human rights among children at community children centers (지역아동센터 아동이 인식한 방임과 학대, 자아존중감, 그리고 인권의식의 경로분석연구)

  • As child neglect and abuse have emerged as social problems deteriorating human rights of children, this study aimed to examine the impacts of child neglect and abuse at community children centers on consciousness of human rights. In addition, this study examined whether self-esteem mediated the relationship between child neglect and abuse and consciousness of human rights. From the community children center panel data, 630 fifth-year children at elementary schools were included as a sample. Key findings of structural equation modeling can be summarized as follows: (1) Child neglect and abuse were found to have negative impacts on children's self-esteem and consciousness of human rights, respectively; (2) self-esteem was positively related to consciousness; (3) self-esteem partially mediated the relationship between child neglect and consciousness; (4) the impact of child abuse on consciousness of human rights was found to be perfectly mediated by self-esteem. We conclude by suggesting policy and practice implications to promote human right-friendly environments.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of integrated art therapy on the self-esteem of children who experienced domestic violence. In order to find out whether there is an effect, we used the nonparametric statistic as a quantitative study to verify the difference of self-esteem. In qualitative research, I used the dynamic familyization, sentence completion test, program report, feedback journal, and observation log from researcher and assistant therapist so as to get the deep understanding of their inner world. This study conducted a trauma test for 49 children in grades 4-6 from one elementary school in a city of Jeollabukdo Province. As a result, there was a significant increase in total self-esteem including their social life. family life, and school life after the program was implemented. Also, integrated art therapy promoted general perception and specific perception of self, which affected total self - esteem, social self - esteem, family self - esteem, and school self-esteem. So, it improves the self-esteem of children who have experienced domestic violence, In order to improve peer relations and interpersonal relations, if integrated art therapy is carried out in schools or institutions in the future, it will be possible to reduce social cost and distance.

Differences and Effect of After-School Class Experiences on Elementary Students' Sociality and Self-Esteem (초등학생의 방과후교실 이용 여부에 따른 사회성과 자아존중감의 차이 및 영향요인 분석)

  • This study takes the position that present after-school classes affect the development of children's sociality and self-esteem, and aims at comparing, analyzing and grasping the differences in sociality and self-esteem of the children who attend after-school classes and those of the children who don't. First, when the differences of sociality were analyzed between the children going to after-school classes and those who weren't, it was revealed that those who attended after-school classes had rather lower level of sociality than those who didn't, but there were no statistically meaningful differences. Second, when the differences of self-esteem in regard to whether children took after-school classes or not were examined, those who were taking after-school classes were analyzed to have lower self-esteem than those who weren't. The study results showed that the children who went to after-school classes had lower sociality and self-esteem compared to those who didn't. Taking this fact into consideration, different ways should be found to improve their sociality and self-esteem. In addition, programs need to be developed and introduced so that after-school classes can not only fulfill their original purposes of protecting and guiding children, but also continuously elevate and maintain children's sociality and self-esteem.

The Mediating Effect of Self-Esteem in the Relationship between Discrimination Experience and School Life Maladjustment at Community Child Center (지역아동센터 이용 아동의 차별경험과 학교생활부적응 관계에서 자아존중감의 매개효과)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of self-esteem on relationships between experience of discrimination and school life maladjustment. This study utilized 648 elementary school students who participated in Community Child Center Children's Panel Survey. Collected data was analyzed through correlation analysis and regression analysis using SPSS Win 21.0 statistical program. First, the experience of being discriminated and discriminating against others were positively related school life maladjustment but were negatively related self-esteem. Second, self-esteem had partially mediated school life maladjustment during discriminating against others. And self-esteem had totally mediated school life maladjustment during being discriminated. Based on these results, this study discusses practical implications for preventing discrimination of children attending community child center.

The Effects of Stress of Children Using Community Child Centers on Life Satisfaction & Mediating Effects of Self-esteem (지역아동센터 이용 아동의 스트레스가 생활만족도에 미치는 영향과 자아존중감의 매개효과)

  • We aimed that increasing the life satisfaction of children using the Community Child Centers, starting from the interest in healthy growth and development of children. The research was conducted to analyze the effect of stress on the life satisfaction of children using the local children center and the mediated effect of self-esteem. The subjects of this study are 438 children who were surveyed in 2017. They were originally extracted from the 2nd survey of Community Child Center. For data analysis purposes, SPSS 250 and SPSS PROCESS macro v2.16 were used. The results of this study are as followed. Firstly, school stress has direct influence on life satisfaction, but it has no indirect effect on life satisfaction through self-esteem. Secondly, friend stress and consumption stress have no direct influence on life satisfaction, but they have indirect effect on life satisfaction through self-esteem. On the basis of the results, this study provided the social welfare policy and practical suggestions to reduce school stress and to enhance self-esteem, which are the key to achieving the life satisfaction of children.

The effect of psychomotor by the emotional behavior disorder(ADHD) children on the improvement of Self-esteem, Depression or Hyperactivity in terms of convergence (심리운동프로그램의 참여가 융합적 차원에서 정서·행동장애아동의 자아존중감과 우울감 및 과잉행동에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of psychomotor by the emotional behavior disorder children(ADHD) on the improvement of Self-esteem, Depression or Hyperactivity. From the results, there was no significant difference of the main effect between groups about the improvement of Self-esteem, Depression but that of Hyperactivity. About Self-esteem, Depression, Hyperactivity, there was significant difference of the main effect between prior and post and significant difference of the interaction effects between groups and periods. In conclusion, we can know psychomotor program have a positive effect on the improvement of Self-esteem, Depression or Hyperactivity for emotional behavior disorder children(ADHD). Considering that psychomotor, regarding convergence, may have a positive effect on the ADHD children's emotional development, not only motion development, we suggest the emotional behavior disorder children(ADHD) may have to continue to participate in the Psychomotor Activities.
