  • Employing an ethnographic approach, this case study analyzed the psychological welfare of 2 teenage and one early-twenties heads of family. The subjects were Sun-Ju (female, age 22, seamstress), Ji-Hyun (female, age 14, junior high school student), and Seung-Hwan (male, age 16, junior high school student). This study was processed between 9 March 1996 and 11 May 1996. The results show that teenage and early-twenties heads of family have ambivalent feelings, meaning two extreme psychological conditions that are not consistent. Three types of teenage-early twenties heads of family ambivalence were caused by diverse role dimensions (e.g., nursing, supporter, beneficiary, and independent subject roles). Revision of the present welfare system, particularly the protection system For teenage-early twenties heads of family was recommended. Further research is also needed to determine various factors harmful to their psychological welfare.

  • The purpose of this study is to classify the underlying and parsimonious types of child maltreatment and examine whether the effects of risk factors on child maltreatment recurrence differ by type of maltreatment. We utilized the multiyear national administrative data from the National Child Maltreatment Information System collected by Child Protection Agency in Korea. Of 26,921 child maltreatment victims reported and substantiated on or after January 1, 2012, 1,447 children who had recurrence of child maltreatment until December 31, 2015 were selected as maltreatment recurrence group and 4,580 children who had not experienced maltreatment since first substantiation were assigned as maltreatment non-recurrence group. Latent class analysis(LCA) and latent transition analysis(LTA) were used to group children with similar maltreatment subtypes into discrete classes of child maltreatment recurrence. Logistic regression is employed to examine the association between the child maltreatment predominant types and risk factors for recurrence. Results of LCA and LTA showed four latent classes representing predominant type of child maltreatment: 'physical abuse predominant type', 'emotional abuse predominant type', 'sexual abuse predominant type', and 'neglect type'. Significant differences in the effect of risk factors among latent classes were found in child's age and gender, perpetrator's gender, family poverty, biological parent as the perpetrator, domestic violence toward partner, perpetrator's alcoholic problem, insufficient parenting skills, and out-of-home care service, Based on these findings, results suggested how the typology can be used to guide decision about who to target in prevention and intervention programs, and which features of risk factors to target. Practice and policy implications as well as further research tasks were discussed in the lights of searching for useful and important strategies to prevent recurrence of child maltreatment.

  • This study is to see the problem of child abuse as a social problem and sees that the society as a whole needs to find a solution and suggest solutions. The results of this study are as follows. First, legal supplement should be given priority. This can be solved through legal amendments to relevant laws and legislative amendments. Second, institutional complement should be done. Physical and psychological treatment is more urgent for school children than school education for victim child. In the future, children's welfare facilities should be expanded to include child counseling centers for children who are living in homes rather than nursing homes but who have problematic behaviors and treatment facilities for children who need professional treatment. Third, measures should be taken against abused children. Results of action for affected children include home care, separation protection, home return, and death.

  • Reckless use of the Internet by children is a barrier to daily life and has a negative impact on children's physical, psychological and relational aspects. But more and more children depend on the Internet. Thus, the study conducted a meta-analysis to examine the effectiveness of group programs that involve Internet addiction among elementary school students. The study analyzed 18 studies of a local Internet group counseling program. First, the overall effectiveness of Internet-dependent group programs that cause Internet addiction reduction in elementary school students is shown to be g=0.90, indicating that group counseling programs are effective in reducing Internet addiction and changing related variables. Second, as a result of verifying differences between groups, there were differences in effectiveness in voluntary participation motivations. Therefore, intervention by elementary school students requires preventive training for smart phones so that voluntary participation can occur, and education for parents to develop autonomy for children to use smartphones properly. And rather than making these efforts limited to smart phones, IT retriever education needs to be organized.

  • This study recognizes that the externalizing problem behaviors of child with disabilities are the result of the social interaction between mother and child, and empirically verifies its systematic causal structure and multidimensional influence relationship. It was attempted to derive practical implications that can help the smooth normalization process of children's families. Therefore, 135 children with disabilities and their mothers selected by convenience sampling were targeted, and in the relationship between maternal overprotective parenting and externalizing behaviors of child, effortful control was used as a mediating variable, and defense style of mothers and children was used as a moderating variable. A Conditional Process Analysis(CPA) that can verify the moderated mediation Effect was performed by establishing a research model. As a result of the analysis, first, the overprotective parenting behavior of mother was statistically significant in both direct and indirect effects in increasing externalizing behaviors of child, and the mediation effect by effortful control was also statistically significant. Second, it was confirmed that the moderated mediation effect of effortful control by the mother's defense style was statistically significant, and the moderated mediation effect of effortful control by the child's defense style was not statistically significant. Based on the above results, assuming the importance of the influence of maternal parenting, a direct strategy for change in maternal overprotective parenting, child's Practical implications of parallel strategies with the tendency toward effective control and suboptimal strategies through the application of mothers' coping strategies were discussed.

  • The purpose of this study was (a) to identify latent profiles among employed Korean mothers of third graders based on work-family conflict, work-family enrichment, work-parenting conflict, and work-parenting enrichment, (b) to examine the antecedents of profile membership at the individual, family, work, and community levels, and (c) to investigate the differences in the various psychological outcomes across the profiles. The sample of 451 married employed mothers was a subset of data from the 10th Wave of the Panel Study of Korean Children, which was collected in 2017 when the focal child was in the third grade. Our latent profile analysis suggested a three-profile model that comprised enriched (11.91%), moderate (47.85%), and mixed (40.24%) profiles. The significant antecedents of profile membership were subjective health status, the child's adjustment to school, working hours, the community's suitability for childrearing, and satisfaction with community service facilities. Regarding psychological outcomes, the levels of life satisfaction, marital satisfaction, and job satisfaction were higher in the following order: enriched, moderate, and mixed profiles. The levels of depressive symptoms were in the reverse order: mixed, moderate, and enriched profiles. This study contributes to a comprehensive understanding of the literature on work-family interactions by considering various predictors and outcomes at multiple levels.

  • This study aimed to provide basic data for the promotion of flourishing by analyzing whether welfare and hope mediated and double-mediated in the relationship between boss incivility and flourishing with 400 childcare teachers. The subjects of the survey were collected through offline questionnaires. The data were analysed using SPSS PC+ Win ver. 25.0 and PROCESS macro. Frequency, reliability, correlation, and double mediation effect analysis were performed. As a result of the study, first, experience of incivility from bosses showed a negative correlation with welfare, hope, and flourishing. welfare, hope and flourishing showed a positive correlation with each other. Second, welfare and hope played a double mediating role in the relationship between boss and co-worker incivility and flourishing. Welfare and hope played a role in partially offsetting the negative (-) effect of incivility on flourishing. The conclusion of this study confirmed that the promotion of flourishing can be promoted by using the dual mediating role of welfare and hope.
