  • Today many people are greatly interested in the environment. Especially increasing affluent of food causes a great amount of food waste. To handle this effectively, we now have a lot of problems of disposing garbage all over the world. In Korea, in order to reduce this garbage, we should use a standard plastic garbage bag in which we have to throw away our garbage. So it has an effect on significantly reducing the waste amount every year. Now, there are a lot of cases that residents use several times a standard plastic garbage bag. The purpose of this study is to develop the recognition device preventing the re-cycling of a standard plastic garbage bag. As a result, we obtain 1% error rate.

  • As the size of embedded system software increase bigger and bigger, and it's complexity is grower and grower, the usage of dynamic memory management scheme such collector also has been increased. Using the garbage collector, however, inherently lead us performance degradation. In order to resolve this kind of performance problem in the Java based embedded system. we introduce an explicit dynamic memory free method to the automated dynamic memory management environment. which can be performed by a programmer. In the worst case, the prosed scheme shows the same performance as the case of that only garbage collector is working, since the unclaimed garbage objects will eventually be collected later by the garbage collector. In the best case. our method is free from any runtime overhead because the applications can be implemented without any intervention of the garbage collector. Although the proposed method can be facilitated with all the existing garbage collection algorithms, it shows an outperform in the case of mark-and-sweep algorithm.

  • The Internet of Things (IoT) technology allows devices connected to the Internet to exchange information without human intervention, and to provide useful services to people. Currently, garbage trucks are regularly dispatched to collect garbage. In such a case, garbage may be less than half of the garbage collection capacity in some area, and garbage may be exceeded in another area so that garbage trucks can not collect all at once. In this paper, we have studied the method of estimating the amount of garbage to be collected and describe the development contents of the product and management system. The prediction of garbage volume was made possible by using IoT technology to measure the volume of garbage in real time. In addition, the measurement values are visibly displayed through the dashboard, so that the amount of garbage generated can be predicted and managed. This will allow IoT technology to help keep street hygiene.

Exploring Residents' Attitudes in Multifamily Housing Toward Food Waste Zero-Emission System with Fermentation and Extinction Technology (발효·소멸 기술을 이용한 음식물 쓰레기 무배출 시스템에 대한 공동주택 거주자의 태도에 관한 분석)

  • As environmental sustainability becomes a key consideration in policy-making, more responsible consumption and utilization in daily life concern both health and quality of life. To address inequities in health in relation to environments, waste management has taken more progressive ways, and one of them is biomass-to-energy conversion that utilizes energy recovery from food waste. By extension, a food waste zero-emission system using fermentation and extinction technology gains much attention, so that this study is designed to examine residents' attitudes toward recycling food waste produced at home and toward food waste zero-emission system. Utilizing a survey questionnaire, this research collected data from 400 individual units of multifamily housing estates nationwide, and the data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The findings indicate that food waste generated at home was highly water-contained and produced in the stage of food preparation before cooking while respondents viewed that food waste collection and treatment needed to be improved. It's noted that respondents strongly supported the use of food waste as a energy source and would have the use of the food waste zero-emission system built in kitchen sink. Regression analysis showed that educational attainment of housewives, cooking style, and planning food purchase were statistically significant factors in the attitude of the responded residents toward recycling food waste while none of the factors were in the attitude toward the food waste zero-emission system.

Characteristics of Marine Debris collected from the Coastline of Sandbar in the Nakdong River Estuary (낙동강 하구 사주 해안에서 수거한 쓰레기 종류 및 분포량 추정)

  • This study investigated the spatial distribution of the marine debris in Jinudo in the Nakdong river estuary. Types of marine debris in Jinudo are analyzed through sampling around some portion of its sandbar shoreline. The present study and its main results are summarized as follow: 1) Monitoring system, for evaluating the volume of marine debris, was established in the coastal region of $50\;m\;{\times}\;50\;m\;(=0.002\;km^2)$ over the southern part of Jinudo. All the marine debris of conceivable form are collected and their amount was also estimated. 2) During the $1^{st}$ collection in May 2007, the total weight of the marine debris was 1,110 kg in this site, which means the density of marine debris around the shoreline is $444\;ton/km^2$. After one month later, the collected marine debris was 23.75 kg and so we have the average density of $9.5\;ton/km^2$. From these results, it is suggested that the marine debris of 316.67kg was being accumulated per day over unit area($1\;km^2$). 3) The most frequent marine debris collected during monitoring campaigns was wooden material amounting to 85.86% of the whole collection; the rest were fishing gears such as nets and buoys(5.13%), household waste(2.34%), glass(0.94%) and metals(0.27%).

  • This study was conducted to analysis citizen's attitude and style to the foodwaste from loth Sept. to 30th Sept. in 1996. The research was used questionare method and the analysis was used prequency analysis and cross table method by SPSS (scientific statistics). they answered that the most serious environment problem was waste problem and the best way to settle waste problem was to reduce waste production itself. And they answered that to settle environment problems, it was most important for us to change our life style. But It was not agreed between consciousness and action(execution). Because most of the food-related waste was among household waste, it's settlement was the most importment thing than any other. Nevertheless the seperation of waste was essential to effective incineration, the seperation process was not actually conducted and only a few housewife knew the difference of incinerable and non-incinerable waste. The recycling for the disused dry-cells and garbage is not completly. But we think that if the effective government's recycling counterplan for wastes, foodwaste or wasted dry cell, etc., is estabilished, rates of seperation and collection was increasing. Much usuage of onetime vinyl bag for shopping was become the one of the main cause in increasing the package waste, and so it was needed to use the longlife shopping basket.

  • 일반적인 다목적댐은 홍수 발생 시 본댐으로 유입되는 부유쓰레기 및 잡목 등을 차단하기 위하여 댐 상류에 차단망을 설치하여 1차적으로 사전 방지하고, 홍수기 이후 선박으로 부유물을 수거하여 재활용, 소각 등으로 처리하는 시스템이다. 그러나 본 연구의 대상인 한탄강댐은 홍수조절용 댐으로서 수위 변화 폭이 매우 크고 정상 조건(비 홍수기)시는 대규모 홍수터가 드러나기 때문에 댐 유지관리 방법이 상이하며 한탄강 본류 구간은 하폭과 수심 등 하도의 불규칙성과 만곡부에서 유수의 흐름이 한쪽으로 쏠리는 편기 현상이 발생하는 등 복잡한 수리현상으로 인하여 부유쓰레기의 분포를 판단하기 어려운 지역이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 부유쓰레기의 유동을 모의하기 위하여 HEC-HMS 모형과 $Vflo^{TM}$ 모형을 활용하여 본류와 지류의 빈도별 홍수량 분석을 실시하고, EFDC 3차원 동수역학 모형을 적용하여 홍수조절용지 내 부유쓰레기의 유입 경로 및 정체 구역을 분석하여 효과적인 쓰레기 처리 방안을 제시하고자 하였다. 분석 결과, 소규모 빈도 홍수(2년, 5년)의 경우 중 상류 지류의 부유쓰레기는 거의 유동하지 못하고 하도의 만곡의 영향을 받아 부분적으로 높은 밀도로 고착될 것으로 모의되며, 특히 본류와의 합류점 부근에 도달한 부유쓰레기는 유로 폭이 급확대되어 유속이 거의 없는 사수역 구간으로 변함에 따라 본류 배수위 영향으로 불규칙하게 맴돌다가 고착되는 것으로 모의되었다. 중규모 홍수(25년, 50년)의 경우, 상류부의 부유쓰레기의 분포는 소규모 홍수 시와 유사한 패턴을 보였으나 중류부에서 홍수파가 본류 하도를 월류하여 홍수터로 넓게 범람하는 지역에서는 소규모 홍수 시 본류 하도 양안에 분포하던 부유쓰레기가 홍수터 쪽으로 밀려가서 고착되는 경향을 보였다. 대규모 홍수(100년, 200년)의 경우, 댐과 인접한 분석 구간 하류부는 댐 배수위의 영향을 가장 크게 받으며 수심이 깊어 흐름이 가장 정체되는 구간으로 본류와 지류 모두 다량의 부유쓰레기가 분포할 것으로 분석되었다. 분석 구간 중류부는 홍수 규모가 증가함에 따라 넓은 홍수터로 침수범위가 급격하게 증가하며 이에 따라 부유쓰레기가 분포할 수 있는 면적이 크게 증가할 것으로 분석되었다. 또한 분석 구간 상류부는 협곡을 이루고 있어 홍수규모가 증가하더라도 침수범위와 부유쓰레기의 분포면적에 큰 변화가 없을 것으로 분석되었다. 본 연구 결과를 바탕으로 댐의 치수 문제가 발생하지 않도록 효과적으로 수거 처리 할 수 있는 부유쓰레기 적치장 및 차단 시설의 적정 설치 위치를 파악하였다.

A Study on Foodwaste Pretreatment for Anaerobic Digestion (혐기성 소화를 위한 음식물쓰레기 전처리 방안에 관한 기초연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effective pretreatment of foodwaste for the anaerobic digestion. Considering the foodwaste generation and the anaerobic digester for municipal wastewater sludges, the some pretreatment processes were performed such as the grinding of foodwastes with the addition of water, the mixing with sludges, and the hydrolysis with the addition of NaOH. The results were as followings ; 1. As the stage of feasibility test in laboratory scale, the foodwaste grinding using a household garbage disposer was performed with three different water mixing ratios of 1:1, 1:5 and 1:9 as weight base. The physicochemical characteristics of grinded foodwaste were analyzed and the effective conditions was recommended as the 1 :5mixing ratio of foodwaste and water and the below 8mm particle size. 2. And the mixing of foodwaste and municipal wastewater sludge was studied with three different mixing ratios of 1:9, 3:7 and 5:5 as weight base. The physicochemical characteristics of the mixed foodwaste and sludges were analyzed and the effective mixing ratio was recommended as 3:7 of foodwaste and sludge.

  • Product design should reflect environment and experience of use in consideration of product's role as well as roles in life. In doing so, it is expected to realize interaction between product's role and users. Therefore, design of a recycling bin should also consider not only colors, shape, or materials but also process and experience of use. This study was conducted targeting public recycling bins in Beijing. As for the study method, first concept of a recycling bin was defined while specifying significance of recycling in Beijing City. Also, advanced research on recycling related policies that are currently being promoted was carried out. Second, current status of recycling in Beijing and problems of recycling bins were analyzed through on-campus survey. Lastly, users' psychological demand on a recycling bin was assessed and analyzed to suggest developmental direction of recycling bin design in the future.

음식물쓰레기의 고온호기성처리시 보조열량원의 첨가에 따른 효과

  • 본 연구에서는 음식물쓰레기를 고온호기성공정으로 처리시 수분증발량을 증대시키기위한 보조열량원으로 대두유를 첨가할 경우의 음식물쓰레기의 감량화 특성을 고찰하였으며, 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 음식물쓰레기부하를 50kg/$m^3$ d, 열량원으로 대두유를 0%, 5%, 10%, 15% 각각 첨가한 중량제거율에 근거한 음식물쓰레기 제거효율은 0% 첨가시는 94.5%, 5% 첨가시 97.6%, 10% 첨가시 91.7%, 15% 첨가시 87.2%로 나타났다. 대두유 첨가에 따른 열량비는 C/W비로 0.67, 1.52, 2.37, 3.21이었으며, 대두유를 5% 첨가한 경우의 음식물쓰레기 제거효율이 높은 것으로 판단되었고 고온호기성공정으로 음식물쓰레기를 처리할 경우 적정한 C/W비는 1.52인 것을 확인 할 수 있었다.
