Noncontact Respiration and Heartbeat Monitoring System using the Doppler Radar System (2.4GHz 도플러 레이더를 이용한 비접촉 방식의 심박 및 호흡 모니터링 시스템)

  • 본 연구에서는 비접촉 방식으로 심박과 호흡을 측정하기 위해 2.4GHz 대역에서 동작하는 도플러 레이더 센서와 베이스밴드 모듈로 구성된 도플러 레이더 시스템을 설계하고 그 성능을 평가하였다. 설계된 도플러 레이더 시스템은 심폐활동에 의한 흉부 표면의 움직임에 의해 반사되는 레이더의 위상변화를 이용하여 심폐 활동을 측정한다. 도플러 레이더 센서의 출력은 베이스 밴드 모듈의 전처리 필터부, 증폭부, 오프셋 조정부를 통과하여 호흡과 심박 신호로 분리된다. 분리된 생체신호는 기존의 생체신호와 상관성을 확인하기 위해 기준신호로 호흡과 심전도를 동시에 측정하여 그 결과를 비교 및 분석하였다. 설계된 도플러 레이더 시스템에서 분리된 호흡 및 심박 신호는 측정 대상의 움직임이 없는 상태에서는 높은 검출률을 보였으며, 도플러 레이더에서 심박과 호흡 신호를 검출한 결과 거리, 호흡과 심박의 변이량, 호흡과 심박대역에 따라 검출률이 영향을 받는다는 것을 알 수 있었다.

  • 심전도는 심장의 전기적인 활동을 나타내는 지표로, 심장활동 및 자율 신경계를 관찰하기 위해 R 파형의 간격을 측정함으로써 심박변이도를 추출할 수 있다. 심박변이도는 자율신경계의 관찰 이외에도 급성 심근경색의 예후판정이나 심장급사 예견, 당뇨병 관찰, 감성 및 스트레스 평가 등 다양한 분야에서 활용되고 있다. 그러나 심전도의 추출해야하는 과정을 거쳐야 하기 때문에, 임상적인 목적이 아닐시에도 3 전극을 몸에 부착하여 측정하는 것은 심박변이도에 대한 접근성을 떨어뜨리고 있다. 본 연구에서는 심박변이도의 측정을 위하여 수정된 방식의 라플라시안 전극을 설계하고 이를 이용해 심박변이도의 측정 및 분석을 함으로써 접근성 높은 새로운 심박변이도 측정용 전극에 대해 제시하였다.

Robust Extraction of Heartbeat Signals from Mobile Facial Videos (모바일 얼굴 비디오로부터 심박 신호의 강건한 추출)

  • This paper proposes an improved heartbeat signal extraction method for ballistocardiography(BCG)-based heart-rate measurement on mobile environment. First, from a mobile facial video, a handshake-free head motion signal is extracted by tracking facial features and background features at the same time. Then, a novel signal periodicity computation method is proposed to accurately separate out the heartbeat signal from the head motion signal. The proposed method could robustly extract heartbeat signals from mobile facial videos, and enabled more accurate heart rate measurement (measurement errors were reduced by 3-4 bpm) compared to the existing method.

The Effect of Boxing Aerobic Exercise Training on Heart Rate Variability in Rest (복싱에어로빅 운동이 안정 시 심박수변이도에 미치는 영향)

  • The Purpose of this study was to examine the effects of boxing aerobic training on resting heart rate variability (HRV) in females. The subjects for this study were performed 16 female college students that aged 19-23. The subjects were divided into two groups; boxing aerobic exercise group (9 students) and control group (7 students). Boxing aerobic training program was performed three times a week for twelve weeks with $VO_{2max}$ 60-80% exercise intensity. The results of this study were following; 1. Mean HRT (mean heart rate) had no signigicant difference among the groups and exercise time. 2. SDNN (standard deviation of the normal to normal interval) had no significant difference among the group and exercise time. 3. RMS-SD (square root of the mean squared differences of successive normal to normal interval) had no significant difference among the groups and exercise time. 4. TP (total power) had no significant difference among the groups and exercise time. 5. LF (low frequency) had no significant difference among the groups and exercise time. 6. HF (high frequency) had no significant difference among the groups and exercise time. 7. LF/HF (low frequence/high frequency ratio) had no significant difference among the groups and exercise time. 8. VLF (very low frequency) had no significant difference among the groups and exercise time.

Thirteen-year Experience of Permanent Epicardial Pacing in Children (소아연령군에서의 영구 심외막 심박 조율 13년 경험)

  • Background: We investigated the longevity, thresholds of epicardial pacemaker and causes of reoperation in the pediatric patients who underwent epicardial pacemaker implantation performed during the last 13 years Material and Method: 121 operations were performed in 83 patients from January 1989 to July 2002. We analyzed the stimulation threshold, resistance, R-wave and P-wave, and sensitivity of pacemaker lead at initial implantation. Longevity and causes of reoperations were investigated. Result At implantation, epicardial ventricular mean stimula-tion threshold was 1.2$\pm$0.1 (0.1∼5) mV, mean resistance was 519.1$\pm$18.1 (319∼778) Ohm, and mean R-wave sensitivity was 8.9$\pm$0.7 (4∼20) mV, and mean P wave sensivity was 2.5$\pm$0.7 (0.4∼12) mV. The mean longe-vity of pacemaker generator was 64.7$\pm$3.7 (2∼196) months. The reoperation free rate was 94.6% for 1 year, 93.6% for 2 years, 80.8% for 5years, 63.7% for 7 years, and 45.5% for 10 years. The causes of reoperation were battery waste in 26 cases and lead malfunction in 9 cases. There was no postoperative death related to pacemaker malfunction. Conclusion: in the childrens, average longevity of epicardial pacemaker was within accep-table range. 19.1% of the patients required pacemaker related reoperation. However, recent developments, including steroid eluting lead, 6.7% of the patients required pacemaker related reoperation, look promising in expansion of pacemaker life span.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation between sports incidence and heart rate variability in nationa lfemale judo athletes. Participants measured heart rate variability using the Autonomic Nervous System(SA-6000). Based on the average incidence of injury, sports injury incidence was classified into upper and lower groups. In addition, Pearson's Product Moment Correlation was performed to examine the correlation between the independent T-test, the number of sports injuries, and the heart rate variability. Heart rate variability was significantly different in total power and low frequency, and there was also significant difference in otal power and low frequency in the correlation analysis of heart rate variability according to the number of sports injuries. These data are expected to be useful as basic data for developing prevention injury programs.

Adaptive Detection of Unusual Heartbeat According to R-wave Distortion on ECG Signal (심전도 신호에서 R파 왜곡에 따른 적응적 특이심박 검출)

  • Arrhythmia electrocardiogram signal contains a specific unusual heartbeat with abnormal morphology. Because unusual heartbeat is useful for diagnosis and classification of various diseases, such as arrhythmia, detection of unusual heartbeat from the arrhythmic ECG signal is very important. Amplitude and kurtosis at R-peak point and RR interval are characteristics of ECG signal on R-wave. In this paper, we provide a method for detecting unusual heartbeat based on these. Through the value of the attribute deviates more from the average value if unusual heartbeat is more certainly, the proposed method detects unusual heartbeat in order using the mean and standard deviation. From 15 ECG signals of MIT-BIH arrhythmia database which has R-wave distortion, we compare the result of conventional method which uses the fixed threshold value and the result of proposed method. Throughout the experiment, the sensitivity is significantly increased to 97% from 50% using the proposed method.

  • When any part of the pacemaker system is infected, all pacemaker hardware should be removed, because reinfection rates of 51% to 77% have been noted in patients whose infected pacemaker system has been only partially explanted. The removal of infected leads during cardiopulmonary bypass prevents mechanical injury as well as the spread of infection and vegetation. We report one case of endocarditis by staphylococcus aureus with infected transvenous pacing lead which was migrated into the heart from the left subclavian vein. We removed the migrated pacing lead and vegetation under cardiopulmonary bypass.

  • Measuring the heart rate during exercise is important to properly control the amount of exercise. With the recent advent of smart device usage, there is a dramatic increase in interest in devices for the real-time measurement of the heart rate during exercise. During intensive exercise, accurate heart rate estimation from wrist-type photoplethysmography (PPG) signals is a very difficult problem due to motion artifact (MA). In this study, we propose an efficient algorithm for an accurate estimation of the heart rate from wrist-type PPG signals. For the twelve data sets, the proposed algorithm achieves the average absolute error of 1.38 beat per minute (BPM) and the Pearson correlation between the estimates and the ground-truth of heart rate was 0.9922. The proposed algorithm presents the strengths in an accurate estimation together with a fast computation speed, which is attractive in application to wearable devices.

PVC Detection Based on the Distortion of QRS Complex on ECG Signal (심전도 신호에서 QRS 군의 왜곡에 기반한 PVC 검출)

  • In arrhythmia ECG signal, abnormal beat that has various abnormal shape depending on the generation site and conduction disorders is included and it is very important to diagnose heart disease such as arrhythmia. In this paper, we propose a PVC abnormal beat detection algorithm associated with ventricular disease. The PVC abnormal beat is characterized by distortion of the QRS complex occurs among the components of the ECG signal. Therefore it is possible to detect PVC abnormal beat according to the degree of distortion of the QRS complex. First, quantify the distortion of the QRS complex by using the potential of the R-peak, kurtosis and period. By using the mean and standard deviation, PVC abnormal beat is detected depending on the degree of distortion from the normal beat. The proposed algorithm can detect the average over 98% of the AAMI-V class type abnormal beat associated with ventricular disease in MIT-BIH arrhythmia database.
