  • Yoga meditation and music therapy are considered to be appropriate for the spiritual and mental treatment for the patients and employed in many clinics and rehabilitation centers as an alternative medicine. This study aims at the analysis of the effects of yoga and music on the treatment of alcoholism. For this, yoga and music treatments were executed for the patients hospitalized in an alcohol clinic hospital in Gimhae district. Only the patients who were judged as alcohol dependents by a psychiatrist with a diagnostic criteria of DSM-IV participated in the study. During five weeks, from November 10, 2009 to December 29, yoga program was practiced two times per week, totaling 10 times, and music therapy was practiced one time per week, totaling 5 times. Among the patients participated in the programs, 44patients were selected finally. They are 16 patients who performed all the yoga programs, and 28 patients who fulfilled all the music therapies. A survey was conducted on them to estimate the effects of yoga and music treatments for the three cases of 'angry behavior', 'anger expression', and 'psychological state at interview'. The results show that yoga and music treatments have positive effects on the patients, although the statistical significance is not so great. However, the more reliable and significant results could be obtained in further studies by prolongation of the practice period, and by introducing the clinical information such as brain mapping to compensate the emotional bias of the patients.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate item goodness-of-fit of Scale, Rasch rating scale model was applied to 5 dimensions 24 items of the Test of Performance Strategies (TOPS) in a sample of athletes with physical disabilities (n=215). An assumption to test Rasch Model, which is satisfaction of unidimensionality, is regarded through PCAR test, and WINSTEPS 3.65 program is used to test the goodness-of-fit of items. The results of this study were: First, 3-point rating category was appropriate for the TOPS instead of the existing 5-point rating category. Second, as a result of analyzing the goodness-of-fit of the items, 21 items of the TOPS were suitable, but 3 items were not. Third, the item reliability of person separation of the TOPS was acceptable, but the person reliability of item separation was not suitable and it was necessary to adjust the item order considering the difficulty level of the items. Fourth, as a result of comparing the individual attribute score and the difficulty level through the Item-Person Map, the distribution of the item difficulty distribution was shown to be biased in some factors compared to the personal attribute score distribution.

  • General finger splint manufactured and sold domestically could have been of great help to patients with disabilities due to damage to the body's. However, it reminded the wearer of his disability that he wanted to hide. This has had a negative effect on the psychological side of self-absorption and depression. If this avoids or rejects wearing, the role of ancillary rehabilitation is lost. This does not meet the user's requirements. Thus, in this study, 3D printing was used to better reflect user requirements. Next, the study examined existing prior studies to identify the characteristics and criteria of each study. It also examined medical finger aids that were being sold in the auxiliary device market. The assessment criteria were derived by compiling and interpreting user surveys of each finger splint device. Based on the evaluation criteria derived, the design guidelines for finger splint were presented using FDM-style 3D printers. Finally, we proposed a finger splint design according to the proposed design guideline.

  • Background: Normal-weight obese women have a normal weight with relatively low muscle mass resulting from high body fat. We aimed to investigate the effects of core exercise on body composition, abdominal muscle thickness, trunk muscular endurance, and psychological factors in normal-weight obese women. Design: One group pre-, mid-, and post-test design. Methods: A total of 20 normal-weight obese women were recruited voluntarily. Core exercises were performed for 30 minutes, three times a week for 4 weeks. InBody measurements, ultrasound imaging, and clinical tests were used to assess body composition, abdominal muscle thickness, trunk and core muscular endurance, and psychological condition(satisfaction with appearance and self-esteem). The dependent variables were measured three times: before the intervention (pre-test), 2 weeks after the intervention (mid-test), and 4 weeks after intervention (post-test). One-way repeated measures ANOVA and Friedman test were used for statistical analysis. Results: Although there was no change in the body composition (p>0.05), thickness of the transversus abdominis and internal and external oblique muscles, endurance of the trunk flexors and extensors and core muscles, and psychological condition showed significant differences after the intervention (p<0.05). Conclusion: Our findings will help develop exercise programs for normal-weight obese individuals that utilize the beneficial effect of core exercises.

  • Objective : This study is to investigate the correlation of Ego-degense mechanism, stress and activities of daily living of stroke patients. Methods : The study was carried out from March 14, 2014 to May 15, 2015. A survey was conducted at a university hospital and three rehabilitation hospitals located in Daegu and Busan. For statistical analysis, frequency analysis, independent sample t-test, and Pearson correlation coefficient were used in this study. Results : As a result of the mature Ego-defense mechanism grop was more stressful than immature Ego-defense mechanism group(p<.05), mechanism group also showed better performance in activities of daily living activity(p<.05). Conclusion : The higher stress in stroke patients related to the disability to perform activities of daily living. Psychosocial rehabilitation for factors such as stress as well as physical function in stroke patients in the rehabilitation of stroke patients by using the Ego-defense will have a significant impact on an individual's personality or lifestyle.

  • The purpose of this study was to verify the clinical utility of th Korea Child Behavior Checklist 16-18(K-CBCL 6-18) in diagnosing ADHD among children with psychological disorders in child welfare institutions. The participants were 509 elementary school children(309 boys and 200 girls) who lived in child welfare institutions. They were assessed using the Korean ADHD Rating Scale(K-ARS) and K-CBCL 6-18. Only five scales of the K-CBCL 6-18 related with attention were used for analysis: syndrom total, externalizing total, aggressive behavior, attention problems and DSM-oriented ADHD scales. The results were as follows. First, K-ARS and K-CBCL 6-18 had significantly positive correlations with all five scales. Second, as a result of a t-test on the ADHD and the non-ADHD groups, which were divided using K-ARS, the mean scores of ADHD group were significantly higher than the non-ADHD group for all five scales of the K-CBCL 6-18. The hit rate of all five scales of the K-CBCL 6-18 was 60 to 70 percent. The syndrom total and externalizing total scales had high sensitivity, whereas the aggressive behavior, attention problems, and the DSM-oriented ADHD scales had high specificity. In addition, all scales had high positive predictive values. Third, as the result of a t-test on the ADHD group and the emotional disorder group, there were significant difference in the mean scores of the attention problems and the DSM-oriented ADHD scales. The attention problems and the DSM-oriented ADHD scales had a similar percentage of hit rate, high specificity and low sensitivity. Especially, the DSM-oriented ADHD scale revealed higher specificity than the attention problems scale. The results of this study suggested that the five scales related to attention of the K-CBCL 6-18 are useful in diagnosing ADHD in child welfare institutions.
