Zermelo and the Axiomatic Method (제르멜로와 공리적 방법)

  • This article intends to examine the widespread assumption, which has been uncritically accepted, that Zermelo simply adopted Hilbert's axiomatic method in his axiomatization of set theory. What is essential in that shared axiomatic method? And, exactly when was it established? By philosophical reflection on these questions, we are to uncover how Zermelo's thought and Hilbert's thought on the axiomatic method were developed interacting each other. As a consequence, we will note the possibility that Zermelo, in his early as well as late thought, had views about the axiomatic method entirely different from that of Hilbert. Such a result must have far-reaching implications to the history of set theory and the axiomatic method, thereby to the philosophy of mathematics in general.

  • 본 연구는 과학 커뮤니케이션 분야에서 널리 쓰이고 있는 뉴스 내용분석 방법론이 하이프 사이클 모델에 부합하는 지를 탐색적으로 살펴보고자 한다. 즉 과학기술 뉴스 내용분석이 하이프 사이클 모델에서 설명하는 사회적 가시성의 실체적 파악을 위한 기술기획의 유용한 보완적 방법론으로 쓰일 수 있음을 밝히는데 본 연구의 의의가 있다. 이를 위해 대표적인 유망기술로 클라우드 컴퓨팅을 대상으로 뉴스 내용분석을 수행하였다. 분석의 초점은 클라우드 컴퓨팅 기술 관련 뉴스의 빈도, 보도태도(긍정, 중립, 부정), 5가지 뉴스 프레임 관점에서 분석이 이루어졌고, 뉴스 보도경향이 하이프 사이클 흐름을 따라가는 지를 살펴보았다. 종합지 경제지와 IT전문지를 대상으로 한 뉴스 내용분석 결과는 뉴스 빈도, 보도 태도, 뉴스 프레임 모두 하이프 사이클의 흐름을 따르고 있었으며, 특히 2014년 이후의 흐름은 하이프 사이클 상에서 기대붕괴 지점을 지나 현실인식의 지점으로 진화되는 시점임을 추론할 수 있었다. 본 연구결과는 최근 확산되고 있는 텍스트 마이닝, 감성어 자동식별 분석 기술 등과 접목하여 사회적 맥락 파악을 위한 기술기획 분석의 보완적 방법론으로 기여할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

  • Die Erkenntnistheorie von Berkeley entwickelt sich in der Auseinandersetzung mit den Lehren von Descartes und Locke, und sie ist als die idealistische Linie durch Hume mit dem deutschen Idealismus verbunden. Berkelez nimmt die Erfahrung als Ausgangspunkt der $M{\ddot{o}}glichkeit$ des Denkens an, und bei ihm kann die Erkenntnis durch die radikale Untersuchung des Objekts zur Sicherheit gelangen. Durch diese Untersuchung will er den Skeptizismus und die Spekulation, die sich auf das innere, unerfahrbare Wesen der Dinge bezieht, vernichten. Wir $k{\ddot{o}}nnen$ also bei ihm die Sinnesideen(ideas imprinted on the sense) als die Objekte der Erkenntnis, den Geist (mind) als das Subjekt der Erkenntnis und das $Ged{\ddot{a}}chtnis$ und die Einbildungkraft (memory and imagination) als die Vermittlung der Erkenntnis auffassen. Berkeley nennt solche Objekte die sinnlich von uns wahrgenommenen Dinge. Solche Dinge sind zwar wirkliche Dinge, aber sie bestehen als die durch die Sinne wahrgenommenen Ideen nicht $selst{\ddot{a}}ndig$ $au{\ss}erhalb$ der Geister, der sie wahrnimmt oder erkennt, existieren. Daher ist nach Berkeley 'esse'(das Sein solcher Dinge) 'percipi'(Wahrgenommenwerden): "esse est percipi".

Hermeneutical Philosophy and Philosophical Hermeneutics (해석학적 철학과 철학적 해석학)

  • The purpose of this thesis is to explain the difference between Heidegger's hermeneutical philosophy and Gadamer's philosophical hermeneutics. The difference is to say that Heidegger's philosophy begins with Aristotle's theory of category and transcendental philosophy. On the other hand, the beginning of Gadamer's philosophical research is Plato's dialog, philosophy and Hegels dialectic. 2. Heidegger regards humanism as a variant of the modern ideal of human beings. On the contrary, Gadamer understands humanism as a place where romantism leads to the ideals of human education. 3. Heidegger says that the hermeneutical circle is still a logical and existential structure of the circle. On the contrary, Gadamer understands the circle as a circle between the whole and the part. This circle is the law of traditional hermeneutics derived from the tradition of rhetoric. 4. Heidegger says Plato's philosophy is the first beginning of the substance metaphysic, Hegel's philosophy the end of the subject metaphysic. On the contrary, Gadamer says the hermeneutical understanding and the hermeneutical interpretation is endless. 5. Heidegger's ontology is as Sein zum Tode a future oriented and eschatological. On the contrary, Gadamer's hermeneutic is as Sein zum Text always the way to a past, the infinite openness.

Study on Chongyoulun of Peiwei (배위의 숭유론 고찰)

  • This article is to study the purpose and significance of Chongyoulun of Peiwei, and it is composed of the two parts of philosophy and critical mind. The critical mind on Chongyoulun is as follows: first, it is mis-interpretative to define the main thought of Laozi as Xuwu. Next, the old philosophers did not criticize Xuwuism properly; as a result, they failed to stop spreading Xuwuism. Last, Guiwulun brought about the disorder of the way of life and the collapse of the public order. Based on this critical mind, Peiwei built up the following philosophy based on You as the fundamental principle of the existence and the movement of universal nature. First, Tao is the combined Wanyou, not abstract substance which is outside of Wanyou. Second, Wu is the state of being without You, and You only comes from You. Third, You can survive depending on external You because You is not the independent substance. Therefore, understanding the external You is the main factor of its existence. Fourth, Wanyou do not harm each other as they get together since Wanyous are interdependent. People are the being who can live through the mutual dependent relationships; hence, social system and morals (ethics) are key factors of the world in the oncological point of view. Wanyou had tried to rebuild the corrupted way of life and public order by recovering the justification of moral orders based on the mutual dependence of Wanyou which is the substance character.

The Illusion of Determinism and Free Will as a Functional Kinds Term (결정론의 환상과 기능류어로서의 자유의지)

  • Determinism and compatibilism have thought that libertarianism contradicts the scientific view. This paper demonstrates that the hypothesis that free will exists does not cause any problems and contradictions, while maintaining pro-scientific view. Rather, determinism lacks scientific and demonstrative bases. At first, I reject dualistic self by assuming identity theory of the self and physical body & brain. Free will is a functional concept or property that can have multiple realization. Therefore we can recognize whether aliens or robots have free will through observation on their acts. 'Free will' is a functional kinds term like 'digestion'. As we know we have digestive function, we can know that we have free will even before knowing the necessity of its existence by understanding micro structure of human free will. The judgement that an individual has free will function depends on whether it has particular actions. Those actions are controlling and restraining actions in context, predicting future, making elaborate conditional sentences, etc. Real being of free will is the physical occupant of the function that makes those actions. Determinism is based on various kinds of misconceptions and misunderstandings. Determinists often confuse necessity of physical law and determinism. Another decisive misunderstanding is that free will postulates same conditions and different results from the same point of time. However, free will postulates that the two points of time are different. Because determinism is unnecessary redundant hypothesis influenced by religions, according to Ockham's Razor, determinism should be eliminated.

  • Based on the wind engineering, for the first time, a effects of wind in the Poongsoojiri is developed. The fluctuating wind velocity is assumed as time-dependent random process described by the time-independent random process with deterministic function during a short duration of time. The wind properties are represented by separation, turbulence, eddies, wind profiles, turbulence intensity and surface roughness. In this papers, there were compared the effects of wind engineering with the concepts of Poongsoojiri.

The Sophisticated Causes in the Phaedo (『파이돈』에서의 세련된 원인들)

  • In the final argument for the immortality of the soul in the Phaedo, Socrates establishes a new type of cause which he describes as 'more sophisticated' and on the basis of it attempts to show that the soul is immortal. In the process, he introduces three examples for the cause, i.e. three, fire, and snow. But there has been considerable controversy over the ontological status of the three and the soul. Some scholars think that they are all forms; others believe that neither of them is. In this paper I argue that in fact one of them is a form, while the others are not. I also argue that the fact that they do not have the same ontological status and the uncertainty in the nature of the soul itself weaken the cogency of the final argument as a whole.

  • An ICSID award on Lone Star case has been rendered finally on August 31st, 2022 after almost ten years since the Lone Star Funds submitted the request for arbitration against the Republic of Korea in 2012. The Lone Star case is the first investor-state dispute settlement(ISDS) case brought against Korea, and this case, also known as "eat and run" case, has given rise to heated debates for years. Moreover, as the ICSID tribunal has ordered Korea to pay the Lone Star Funds the sum of USD 216.5 million plus interest in the award, this case has become once again the subject of controversy. Any arguments and evidence submitted by the parties in dispute have not been disclosed until recently, however, as the memorials and the award are now open to the public, it has become possible to realize the assertions of each party and the decisions of the tribunal in detail. Therefore, this paper aims at analyzing the main issues of the Lone Star case with a focus on the ICSID award. By examining the substantive and procedural issues of the case one after the other, it might be able to understand the whole picture of the case and prepare for the remaining procedures of this case and other upcoming cases as well.

  • This study explains a turning to being cultured and geography management to get closer to popularization and specialization of geography, for which based on the assumption that they are for development of knowledge. It adopts the idea of human's geographical nature to solve the dualism which geography is referred as science and art. An object geographer studies is homogeneous, temporal as well as identifical and individual. To adopt human's geographical nature causes to human's geographical investigation, and uniting positivism to humanism. It deduces from the Bible and Evolutionism that it is characteristic of mobility, adaptabilty, connectivity, ideality, and hybridity. Geographical concepts is based on the fact that it can be applied to geographical research theme. Popularization of geography has to relate to being cultural, and specialization of geography has to relate to geography management.
