  • In this paper, in order to research spectrum usage efficiency in urban canyon environment at the microwave band, measurement and channel capacity analysis of multi-antenna technology is described. The measurement data obtained from 3 - 4 stories building area used and the propagation characteristics at the 3.7 and 8GHz band are analysed and compared. In case of $2{\times}2$ MIMO, channel capacities of 3.7 and 8 GHz band are calculated to 9.1 bps/Hz and S bps/Hz and in case of $4{\times}4$ MIMO, 21 bps/Hz and 12.5 bps/Hz respectively. Considering the coverage, SNR and channel capacity in urban environment, MIMO propagation characteristics of 3.7 GHz are more predominate than those of 8 GHz.

  • This paper analyzes the power allocation scheme to maximize the sum-rate for heterogeneous networks based on asynchronous time division duplex. We consider heterogeneous networks where a small cell exists in the macro cell coverage and the small cell and the macro cell share the same time-frequency resources. We formulate the optimization problem which maximizes the sum-rate of the heterogeneous network subject to the target signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio. We analyze the feasible region in order for the optimal solution to exists and the optimal power allocation scheme for maximizing the sum-rate. Simulation results show that the proposed power allocation schemes outperform the maximum power transmission scheme.

  • To complete the "anywhere" mobile service there should not be shaded areas. However, it is never economical to deploy BS's (Base Stations) in a low population density area due to the low resource utilization. We propose a design technique to install RS's(Relay Stations) which are cheaper than BS's and find the condition in which the proposed technique is acceptible. The proposed design technique aims to allocate the frequency and time resources to RS's to minimize the transmission rate degradation due to interferences between RS's as well as to maximize the parallelism in transmission. We showed by simulation that the proposed technique achieves cost benefits when the expected traffic is less than 20.32 percent of the total BS capacity. The proposed technique is compatible with the IEEE 802.16j, thus can be extended to multi-hop configuration.

  • DS/CDM-QPSK (ITU-R Recommendation BO.1130-4 Annex 6, 'Digital System E'), which has been adoptedas a standard of Korean Satellite DMB (Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) system, is a satellite-based multimedia broadcasting service which transmits the multi-channel and high quality contents to the terrestrial users through a satellite or gap-fillers. The broadcast from a satellite is directly received in the plain terrain which are within line-of-sight, but in cities where the broadcast cannot be received directly due to the shadow of buildings, an attempt is being made to install 'Gap-Fillers' to improve the reception in those areas. The gap-fillers, however, may induce interference to service of adjacent band, when their output power is substantially higher compared to the received signal power of signal from a satellite of the adjacent service. In this paper, a link budget analysis is performed, and the optimal EIRP of a gap-filler to maximize the gap-filler coverage, while preventing adjacent band interference is derived.

  • In addition to individual calls and group calls, the Trunked Radio System (TRS), which belongs to a group, can make calls simultaneously, and many users can use it within a limited time by adjusting the call time. Also, the LCX infrastructure network of the subway Most of the FM, firefighting radio, TRS of the National Police Agency and the terrestrial DMB service built in 2005 are commonly connected to the network for service and operation. In connection with the analysis, call reception sensitivity, handoff, interference with other signals, time delay, etc. were analyzed, and tests such as reception field strength for each output of the repeater and the success rate of the call terminal were conducted and the test results were analyzed. In addition, it will help TRS cell design and network construction by predicting equipment output capacity and service coverage based on test results.

  • This study presents a satellite constellation method that achieves optimal revisit performance by utilizing genetic algorithm techniques. The Walker method is a global coverage concept, and there are limitations to target-centered constellation considering the strategic environment of the Korean Peninsula. To overcome these limitations, targets are set in major areas of interest in North Korea, orbit elements with optimal revisit performance for each target are searched, and based on this, the number of satellites optimized for each target is derived using a genetic algorithm. The results of this study demonstrate the performance of the optimized constellation by applying phasing rules to achieve the desired revisit performance.

  • Even though extensive research results have been applied to wireless cellular systems to improve their capacity and coverage, severe performance degradation experienced in cell boundary areas still remains as a major limiting factor to prohibit further improvement of user equipment (UE) throughput. In the Long Term Evolution-Advanced (LTE-A) standard of the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), Some advanced techniques have been introduced to overcome this "cell-edge problem", including coordinated multipoint transmission and reception (CoMP) and inter-cell interference coordination (ICIC). In this paper, we propose yet another strategy to improve the performance of low-tier UEs by using the concept of multiple beam direction patterns (BDPs). Such multiple BDPs can be implemented using multi-layer antenna arrays stacked vertically at base station (BS) sites to transmit signals in different main beam directions. In comparison to conventional three-sector antennas with a fixed beam pattern, the proposed methods makes signal transmission in a rotational fashion to significantly enhance the reception quality of UEs located near sector (or cell) edge areas, preventing the situation where certain UEs are marginally covered by the BS for the whole transmission time. Performance evaluation results show that the proposed scheme outperforms the conventional three-sector transmission by 171% in low 5% UEs in terms of the UE throughput.

  • Autonomous vehicles are equipped with a wide rage of sensors such as GPS, RADAR, LIDAR, camera, IMU, etc. and are driven by recognizing and judging various transportation systems at intersections in the city. The accident ratio of the intersection of the autonomous vehicles is 88% of all accidents due to the limitation of prediction and judgment of an area outside the sensing distance. Not only research on non-signalized intersection collision avoidance strategies through V2V and V2I is underway, but also research on safe intersection driving in failure situations is underway, but verification and fragments through simple intersection scenarios Only typical V2V failures are presented. In this paper, we analyzed the architecture of the V2V module, analyzed the causal factors for each V2V module, and defined the failure mode. We presented intersection scenarios for various road conditions and traffic volumes. we used the ISO-26262 Part3 Process and performed HARA (Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment) to analyze the risk of autonomous vehicle based on the simulation. We presented ASIL, which is the result of risk analysis, proposed a monitoring concept for each component of the V2V module, and presented monitoring coverage.

  • In this paper, we propose a digital transceiver unit design for in-building of 5G optical repeaters that extends the coverage of 5G mobile communication network services and connects to a stable wireless network in a building. The digital transceiver unit for driving the proposed 5G optical repeater is composed of 4 blocks: a signal processing unit, an RF transceiver unit, an optical input/output unit, and a clock generation unit. The signal processing unit plays an important role, such as a combination of a basic operation of the CPRI interface, a 4-channel antenna signal, and response to external control commands. It also transmits and receives high-quality IQ data through the JESD204B interface. CFR and DPD blocks operate to protect the power amplifier. The RF transmitter/receiver converts the RF signal received from the antenna to AD, is transmitted to the signal processing unit through the JESD204B interface, and DA converts the digital signal transmitted from the signal processing unit to the JESD204B interface and transmits the RF signal to the antenna. The optical input/output unit converts an electric signal into an optical signal and transmits it, and converts the optical signal into an electric signal and receives it. The clock generator suppresses jitter of the synchronous clock supplied from the CPRI interface of the optical input/output unit, and supplies a stable synchronous clock to the signal processing unit and the RF transceiver. Before CPRI connection, a local clock is supplied to operate in a CPRI connection ready state. XCZU9CG-2FFVC900I of Xilinx's MPSoC series was used to evaluate the accuracy of the digital transceiver unit for driving the 5G optical repeater proposed in this paper, and Vivado 2018.3 was used as the design tool. The 5G optical repeater digital transceiver unit proposed in this paper converts the 5G RF signal input to the ADC into digital and transmits it to the JIG through CPRI and outputs the downlink data signal received from the JIG through the CPRI to the DAC. And evaluated the performance. The experimental results showed that flatness, Return Loss, Channel Power, ACLR, EVM, Frequency Error, etc. exceeded the target set value.

  • Weld overlay was first used in power plants in the US in the early 1980s as an interim method of repairing the welds of flawed piping joints. Weld overlaid piping joints in nuclear power plants must be examined periodically using ultrasonic examination technology. Portable phased array ultrasonic technology has recently become available. Currently, the application of preemptive weld overlays as a mitigation technique and/as a method to improve the examination surface condition for more complex configurations is becoming more common. These complex geometries may require several focused conventional transducers for adequate inspection of the overlay, the original weld, and the base material. Alternatively, Phased array ultrasonic probes can be used to generate several inspection angles simultaneously at various focal depths to provide better and faster coverage than that possible by conventional methods. Thus, this technology can increase the speed of examinations, save costs, and reduce radiation exposure. In this paper, we explain the general sequence of the inspection of weld overlay and the results of signal analysis for some PAUT (phased array ultrasonic testing) signals detected in on-site inspections.
