Digital Predistortion for Closely Spaced Dual-Band Signals (근접한 이중대역 신호에 대한 디지털 전치왜곡 기법)

  • A new digital pre-distortion (DPD) technique for closely spaced dual-band signals is proposed. In the system under consideration, dual-band signals are amplified by a single broadband power amplifier (PA) at a transmitter. The PA output is distorted by cross-modulation between the two bands as well as their own inter-modulation distortion. Especially, if the two bands are placed in close proximity to each other, their spectral regrowths due to in-band intermodulation overlap with each other, which degrades DPD performance. To solve this problem, we propose a new DPD technique where the dual-band PA characteristics are estimated first, and then the DPD parameters are obtained from the estimated PA characteristics. By finding the DPD parameters through two steps, pre-distortion can perform well for the closely-spaced dual band signals. The proposed technique is verified through computer simulation. Simulation result shows that the proposed method performs better than the conventional method for closely-spaced dual band signals.

A Study on the Predistortion Linearizer Controlled by the Individual Order with Frequency Multiplier (주파수 체배기를 이용한 개별 차수 조정 전치왜곡 선형화기의 설계 및 구현)

  • In the thesis, we propose a new type of the predistortion linearizer using frequency multiplier The linearizer utilizing the 2nd and 3th harmonic used the individual control of the 3rd and 5th order intermodulation distortion(IMD) component. This structure is composed of wilkinson power combiner for combine and isolation of output signal, 3rd order IMD product controller using doubler and 5th order IMD product controller using tripler. The proposed predistortion linearizer controlled by individual order is obtained for about -16 dBc and 18 dBc of 3rd order and 5th order IMD components, respectively, over the frequency band 870 MHz to 880 MHz at the output power of 34 dBm/tone.

  • Power amplifier is an essential component for transmitting signals to a remote receiver in wireless communication systems. Power amplifier is a non-linear device in general, and the nonlinear distortion becomes severer as the output power increases. The nonlinearity results in spectral regrowth, which leads to adjacent channel interference, and decreases the transmit signal quality. To linearize power amplifiers, many techniques have been developed so far. Among the techniques, digital pre-distortion is known as the most cost and performance effective technique. However, the linearization performance falls down abruptly when the power amplifier operates in its saturation region. This is because of the severe nonlinearity. To relieve this problem, this paper proposes a new adaptive predistortion technique. The proposed technique controls the adaptive algorithm based on the power amplifier input level. Specifically, for small signals, the adaptive predistortion algorithm works normally. On the contrary, for large signals, the adaptive algorithm stops until small signals occur again. By doing this, wrong coefficient update by severe nonlinearity can be avoided. Computer simulation results show that the proposed method can improve the linearization performance compared with the conventional digital predistortion algorithms.

Adaptive Equalizer Generating Input Data to Compensate Nonlinear Channel Distortion (비선형 채널 왜곡 보상을 위한 입력 데이터를 발생시키는 적응등화기)

  • 본 논문에서는 유ㆍ무선 통신 채널을 통한 데이터 전송시 발생하는 비선형 왜곡을 적응 필터를 이용하여 보상하였다. 특히 통신채널에서는 심볼간 간섭(ISI)이 발생하는데 이러한 간섭을 비선형 필터를 이용하여 제거하였다. 비선형 채널을 모델링하는 방법에는 볼테라급수를 이용하는 방법과 쌍선형 방법이 있다. 쌍선형 방법은 볼테라 방법에 비하여 계산량이 적은 장점을 지니고 있다. 따라서 쌍선형 필터에 적응 알고리듬을 적용하여 신호의 왜곡을 보상하였다. 적응 알고리듬에는 LMS 계열과 LS 계열 알고리듬이 있으나 통신 채널에서는 알고리듬의 안정도가 중요하므로 LMS 계열 알고리듬을 적용하였다. 또한 적응 알고리듬은 입력 데이터의 상관성과 데이터 수에 의존하여 수렴속도와 안정도가 결정된다. 알고리듬의 수렴속도를 증가시키기 위하여 입력신호를 신호파형으로부터 다량의 데이터를 검출하는 방법을 적용하였다. 이러한 방법을 입증하기 위하여 입력신호는 2진 랜덤 가우시안 데이터를 이용하였고, 통신채널에서 채널간 간섭을 발생시켰으며 화이트 가우시안 잡음을 부가 시켰다. 이러한 신호를 수신한 수신기에 적응 등화기를 설계하여 대량의 데이터를 생성시키고, 적응 알고리듬을 적용하여 채널의 왜곡을 빠른 속도로 보상하였다.

A Study on the Signal Integrity and Distorted Signal Analysis of High Speed Transmission Line (고속 전송선로의 신호왜곡과 신호 보전에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, we suggested the method of signal integrity for noises and distortion signal generated between high speed information transmission modules by external effects. Suggested method for signal integrity of impedance matching to remove transmission line distortion, We divided the impedance matching between the transmitter and the receiver module with the single line and differential line methods after confirmed the improvement of signal distortions through ADS simulation. the experimental results indicated that it is possible to keep signal integrity without signal distortions by matching the optimal termination impedance which are considering the signal delay of transmission line for using the high-performance modules.

A Design of Analog Predistortion Linearizer Using Even Harmonic Signals (짝수 고조파 성분을 이용한 아날로그 전치 왜곡 선형화기 설계)

  • This paper proposes a new predistortion linearizer with controlling intermodulation distortion(IMD) signals. This linearizer achieves independent control of third- and fifth-order intermodulation distortion products using amplitude modulation with even harmonic signals. A vector modulator that modulate fundamental signal with both second- and fourth-order harmonic components generated by harmonic generator circuits, generates the inverse characteristics third-and fifth-order intermodulation signals of power amplifier and controls amplitude and phase of them with each other modulation factors. As a results, this linearizer is suppressed IMD signals of power amplifier effectively. The test results show that the third IMD is cancelled more than 25 dB and the fifth order IMD is cancelled about 18 dB for CW two-tone signals. Also, it's improved the adjacent channel power ratio(ACPR) more than 7 dB for IS-95 CDMA signals.

A Robust Vector Quantization Method against Distortion Outlier and Source Mismatch (이상 신호왜곡과 소스 불일치에 강인한 벡터 양자화 방법)

  • In resolution-constrained quantization, the size of Voronoi cell varies depending on probability density function of the input data, which causes large amount of distortion outliers. We propose a vector quantization method that reduces distortion outliers by combining the generalized Lloyd algorithm (GLA) and the cell-size constrained vector quantization (CCVQ) scheme. The training data are divided into the inside and outside regions according to the size of Voronoi cell, and consequently CCVQ and GLA are applied to each region, respectively. As CCVQ is applied to the densely populated region of the source instead of GLA, the number of centroids for the outside region can be increased such that distortion outliers can be decreased. In real-world environment, source mismatch between training and test data is inevitable. For the source mismatch case, the proposed algorithm improves performance in terms of average distortion and distortion outliers.

A Novel Predistorter design using a Balanced Type IM3 Generator (평형 구조 혼변조 발생기를 이용한 전치왜곡 선형화기 설계)

  • This paper presents a novel linearization scheme for a nonlinear RF amplifier It is based on the amplitude modulation with envelope signal. The 3rd order distortion generator is composed of two FETs and it adopts a balanced structure for the purpose of main carrier cancellation. The amplitude and phase of the IM3 component can be controlled at RF band. This predistorter is implemented and tested at the KOREA PCS Tx. band (1840∼1870MHz). Experimental results of two-tone test show that the IM3 cancellation is achieved about 30-40 ㏈ for the wide dynamic range. The adjacent channel power ratio is improved by over 10 ㏈ at the broad-band CDMA signal with a peak to average power ratio of l0㏈, and this improvement is maintained through a wide range of output power levels.

Soft-Decision Based Quantization of the Multimedia Signal Considering the Outliers in Rate-Allocation and Distortion (이상 비트율 할당과 신호왜곡 문제점을 고려한 멀티미디어 신호의 연판정 양자화 방법)

  • There are two major conventional quantization algorithms: resolution-constrained quantization (RCQ) and entropy-constrained quantization (ECQ). Although RCQ works well for fixed transmission-rate, it produces the distortion outliers since the cell sizes are different. Compared with RCQ, ECQ has the constraints on the cell size but it produces the rate outliers. We propose the cell-size constrained vector quantization (CCVQ) that improves the generalized Lloyd algorithm (GLA). The CCVQ algorithm is able to make a soft-decision between RCQ and ECQ by using the flexible penalty measure according to the cell size. Although the proposed method increases the small amount of overall mean-distortion, it can reduce the distortion outliers.

On a Study of Analysis Using Shifted Window in the Speech Signal (Shifted Window를 이용한 음성신호의 분석에 관한 연구)

  • 음성신호처리에서 스펙트럼 분석은 매우 중요하다. 하지만 스펙트럼 분석을 위해서 사용되는 윈도우에 의해 생기는 누설에러지 때문에 음성신호의 스펙트럼 정보가 왜곡된다. 본 논문에서는 스펙트럼 분석 시 발생되는 창함수 사용에 의해 생기는 누설에너지를 최소화하기 위한 새로운 창함수를 제안하고자 한다. 그 형태는 전체 창함수크기의 반을 방형창으로 나머지 반을 해밍창으로 하고 창의 처음 부분은 $\pm$20표본에서 영점을 찾아주는 것이다. 이 창함수의 특징은 신호분석에 있어서 왜곡은 크지만 그 형태에 있어서 가장 이상적인 방형창함수의 장점과 side lobe가 작아 비교적 왜곡이 적은 해밍창함수의 장점을 취한 것이라 하겠다. 실제 음성 신호에의 적용에 있어서 방형창과 해밍창의 적용비는 신호의 종류 및 용도에 따라 달리할 수 있다. 제안한 창함수는 해밍창함수 보다는 좁은 main lobe 특성으로 음성신호의 단구간 스펙트럼 분석시 음성의 빠른 변화특성을 적절히 보여줄 수 있고 방형창보다는 side lobe의 영향을 줄일 수 있다.
