This article examines the influences of Journalist gender and gender ratio in the newsroom on news coverage of women among three national newspapers in Korea. Results reveal that female reporters describe women newsmakers in greater length, of more diversity in occupations, and of more positive pattern than their colleagues, male reporters do. The newspaper employing more female reporters also covers female newsmakers with less personal information, of more diversity in occupations, and of more positive pattern. It is suggested that increase of female reporters in the newsroom induce male reporters to cover women newsmakers toward a pro-female attitude. Lastly, the relation of the gender ratio variation in the news organization and news coverage of women is discussed.

The Electronic Times, starting in 1982 as a weekly newspaper, has become an influential daily newspaper specializing in Information Technology(IT) since the mid 1990s in Korea. Particularly, it has shown significant and impressive financial achievements in the past thirty years since it was established. Also, it has contributed to the development in the field of IT journalism as well as the popularization of Information Technology. The primary purpose of this study is to provide useful lessons and implications to those who are interested in the evolution of The Electronic Times by investigating the financial performance of The Electronic Times and its contributions to the popularization of IT in our society.

신문 ㆍ방송 등 언론사가 재정적 위기에 처할 때마다 맨 먼저 내쫓기는 대열 속에는 어김없이 과학기자들이 포함된다. 결국 적격한 과학전문기자가 없거나 절대로 모자라 우리나라 과학저널리즘은 위기를 맞을 수 밖에 없다. 21세기를 앞두고 과학대중화를 통한 선진국으로의 도약발판이 하루빨리 마련되기를 기대한다.

This study examines the changed information-gathering environment of these days has indeed changed the patterns of reporters in their information seeking efforts. For the study, two groups of reporters were surveyed. The first group consists of 9 senior-level reporters working for daily papers with 15 years or more of journalism career, the second group 11 junior reporters who have been in the industry for less than 10 years. The surveying of these reporters has indicated significant change in their patterns of information-seeking endeavor, the dominant trend changing from reporters' putting an emphasis on off-the record types of information through person-to-person contacts to their new focus on made-public information. The senior-level reporters, identify person-to-person contacts as most valuable sources for information and take meetings with their contacts as providing critical opportunities for information-gathering. On the other hand, this examination has found junior reporters to be spending more time in collecting made-public information and paying more attention to acquiring a higher level of professionalism and greater analytical abilities. In short, this study confirms the ever-rising importance of making available a wider range of information for reporters.

홍우동 대한인쇄문화협회 회장, 이충원 대한인쇄정보산업협동조합연합회 회장, 조정석 서울특별시인쇄정보산업협동조합 이사장, 김진배 대한인쇄정보기술협회 회장은 지난 1월 21일 오후 3시부터 중구 쌍림동 소재 인쇄정보센터 강당에서 신춘 기자간담회를 개최했다. 이날 간담회에서 4단체장은 앞으로 단체간 철저한 공조를 통해 업계의 현안에 적극 대응하고 공동 발전을 위해 최선을 다 할 것이라고 다짐했다. 또 덤핑방지를 위해 인쇄연합회에 '제값받기운동본부'를 두기로 했다고 밝혔다. 이날 간담회에는 프린팅코리아, 인쇄계, 인쇄문화, 인쇄산업신문, PT, 인쇄저널 기자가 참석했다. 다음은 사안 별 단체장들의 발언 요지다.

Most studies of Korean Newspaper in historical view have focused on the news writing form and editorial practice. Those studies have much rely on the memories of ex-journalist or the impression of scholars. So this study aims to give the concrete figures of news writing forms and editing practices in 1920-30's by investigating Kim Dong-Seong's activities as a journalist. He was a first journalist who studies journalism. He studied journalism during his stay in the Ohio State University as an english department student. After he came back to Seoul, he worked at the Dong-A Il Bo as an one of the first publish members. His activities as a journalist have much important meanings because of his varied works and careers. He also wrote a practical affair book for reporters which was the first book in Korea. As a result of research about Kim Dong-Seong's activities in 1920-30's, the feature of edit practice in 1920's had much emphasis not only on the headline but on the relation between type and print, and at the same time the combination of news or the change of typography was one of methods which make the editing more variety. News materials were collected varied news sources and legworks by reporter. These results show us that such a news reporting practice in 1920-30's is similar co the contemporary.
