Effects of Dietary Protein and Calcium Levels on Hematological Properties and Renal Functions of the Pb-administered Rats. (식이내 단백질과 칼슘의 수준이 납중독된 흰쥐에 혈액학적 성상 및 신기능에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was designed to investigate the effects of dietary protein ana calcium levels on hematological properties and renal functions of the Pb-administered rats. Male Sprague-Dawley rats were assigned to a 3$\times$3$\times$2 factorial design with 3 levels of protein (40%, 16%, 6%), 3 levels of Ca (1.2%, 0.6%, 0.12%) and 2 feeding Periods (3 and 7 Weeks). The Control group was included separately, The rats were exposed to the drinking water containing 2, 000ppm of lead. Hematocrit, hemoglobin content and RBC count were lower in the Pb-added groups than in the control group and were reduced with decreasing dietary protein and Ca levels. Urinary-aminolevulinic acid was higher in the Pb-added groups than in the control group and increased with decreasing dietary Ca level. However, urinary glucose was higher in the Pb-added groups than in the control group and enhanced with decreasing dietary protein and Ca levels. Creatinine celarance was not affected by the Pb administration when the rats fed the diet containing sufficient protein and Ca.

Effects of Dietary Fiber and Fat Sources on Lipid Contents of Serum and Tissues in Rats Fed Cholesterol Diet (식이섬유와 지방의 종류가 고콜레스테롤식을 섭취한 흰쥐의 혈청과 조직의 지질성분에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this research was to investigate the effects of 10%(w/w) of various dietary fiber, pectin(P), lignin(L), cellulose(C) and fiber-free (F) on lipid content of serum, liver and intestinal tissues in rats fed 10% coix oil (C)-or lard(L)-1% cholesterol diets for four weeks. The lard pectin(LP) group was the lowest In body weight gain and feed intake. Liver weight was not affected by dietary fiber and fat sources, and intestinal weight was higher in pectin(CP, LP) groups than in the other groups. Serum cholesterol was significantly lower in pectin(CP, LP) groups than in fiber-free(CF, LF) groups, and was higher in lard fiber-free(LF) than In the other groups(p<0.05). Serum triglycerides was significantly lower in coix oil pectin(CP) and lignin(CL, LL) than in fiber-free(CF, LF) groups. Liver total lipid and cholesterol content was significantly lower In pectin than In lard fiber-free group, and liver triglycerides was lower in coix oil pectin(CP) than in fiber-free groups (p<0.05). Lipid content of intestinal tissue was not affected by dietary fiber source. But total lipid and triglyceride content of intestinal tissues was significantly lower, and cholesterol content was higher in coix oil than in lard group(p<0.05). These results indicate that pectin and lignin reduced serum cholesterol. Pectin also decreased total lipid, cholesterol and triglyceride contents of liver in rats fed either coix oil-or lard-cholesterol diets whereas lignin did not affect liver lipid content.

Effecter of Different Levels of Ethanol Ingestion and Ethanol Withdrawal on Vitamins A and E contents in Rats (에탄올의 섭취수준과 금주 후 회복이 흰쥐의 비타님 A 및 E 함량에 미치는 영향)

  • 본 연구는 에탄올의 급여수준과 금주 후 회복이 체내항산화비타민 상태에 미치는 영향을 조사하고자 평균 체중이 200g인 Dprague-dawley 종 숫쥐 50마리를 사용하여 혈장 및 간조직의 비타민 A 및 E 의 함량을 비교.분석하였다. 실험식이라는 에탄올 액체식이형태로 만들어 공급하였으며, 이때 식이는 mL당 1 kacal의 열량을 공급할 수 있도록 조제하였다. 각 실험군의 식이구성은 에탄올을 첨가하는 대신 dextrin-maltose를 급여한 C군, 전체 칼로리의 10%를 에탄올로 첨가하는 LE 군 , 20%를 첨가하는 ME 군, 30%를 첨가하는 HE군 , 30%의 에탄올을 5주간 공급한 후 다시 2주간 정상식이를 급여한 회복군(HR)으로 설정하여 실험식이를 공급하였다. 혈자에서의 retinol 함량은 에탄올 급여수준에 따른 유의적인 차이는 나타나지 않았다. 간조직 중의 retinol 함량은 20% 이상의 에탄올 군에서 대조군에 비해 유의적으로 감소되었고, 30% 에탄올군인 HE 군에서는 현저하게 저하되었다. 30% 에탄올 급여후 2주간 정상식이를 회복시킨 군에서도 간조직의 retinol의 함량은 그대로 저하된 상태를 유지하였다. 간조직의 retinyl palmitate 함량은 에탄올 급여수준이 높을수록 감소되는 경향이었으며, 30% 에탄올군에서는 대조군에 비해 유의적으로 감소되었다. 회복군의 경우에도 이러한 저하현상은 더욱 심화되었다. 혈장의 $\alpha$-tocopherol 함량은 에탄올 급여량에 따라 별다른 차이를 나타내지 않았다. 간조직에서 10% 에탄올군에서도 대조군에 비해 유의적으로 감소되었으며, 에탄올 급여수준이 증가될수록 현저하게 저하되었다. 그러나 회복군에서는 $\alpha$-tocopherol의 함량이 10% 에탄올군의 수준까지 회복되었다. 이상의 결과에서와 같이 만성적인 에탄올의 섭취는 대체로 열량의 20% 이상을 에탄올로 급여하였을대 섭취수준이 증가함에 따라 흰쥐의 간조직에서 비타민 A와 $\alpha$-tocopherol으 lgkafid이 저하되었다. 이는 에탄올의 섭취를 중단하고 정상식이를 일정기간 급여하여도 특히 비타민 A 함량은 회복되지 않는 경향을 보여 만성적인 에탄올 섭취자들에게 비타민 A영양상태의 문제를 예방할 수 있는 방안이 강구되어야 함을 나타낸다.

Effects of Dietary Protein Levels and Sources on Calcium and Phosphorus Metabolism in Young Korean Women (한국성인 여성의 단백질 섭취수준과 동.식물성 급원이 칼슘 및 인대사에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was to examine the effects of dietary protein levels and the sources of protein(animal and plant) on calcium and phosphorus metabo lism in 10 healthy Korean female adults. The 26­d day study consisted of a 6-day adaptation period and lO-day moderate protein(109 N, 550mg Ca) a and IO-day high protein( 14g N, 570mg Ca) pe­r riod. During the experimental period, the subjects w were divided into two groups, either consuming a animal protein diet(75 % animal protein) or plant protein diet(75 % plant protein). Calcium(300 mg) was supplemented to two subjects of each d dict group for the last 4 days. Feces, urine and diet were analyzed nitrogen. calcium and phos­p phorus. The apparent absorption of calcium was significantly increased as the protein intake was inc­r reased from 60g to 90g in animal protein diet. A Average calcium absorption rate was 30% and 46 % from high and moderate levels of animal p protein diet Urinary calcium excretion was not affected by t the amount of the protein intake in both animal and plant protein diet. There was significantly higher urinary calcium excretion(I34mg) in high I level of animal protein diet than that( 83mg) in h high level of plant protein diet. Calcium balance was improved as the protein intake increased and c calcium was supplemented. Phosphorus absorp­t tion was more efficient in the high animal diet(77.81 %) than in the high plant diet(55-65%). The overall results indicate that an increase of protein and calcium supplement in moderate pro­ttein intake can improve calcium balance due to the increase of calcium absorption.

  • Normal healthy non vegetarian and lact$\infty$,vo­v vegetarian women were studied after they con­S sumed carrot juices as supplements. Daily sup­p plementation resulted in significant increase in serum levels of $\alpha$-, $\beta$-carotene and total carote­n noid in nonvegetarians and $\alpha$-and $\beta$-carotene in lactoovovegetarians. Reflection in serum and $\beta$-carotene was higher in nonvegetarians m than lactoovovegetarians. However, serum caro­t tene values were not significantly different between group after continous supplementation of reducing amounts of carotenes. Serm retionol levels were not changed throughout the study period and were not significantly different bet­w ween nonvegetarians and lactooovegetarians. The results suggest that serm total carotenoid cannot bean indicator of individual carotene such as $\alpha$-or $\beta$-carotene in serum and serum carotene levels are closely related to dietary carotene intake both in nonvegetartins and lac­t toovovegetanans

  • We made S.D male rats eat 3.6% tryptophan(trp) or tyrosine(thr)-enriched diet for 4 days and measured the trp or tyr use in serum of stressed rats as well as cortisol, glucose and free fatty acid(ffa) changes in serum. When control group had received stress treatment, their tyr level has dropped significantly but no changes in trp level and their cortisol, glucose, ffa levels in serum were increased significantly all together. Trp-enrichment alone can't change serum cortisol and ffa levels but trp pools in serum and brain enlarged by dietary enrichment. Trp-enriched group's serum glucose concentration was significantly lower than control-dieted group. When trp-enriched group received stress treatment, their responses to stress were different from control-dieted group. Serum trp concentration of trp-enriched-with-stress group has dropped significantly and cortisol level was increased significantly but not as much as control-dieted-with-stress group. Glucose and ffa levels of trp-enriched-with-stress group did not increase at all. Tyr-enriched group has also larger serum pool of tyr and lowest basal cortisol level in all three diet group. tyr-enriched group's and ffa levels were in normal range and those responses to stress were same pattern with control diet group. Most importantly in tyr-enriched-with-stress group, only slight but not significant increase of cortisol level was shown.

Correlations and Comparison among Swallowing Function, Dietary Level, Cognitive Function, Daily Living according to Characteristic in Stroke Patients with Dysphagia (삼킴장애가 있는 뇌졸중 환자의 특성에 따른 삼킴기능, 식이수준, 인지기능, 일상생활의 비교 및 상관관계)

  • This study was to investigate the correlation among swallowing function, dietary level, cognitive function, daily living, and comparison for general characteristics in stroke patients with dysphagia. Subjects of this study participated to 56 stroke patients with dysphagia. Outcome measures is evaluated by Functional Dysphagia Scale(FDS), and Amerian Speech-Language-Hearing Association National Outcomes Measurements System(ASHA NOMS), and Korean Mini-Mental State Examination(K-MMSE), and Korean Modified Barthel Index(K-MBI). Collected all data analyezed to independent t test for four assessments, and general characteristics of study subjects analyzed by pearson correlation coefficient for four assessments. Results of study, swallowing function according to lesion location differed significantly(p<.05). Cognitive function according to onset duration differed significantly(p<.05). Age of subjects and dietary level, cognitive function showed a significant correlation(p<.05). Swallowing function and dietary level, cognitive function showed a significant correlation(p<.05). Cognitive function and dietary level, daily living showed a significant correlation(p<.05). Based on current results, we suggest that swallowing rehabilitation for stroke patients with dysphagia performed with consideration for cognitive function and characteristic of patients.

The Effect of Dietary Fat Levels and Sources of Dietary Fiber on Serum and Liver Lipids of Rats (지방의 섭취량과 첨가된 섬유소의 종류가 흰쥐의 체내 지질 수준에 미치는 영향)

  • The effect of fiber sources on lipid metabolism was investigated in relation to the level of dietary fat. After rats were fed each diet for 4 weeks, all animals were sacrificed to collect the liver, and blood samples by heart puncture. Total lipid, total cholesterol, phospholipid and HDL- cholesterol were determined in serum. Total lipid and total cholesterol were also determined in liver. These results were compared with the histochemical appearances by the method of Oil red-O staining. Higher level of fat in the diet appeared to increase the total lipid levels in serum and more fat in the liver cells were shown from the high fat diet judging from the E.M. pictures. Phospholipid concentration in serum was greater in the rats of high fat groups than those of the control or non-fat groups. High fat level caused to decrease the HDL- cholesterol concentration in serum. Pectin decreased serum and liver lipids and the deposit of fat in the liver cells. HDL-cholesterol levels in serum was increased by pectin. Whereas the cellulose supplementation had no effect to reduce serum and liver total lipid levels, and cellulose did not decreased the deposit of fat in the liver cells. From these results, it is concluded that dietary fat levels led to changes in the lipid metabolism of rats and pectin may exhibit a lowering total lipid contents in serum and liver. Cellulose may slightly elevate serum and liver levels, or have no lowering effect.

Effect of Dietary Selenium and Fish oil on Lipid Peroxidation and Fatty Acid Profile in the Rat (식이 셀레늄 수준과 식이 지방산 조성이 쥐의 지질과 산화 상태와 조직의 지방산 조성에 미치는 영향)

  • The influence of selenuium deficiency and fish oil on lipid peoxidation status and fatty acid composition of tissues(plasma aorta and liver) was studied. Male Sprague Dawley rats were fed for eight weeks semipurified diets containing 7% corn oil(by weight) or 5, 5% fish oil(MaxEPA) plus 1.5% corn oil with oil with or without selenium status (glutathione peroxidase activity and selenium levels) were significantly lower in the rats given inadequate selenium in plasma aorta (p<0.02 and p<0.001 respectively) gut not that in plasma Selenium supplementation decreased hepatic MDA levels(p<0.02) Increases in the levels of 20:5(n-3) 22:5(n-3), 22:6(n-3) 20:3(n-6) and a decrease in the level of 20:4(n-6) were observed in plasma total lipids and aortic and hepatic phospholipids when fish oil was fed. Though selenium supplementation increased the level of n-3 fatty acids(such as 22:6(n-3)) in plsama and the aorta is overall effect was smaller than the effect of fish oil feeding. These data suggest that selenium may play a significant but minor role in protecting against lipid peroxide-tion even when vitamin E intakes are in excess of current recommendations in both corn oil and fish oil diets.
