Effects of elevation and canopy openness on a dwarf bamboo (Sasa quelpaertensis Nakai) vegetation and their consumer communities (고도와 수관부 유무가 제주조릿대 군락과 소비자 군집에 미치는 영향)

  • We investigated the tritrophic interactions associated with elevation and openness of dwarf bamboo (Sasa quelpaertensis Nakai) vegetation on Mt. Halla, Jeju Island. The interactions between dwarf bamboo plants and its consumers were investigated in four study sites with and without canopy along the elevation gradient. The ecological traits of dwarf bamboo included leaf area, water content, nitrogen content and carbon/nitrogen ratio. Arthropods were collected using a sweeping net and they were later divided into three different feeding guilds: herbivorous, omnivorous and predators. We found that the elevation and canopy openness on dwarf bamboo vegetation was positively related and as elevation increased and canopy opened, the bamboo densities and C/N ratio increased. However, the leaf area, water content and the N content decreased. The study sites with closed canopy indicated a relatively higher species richness of arthropods including insects. We concluded that the tritrophic interactions is closely related to the ecological characteristics of the dwarf bamboos, which is affected by elevation and canopy openness.

  • Drought is one of the mai or environmental disasters. Weather data, particularity rainfall, are currently the primary source of information widely used for drought monitoring. However, weather data are often from a very sparse meteorological network. Therefore, data obtained from the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer(AVHRR) sensor boarded on the NOAA polar-orbiting satellites have been studied as a tool for drought monitoring. The normalized difference vegetation index(NDVI) and vegetation condition index(VCI) were used in this study. Also, a simple method to detect drought Is Proposed based on climatic water balance using NOAA/AVHRR data. The results clearly show that temporal and spatial characteristics of drought in Korea can be detected and mapped by the moisture index.

Landscape Scale Ecosystem Evaluation for Sustainable Landuse Planning (지속가능한 토지이용을 위한 경관규모 생태계평가기법 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the ecosystem soundness in landscape scale using landscape indices, and to extract regional information that can be used for sustainable landuse planning. About BongWha-gun, the landcover classification using Landsat TM images and patch analysis ware carried out, and some landscape indices were calculated using geographic information system(GIS) and patch analyst program. As the results of this study, Seokpo, Jaesan and Sochun got higher scores in landscape indices related to the ecosystem soundness. But, Bonghwa-eup got lowest scores in the 10 regions. When compared with normalized difference vegetation index(NDVI), this result showed consistency to some degree. Although, there needs more supplementary studies, it is anticipated that landscape scale ecosystem evaluation using landscape indices can gives us some informations related to sustainable landuse planning.

Topographical change of sandbar and vegetation settlement in Jang-Hang wetlands for Han River Estuary Wetlands Restoration (한강 하구 습지복원을 위한 장항습지의 사주 지형변화 및 식생정착)

  • Estuary is unique habitat ground under substantial changes of water quality, river side, bed material, and micro topography. Construction of SinGok underwater weir with excessive dredging for downstream of weir has changed hydraulic conditions of Han River. This study investigates spatial changes of estuary and expansion process of vegetation on sandbar for JangHang estuary in Han River through analysis of physical and ecological characteristics. As a result of investigation, we found that area of sandbar in JangHang estuary is expanded six times compared between 1985 and 2006, and area of Phragmites australis is gradually decreased while area of Salix subfragilis Anderson. is increased. Also the analysis result of soil layer shows that the Jang-Hang wetlands are created by effect from river, and woody plants are settled from middle part of wetlands, then spread to upper and lower part of wetlands.

Carbon Storage Estimation of Urban Area Using KOMPSAT-2 Imagery (KOMPSAT-2호 위성영상을 이용한 도시지역 탄소저장량 추정)

  • Recently Korean government announced the vision for low-carbon green growth. Quantifying of the carbon storage, distribution, and change of urban trees is vital to understanding the role of vegetation in the urban environment. In the city planning the carbon storage estimation has become an important factor. In this paper, KOMPSAT-2 satellite imagery was used to develop a method to predict the urban forest carbon storage from the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) computed from a time sequence image data. The total carbon storage change by trees in the 6 administrative zonings of Jinju was estimated using the image data in 2007 and 2009. Therefore the paper presents a method based on the satellite images, which can estimate the spread of urban tree and carbon storage variation using KOMPSAT-2.

Estimation of Single Vegetation Volume Using 3D Point Cloud-based Alpha Shape and Voxel (3차원 포인트 클라우드 기반 Alpha Shape와 Voxel을 활용한 단일 식생 부피 산정)

  • In this study, information on vegetation was collected using a point cloud through a 3-D Terrestrial Lidar Scanner, and the physical shape was analyzed by reconfiguring the object based on the refined data. Each filtering step of the raw data was optimized, and the reference volume and the estimated results using the Alpha Shape and Voxel techniques were compared. As a result of the analysis, when the volume was calculated by applying the Alpha Shape, it was overestimated than reference volume regardless of data filtering. In addition, the Voxel method to be the most similar to the reference volume after the 8th filtering, and as the filtering proceeded, it was underestimated. Therefore, when re-implementing an object using a point cloud, internal voids due to the complex shape of the target object must be considered, and it is necessary to pay attention to the filtering process for optimal data analyzed in the filtering process.

Analysis of changes in cross section and flow rate due to vegetation establishment in Naeseong stream (내성천 하도 내 식생활착에 의한 단면 및 유량변화 분석)

  • In the present study, hydrologic data and topographical data from 2010 to 2019 were collected from three gauging stations placed in the watershed of Naeseong stream to determine changes and rates of changes in rainfall, water level & mean velocity, and water level & discharge, together with changes in rates of erosion and deposition at cross-sections of the river. Besides, effects of regulated and non-regulated rivers according to the presence of artificial regulation of flow rate of the river via artificial structure located at Seo stream (Yeongju si (Wolhogyo) station), the tributary free from construction of dams, were compared and analyzed. Results of analyses conducted in the present study revealed vegetational establishment and landforming due to increasing area of vegetational sandbar evolved in the flood plain (intermediate- or high- water level) by the drought sustained from 2013 to 2015. Continuous erosion of river bed was appeared because of narrowed flow area with low water level and increased velocity and tractive force on river bed.

Numerical Simulation of Sand Bars downstream of Andong Dam (안동댐 하류 하천에서 사주의 재현 모의)

  • This study examined the physical effects on the river changes downstream of Andong dam and simulated the reproduction of sand bars and the geomorphic changes numerically. The river bed downstream of Aandong dam and Imha dam was decreased and the mean diameter of bed materials was increased, and the number of lower channels was increased. The vegetated area was slightly increased after Andong dam construction. Moreover, the area was abruptly increased after Imha dam construction. The bankfull discharges was estimated to 580 $m^3/s$ after the dams construction and 2,857 $m^3/s$ before the dams. A flood mitigation safety by the dams construction considering return period was increased to 5 to 10 times. As a result of meso-scale regime analysis by using banfull discharge, the regime between single bars and multiple row bars before the dams construction was changed to completely the regime of multiple row bars after the dams. The numerical simulation results showed that the sand bars and lower channels were developed before the dams, and braided river was developed after the dams. This meant that the patterns of sand bars was changed by variable discharge due to the dams construction.

Study on the characteristics of the Tamjin River basin by the verification of the Jangheung Dam discharge (장흥댐 방류량 검증을 통한 탐진강 유역 유출 특성 변화 연구)

  • 현재 우리나라는 기후변화가 심화되고 강우의 불확실성이 높아지면서 자연 재해와 홍수 피해가 증가하고 있고 이에 따른 댐이나 보 운영의 고도화가 요구되고 있다. 특히 댐의 경우 다양한 원인에 의해 상류와 하류에서 홍수 피해가 빈번하게 발생하기도 하며, 방류 조절에 따라 담수 유입으로 인한 해수의 염도 변화나 수질 오염 등의 결과를 야기시킨다. 따라서 효율적인 댐 운영을 위해서는 방류량에 대한 지속적인 검증 측정이 필요하며, 유역 내 상하류 유출 특성 변화에 대한 모니터링이 요구된다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 탐진강 유역에 위치한 장흥군(별천교)관측소와 장흥군(예양교)관측소를 대상으로 가동보 운영과 식생영향, 취수영향, 공사에 따른 수위-유량관계 변화를 분석하였다. 탐진강 최상류에 위치한 장흥군(별천교)관측소의 경우 2013년 이후 유량조사가 이루어지지 않아 2021년 하류 가동보 수문 운영 조건과 수중식생 영향, 취입보 운영 조건에 따른 변화를 모니터링하고 유량측정을 실시하여 수위-유량관계의 변동성을 분석하였다. 또한 탐진강 하류에 위치한 장흥군(예양교)관측소는 기존 설치되어 있던 상하류 가동보에 대해 철거공사가 금년 진행되었으며, 이에 따른 지속적인 모니터링과 유량측정을 통해 흐름 특성 변화를 분석하였다. 추가로 저평수기와 홍수기에 장흥댐 수문 방류량에 대한 검증 측정을 수행하여 고시된 방류량과 실측된 방류량을 각각 적용하여 탐진강 유역 유출 특성 변화에 대해 분석하였다. 결과적으로 본 연구에서는 탐진강 유역 하천 내의 보 운영과 식생, 취수, 공사영향에 따른 모니터링과 유량측정을 통해 신뢰도 높은 수위-유량관계곡선식을 개발하였고, 이를 통해 생산된 유량자료는 정확도가 매우 높은 것으로 분석되었다. 또한 장흥댐 수문 방류량에 대해 실제 측정된 방류량을 유출 분석에 적용한 결과 향상된 결과를 보였으며 정상적인 상하류 관계를 나타냈다.

Study on the Restoration Method of DMZ Barren Land through the Application of Native Plants (자생식물 적용을 통한 DMZ 불모지 복원공법 연구)

  • 지속가능한 DMZ 일원의 생태복원 추진을 위해 DMZ 생태교란지에서 복원공법 모니터링을 실시하였다. 본 실험은 강원도 인제군, 철원군 및 경기도 연천군의 DMZ 내(450m2)에서 진행되었으며, 흰민들레, 구절초, 매발톱, 질경이, 꿀풀이 공시식물로 사용되었다. 각 대상지의 식생유형별 시공방법에 따른 침입종 억제효과를 알아보기 위해 2022년 4월부터 9월까지 일반식생기반재와 특수식생기반재로 처리된 실험구의 전체 피도, 도입종 피도, 침입종 피도, 초장, 출현종 등을 측정하였다. 전체 피도는 세 곳 모두 일반 기반재보다 특수기반재에서 더 높게 나타났으나 대상지에 따라 침입종 피도가 미치는 영향은 달랐다. 도입종의 피도는 인제, 철원, 연천에서 동일하게 흰민들레가 가장 높은 수치를 보였고, 특수기반재에서 보다 높은 피도를 보였다. 폭염 및 폭우로 6월 이후 흰민들레가 감소하면서 구절초, 매발톱의 피도가 점차 증가하였으며 기반재 간의 큰 차이는 없었으나 일부 지역에서는 구절초 피도가 특수기반재보다 일반기반재에서 더 높게 나타났다. 또한, 모든 지역에서 질경이와 꿀풀의 생장은 미미하였다. 같은 처리를 했음에도 대상지별로 소재식물의 출현 여부, 생장률, 침입종의 피도 등이 다른 것으로 보아 복원지의 환경 여건에 따라 적용해야 하는 종, 시공방법, 주변 완충지역의 범위 등에 차이를 두어야 할 것으로 보인다.
