An outbreak of the onion thrips, Thrips tabaci, was observed in welsh onion cultured in greenhouse during winter season (Jan ~ Feb). The thrips was identified using DNA barcode. Weekly occurrence was around 240 ~ 700 adults per trap. Trap color gave significant influence on the capture efficiency with a preference on yellow compared to blue sticky trap. Subsequently, most (> 90%) onions exhibited a damage symptom induced by the thrips. This outbreak was observed only in a specific area but not in nearby greenhouses. This discontinuous occurrence pattern was further investigated by analyzing flight behavior through in- and out- door tests. About 1.5 mm-body length adults could jump up to about 5 cm and fly up to 2 m in altitude, which was the top of the greenhouse. This suggested their migrating potential to nearby (< 2 m) greenhouses. However, few were detected in the neighboring places probably due to physical hindrance with low temperatures between greenhouses. This is reasoned why the onion thrips forms a patch distribution among greenhouses during winter season.

Organic farming (OF) is regarded as alternative farming types against general farming system for sustainable agriculture, recently. However, there is little information on effects of OF on soil properties and watershed condition. In order to determine the effects of OF on soil properties, 36, 10 and 8 sites of organic farming (OF) fields of plastic film houses, paddy and orchard were selected in the national scale, respectively, to evaluate their chemical properties and phosphorus distributing characteristics. The average organic matter (OM) contents in organic farming fields were with $44g\;kg^{-1}$ in plastic film houses, $26g\;kg^{-1}$ in paddies and $39g\;kg^{-1}$ in orchard soils higher than the average OM contents in conventional farming (CF) soils. Available phosphates were accumulated to 986 in plastic film house soils and $754mg\;kg^{-1}$ in orchard soils, respectively, over the optimum range. Furthermore, total P (T-P) reached to $2.973mg\;kg^{-1}$ in plastic film houses and $2303mg\;kg^{-1}$ in orchards in OF soils. It could be attained by applying repeatedly low N/P ratio of manure-based compost. In two types of soils inorganic P was dominant with the ratio of 62~80% of T-P, and then residual and organic Ps followed. However. residual-P was dominant in paddy soils with the rate of 50% of T-P. Fractionation of soil extractable P showed that Ca-P was dominant with about $1,330mg\;kg^{-1}$ in upland soils in OF fields, which is affected by high soil pH of over 6.0. However. Fe-P of extractable P was dominant in paddy soils. Water-soluble P was very high with 65 and $26mg\;kg^{-1}$ in plastic film house and orchard soils in OF. From this results. OF regarded as an environment-friendly farming system may cause serious soil deterioration by accumulated phosphorus and may also cause water pollution.

To investigate occurrence of root-knot nematode (RKN) in plastic house of central area of Korea, 132 soil samples were collected in cucumber, water melon, tomato, red pepper and strawberry fields from 2013 to 2015. Among 132 soil samples, 65 soil samples (49%) were infested with RKN and mean density of RKN was 178 second-stage juveniles per $100cm^3$ soil (min. 1 ~ max. 3,947). The frequency of RKN by regional was the highest in Chuncheon with 80%, followed by Cheonan (68%), Nonsan (36%), Buyeo (33%) and Yesan (30%). The frequency of RKN by crops was the highest in tomato with 83%, followed by cucumber (61%), strawberry (41%), red pepper (30%), watermelon (26%). To identify the species of RKN, fifteen populations were selected for representative populations. As a phylogenetic analysis of 15 populations, southern root-knot nematode (Meloidogyne incognita), peanut root-knot nematode (M. arenaria) and northern root-knot nematode (M. hapla) were identified with 47%, 20% and 33% ratio, respectively. In crops, M. incognita, M. arenaria and M. hapla were detected in tomato, M. incognita and M. arenaria were detected in cucumber and watermelon, and M. hapla was detected in strawberry and lettuce. Thus, there should be a continuous management to major species of each crops to prevent dispersal of RKN damages.

This study was conducted to obtain the basic data on agricultural use of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi(AMF) in salt accumulated plastic film house soil by evaluating the density of AMF spores in plastic film house in Yeong Nam area and surface sterility condition, germination rate of AMF spores, and hyphal growth in vitro. The density of AMF spores in plastic film house soils was highest in the site of water melon, and those of cucumber, melon, hot pepper sites were followed in order. The number of AMF was in the range of 101-207 per 100 g dry soil. With decreasing the ratio of bacteria to fungi(B/F), the population density of AMF was increased, and available $P_2O_5$ content of soil was significantly correlated to the population densities of AMF($r=0.416^*$). The surface sterility rate and spore germination of AMF isolated in plastic film house soil were more than 50% in 2% chloramin T and 2% chloramin T + antibiotic and 0.5% NaOCl treatments. The germination rate of Gigaspora margarita in the range of initial pH 5~9 of the medium was more than 56%. Hyphal growth was increased as pH of the medium increased. However the germination rate of Acaulospora spinosa was highest in the medium of pH 9, and hyphal growth in vitro was poor and not related to pH of the medium.
Heavy application of fertilizer and manure in excess from the optimum requirement for crop growth can increase phosphorus (P) accumulation and P release potential in soils. In this study, the relationship between soil test P and 0.01M $CaCl_2$ extractable P was analysed to evaluate the P release potential of agricultural soils under different land-use. The paddy, upland, plastic film house(PFH) soils were sampled from Tongyoung and Changnyeong, and Daegok areas in Gyeongnam province, respectively. With respect to the P accumulation, available P contents in upland and PFH soils were 619 and 796 mg $P_2O_5$/kg, respectively indicating that different land-use types can greatly impact soil P accumulation. As soil available P was increased in the paddy soil, the content of 0.01M $CaCl_2$ extractable P also linearly increased without change point. Comparatively, P threshold were detected at 520 mg $P_2O_5$/kg in both upland and PFH soils, indicating that P release potential were higher in these land-use systems. For reducing P release from agricultural soils, management of optimum P content is needed in soils possessing high P release potential. Further, the change point value, if it is to be used as an environmental indicator, requires more detailed investigation to cover a wide range of soil characteristics.

Jeju where concentrates on agriculture and tourism, conversion of outdoor culture into cultivation under structure happens actively for the purpose of increasing profit so continuous examination on house cultivation area is very important for this region. This paper is to suggest the effective image classification method using high resolution satellite image to detect the greenhouse. We carried out classification of greenhouse using the supervised classification and rule-based classification method about Formosat-2 images. Connecting result of two classification try to find accuracy improvement for greenhouse detection. Results about each classification method were calculated the accuracy by comparing with the result of visual detection. As a result, mahalanobis distance among the supervised methods was resulted in the highest detection. Also, it could be checked that detection accuracy was improved by tying with result of supervised method and result of rule-based classification. Therefore, it was expected that effective detection of greenhouse would be feasible if henceforward further study is performed in the process of connecting supervised classification and rule-based classification.
Species and races of root-knot nematodes in greenhouses in southern Korea were investigated and a simple identification scheme was provided. Among 23 populations of root-knot nematodes, Meloidogyne arenaria race 2 was 59%, M. incognita race 1 was 23%, and an unknown race of M. incognita was 18%. Total length of M. arenaria juveniles was 411㎛(306-503㎛) and that of M. incognita was 384㎛(312-488㎛); however, the ranges of two species were overlapped and could not be used to distinguish the two species. Excretory pore in female head was a consistent character to differentiate M. arenaria and M. incognita.
Monitoring of pesticide residues were conducted at three sites in the Southern Area of Seoul, Korea (Gang-nam, Gang-dong and Song-pa). We measured pesticide residues within soil samples using multi-pesticide residues analysis. Samples were collected at the three sites with 60 sampling spots. The amount of pesticide residues in the soil samples were as follows [(minimum-maximum), mg/kg] endosulfan 0.002-0.999, procymidone 0.002-1.200, diazinon 0.003-0.024, metalaxyl 0.012-0.075. In soil treated with 0.445 mg/kg of endosulfan, the pesticide absorbed by chamnamul, was 0.157 mg/kg (Absorption rate : 35.3%). However, in soil treated with 0.358 mg/kg of endosulfan, the pesticide absorbed by lettuce, was 0.004 mg/kg (Absorption rate : 1.1%).
