  • In the paper, we propose efficient article and scene change detection algorithms to make the index of sports news compressed in MPEG-2 domain. In the proposed algorithm, the information in MPEG-2 compressed domain is directly used without decoding to save the computation time. The scene change detection algorithm is constructed in an hierarchical method so that the time for detection can be greatly reduced. Also, the algorithm can provide the robust detection against abrupt illuminance change because the luminance and chrominance components are simultaneously considered. Also, the scene change caused by special effect such as dissolve and wipe can be detected in the compressed domain. In the article detection, the algorithm is constructed for robust detection of the anchor frame using the concept of CCV(Color Coherent Vector).

  • The optimization of a centrifugal compressor was conducted. The ANN (Artificial Neural Network) was adopted as an optimization algorithm, and it was learned and trained with the DOE (Design of Experiment). In the DOE, it was predicted the main effect and the interaction effect of design variables to the objective function. The ANN was improved in the optimization process using the GA (Genetic Algorithm). When any output at each generation was reached a standard level, it was re-calculated by the CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) and it was applied to develop a new ANN. After 6th generation, the prediction difference between ANN and CFD was less than 1%. A pareto of the efficiency versus the pressure ratio was obtained through the 21th generation. Using this method, the computational time for the optimization was equivalent to the time consumed by the gradient method, and the optimized results of multi-objective function were obtained.

  • This paper proposes a motion-video multimedia system needed for computer applications like remote lecturing, distance learning, product demonstrations, and so on. The applications need a multimedia system which can author and play a motion-Video that is composed with computer screen images and audio continuously varing as time flows, not with real motion videos. Since the computer screen images are not like the real world video images in several rejects, MPEG is not competent as a compression algorithm for computer screen images raring continuously In this paper a new compression algorithm has been proposed, and a multimedia system that authors and plays a motion-video file which contains computer screen images and audio has been implemented. Also this paper shows the result of performance evaluation of both the compression algorithm and the multimedia system implemented in the paper.

  • Cracking due to material behavior like drying shrinkage easily occurs since tensile strength in concrete is very low at initial curing stage. In this paper, workability such as air content and slump was evaluated on CFC(Cellulose Fiber Concrete) with 0.0 ~ 2.0% of fiber addition, and the tests for tensile/compressive strength were performed. With increasing addition ratio of fiber, air content and slump kept similar level to 1.0kg/㎥ of addition ratio, and this trend was effective to 2 hours after mixing. Strength was enhanced with increasing addition ratio, which showed 7.0 ~ 9.0% for compressive strength and 7.0 ~ 22.0% for tensile strength, respectively. The tensile strength increased relatively more, which show the addition of cellulose fiber was very effective to crack resistance. The workability in CFC can be guaranteed for 2 hours in the following conditions like 2 minutes of mixing period and 1.0kg/㎥ of addition ratio of fiber.

  • In this paper, $256{\times}256$ input image is classified into a validity block and an edge block of $8{\times}8$ block for image compression. DCT(Discrete Cosine Transform) is executed only for the DC coefficient that is validity coefficients for a validity block. Predict the position where a quantization coefficient becomes 0 for an edge block, I propose new algorithm to execute DCT in the reduced region. Not only this algorithm that I proposed reduces computational complexity of FDCT(Forward DCT) and IDCT(Inverse DCT) and decreases encoding time and decoding time. I let compressibility increase by accomplishing other stability verticality zigzag scan by the block size that was classified for each block at the time of huffman encoding each. In addition, the algorithm that I suggested reduces Run-Length by accomplishing the level verticality zigzag scan that is good for a classified block characteristic and, I offer the compressibility that improved thereby.

  • This research assesses the mechanical properties of concrete, utilizing both normal and lightweight aggregates, through measurements of compressive strength and ultrasonic pulse velocity. The study observed that concrete with normal aggregates exhibited higher compressive strength in its initial stages, whereas concrete with lightweight aggregates showed increased strength over time, likely attributed to the higher water absorption rate of lightweight aggregates. Ultrasonic pulse velocity generally registered higher in normal aggregate concrete, barring a specific duration, presumably due to variations in the internal pore structure of the aggregates. The correlation coefficient(R2) for the strength prediction equation, derived from the relationship between compressive strength and ultrasonic pulse velocity, exceeds 0.95. This high correlation suggests that the predictive equation based on these experimental findings is a reliable method for estimating concrete strength.

  • The present study examined the effect of the silica-based accelerating agents on the setting time and compressive strength gain of biomimetic glycocalix coating materials that has been developed for protecting the substrate of concrete exposed to chemical and microbiological attacks. The accelerating agent contents varied from 10mL/L to 40mL/L in the mixtures of glycocalix coating materials determined for shotcrete and lining techniques. Test results showed that the setting time of coating materials containing accelerating agents was affected by the contents of the bacteria carrier. When the accelerating agent content was 40mL/L, the final setting time was 80 minutes for shotcrete mixtures and 318 minutes for lining mixtures. Meanwhile, the compressive strength gain of coating materials with accelerating agents tended to be lower than that of counterpart materials without accelerating agents.

  • When $Al_2(SO_4)_3$ as an accelerator was added to $\beta$-hemihydrate gypsum, the setting time, mobility and compressive strength properties of $\beta$-hemihydrate gypsum were examined with the adding of two types grounded gypsum crushed by ball mill. By 15wt% adding of 7% $Al_2(SO_4)_3$ dilute solution, the setting time of $\beta$-hemihydrate gypsum was sharply accelerated than that of non-added $\beta$-hemihydrate gypsum. When ground phospho gypsum(PG) and chemical gypsum(CG) were added to $\beta$-hemihydrate gypsum, the initial and final setting time of $\beta$-hemihydrate gypsum were accelerated markedly with the increasing of grinding time and added amount of ground phospho gypsum. Especially, this trend largely presented when ground phospho gypsum was added to $\beta$-hemihydrate gypsum. The compressive strength of $\beta$-hemihydrate gypsum added by ground phospho and chemical gypsum was largely increased at initial curing time such as 1, 3 days. Particularly, the compressive strength of $\beta$-hemihydrate gypsum added by ground phospho gypsum was increased by 15~20% than that of ground chemical gypsum.

  • Despite a number of advantages of reinforced earth walls over conventional concrete retaining walls, there exist concerns over long-term residual deformation when subjected to repeated and/or cyclic loads, especially when used as part of permanent structures. In view of these concerns, in this paper time-dependent deformation characteristics of geosynthetic reinforced soil under sustained and/or repeated loads were investigated using a series of plane strain compression tests on geogrid reinforced weathered granite soil specimens. The results indicate that sustained or repeated loads can yield appreciable magnitudes of residual deformations, and that the residual deformations are influenced not only by the loading characteristics but by the mechanical properties of geogrid. It is also found that the preloading technique can be effectively used in controlling residual deformations of reinforced soils subjected to sustained and/or repeated loads.

  • This paper presents experimental results for early-age properties of concrete such as the setting time and strength, evaluated via the ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV). Developing and using an automatically-recording monitoring system, the UPV's of mortar and concrete with various water to binder ratios (W/B) were measured during the first 24 hours. In addition, probe penetration and compression tests were conducted to measure the setting time and compressive strength, respectively. It was observed that the UPV's of mortar with high W/B remained constant during the first 6.5 hours and then abruptly began to increase at constant rates. On the other hand, the UPV of mortar with low W/B increased relatively slowly and gradually due to the setting retardation caused by the use of high range water reducing agent (HRWR). It was found that setting of concrete occurs when the UPV reaches a certain value. Moreover, it was concluded that the estimation formulas should incorporate the effects of W/B to more accurately estimate the early-age strength of concrete from the UPV.
