In this paper, advanced evacuation analysis simulation on a passenger ship is performed. Velocity based model has been implemented and used to calculate the movement of the individual passengers under the evacuation situation. The age and gender of each passenger are considered as the factors of walking speed. Flocking algorithm is applied for the passenger's group behavior. Penalty walking velocity is introduced to avoid collision between the passengers and obstacles, and to prevent the position overlap among passengers. Application of flocking algorithm and penalty walking velocity to evacuation simulation is verified through implementation of the 11 test problems in IMO (International Maritime Organization) MSC (Maritime Safety Committee) Circulation 1238.

Pedestrian movement of passengers using smart card within stations can be divided into three types of activities - straight ride and alight, line transfer, and station transfer. Straight ride and alight is transfer activity for which the card terminal and embarking line are identical. In this case, straight ride occurs at the origin station and straight alight occurs at the destination station. Line transfer refers to activity in which the subway line embarked on by the passenger is different from that which is disembarked. Succinctly, line transfer is transfer at a middle station, rather than at origin or destination stations. Station transfer occurs when the card terminal line and embarking line are different. It appears when station transfer happens at the origin station as starting transfer, and at the destination station as destination transfer. In the case of Metropolitan smart card data, origin and destination station card terminal line number data is recorded, but subway line data does not exist. Consequently, transportation card data, as it exists, cannot adequately be used to analyze pedestrian movement as a whole in subway stations. This research uses the smart card data, with its constraints, to propose an analysis model for passenger pedestrian movement within subway stations. To achieve this, a path selection model is constructed, which links origin and destination stations, and then applied for analysis. Finally, a case study of the metropolitan subway is undertaken and pedestrian volume analyzed.
To increase the safety of onboard evacuation of guests who is unfamiliar with onboard living conditions, this study measured and compared the onboard walking speeds of 81 participants on a passenger ship, I t were found that the walking speeds at corridor on navigation were slower than those at berth by 27.2%, and the speeds of walking on the corner on navigation were slower than those at berth by 23.2%. This means that the ship motion on navigation directly influenced walking speeds. The walking speeds of upward-stairs and downward-stairs were measured to be 0.71m/s and 0.75m/s, respectively. From the crowd counter-flow experiments, because of the narrow space between participants, the walking speeds were decreased as person after person. And it was clear that the group's walking speeds were determined by the walking speeds of leading person(s) of the group. The walking speeds obtained this study were different from those of IMO guideline(MSC/Circ 1033).
The mass transit networks in Korea, such as buses, metro and subway, are co-related and the number of transfer points, in which a lot of pedestrian movement is generated, are rising. The functions of the transfer centers, in which several travel modes cross at a point, have to include convenience and comfort for pedestrians using the transfer centers, and such functions can make transit a more attractive travel option and thus eventually contribute to increases in ridership. However, the guidelines for station layouts and their assessments in transfer stations are not suggested so far. So the pedestrian pattern data (pedestrian walking distances and times, pedestrian approaching distances and times, pedestrian walking paths in the inside of stations) was collected and analyzed. Based on the results of the analysis, the ways to measure the quality of comfort for those who using transfer facilities were suggested using the times that pedestrians consume to transfer from a travel mode to another. The walking time of pedestrians at the inside of stations was also measured by pre-selected pedestrian pathways as the guidelines for station layout assessment in transfer facilities.

Under the conditions of invested actual changes of heeling angles during MV Sewol's sinking, this study proposes passengers' evacuation scenarios, which are based on the assumption of normal orders of evacuation being given to the passengers, and evaluates using a marine-specialized human evacuation simulation tool. As results, when the heeling angle is set as 0 degree or 30 degree, it is found out that almost every passengers can success to evacuate to the musterstations, even though the evacuation times are different depending on the scenarios and the walking speeds. Meanwhile, when the heeling angle is varied as the Sewol incident, 3.1 %(Scenario Sc-Va which set chutes on port side as evacuation routes), 11.1 %(Sc-Vb, every open decks of port side as evacuation routes) and 20.0 %(Sc-Vc, every open decks of port and AFT sides as evacuation routes) among 476 passengers can successfully reach to the musterstations from their cabins with the condition of average walking speed as 2.04 m/s on flat. And only 0.8 %(Sc-Va), 3.8 %(Sc-Vb) and 10.7 %(Sc-Vc) can success to evacuate with the condition of average walking speed as 1.48 m/s on flat.
As the number of pedestrian accident increases, the reconstruction of an accident becomes important to find the source of the fault. Generally, accidents are reconstructed by the intuition of experts or primitive physics. A reconstruction method is proposed using sophisticated optimization technology. At first, a dynamic simulation model is established for the accident environment. Occupant analysis for automobile crashworthiness is employed. The situation before an accident is identified by optimization. The impact velocity and the position of the pedestrian are utilized as design variables. The design variables are found by minimizing the difference between the simulation and the real accident. The optimization process is performed by linking an occupant analysis program MADYMO to an optimization program VisualDOC. Since the involved analysis is dynamics and highly nonlinear, response surface method is selected for the optimization process. Problems are solved for various situations.
