We described the vegetation of a disturbed lagoon wetland in relation to water and soil environments in Kungae lagoon reclaimed 30 years ago. Water depth and soil organic matter showed a great spatial heterogeneity in Kungae wetland which was changed into a freshwater marsh by the dike construction. Detrended canonical correspondence analysis suggested that differences in vegetation structure were primarily the result of variation in water depth or microtopography and soil organic matter Various emergent vegetations were developed in the wetland: species such as Phragmites australis, Calamagrostis epigeios, Carex dispalata and Lythrum anceps in a wide area, hydrophyes such as Typha angustifolia and Scirpus tabernaemontani at the low elevation with deep water, ruderals such as Bidens frondosa and Persicaria perfoliata near upland with much soil organic matter and sand-dune vegetation such as Carex kobomugi, Diodia tens, Pinus thunbergii and Potentilla egedei var. groenlandica at the high elevation. These results suggest that development of a prototype for wetland restoration from vegetation analysis of other natural lagoons and restoration of natural water tables and hydrologic connections between the diked wetland and the sea are important in the disturbed Kungae wetland.
A coastal wetland is the important area of diverse biodiversity as a transitional zone between coast and land. The results of surveying the flora were recorded as 310 taxa; 85 families, 212 genera, 278 species, 27 varieties and 5 forma. The halophytes were 14 taxa; Atriplex gmelini, Salsola komarovii, Suaeda asparagoides and so forth. The hydrophytes and hygrophytes were 23 taxa; Boehmeria spicata, Persicaria hydropiper, Persicaria japonica and so forth. The naturalized plants were 40 taxa; Fagopyrum esculentum, Rumex crispus, Chenopodium ambrosioides and so forth. The specific plants for the floral region were 28 taxa; Pteris multifida, Cyrtomium fortunei, Dryopteris erythrosora and so forth. In future, the flora of coastal wetland will be analyzed in series, and community dynamics and species composition for the halophytes will be studied.
The Hangang river estuary, which is a natural estuary without structures such as estuary barrage, is an ecological pathway connecting the sea and rivers. Accordingly, Hangang river estuary has various species, and there is very valuable. Sediment classification in Hangang river estuary is three-dimensionally and diversely is distributed. Sediment classification in Hangang river estuary is also sensitively changed according to various factors such as climate change and river development. It is typically cause to landform and to develop a compound cross section. In Janghang wetland, the plant success is remarkable according to the morphological change at river bed. The purpose of this study is to identify the mechanism of wetland formation based on the observation on-site. As a result of the observation, Janghang wetland where was artificially created, has been grown according to the river bed change based on the flow rate and the plant success. The viscous surface layer material(fine grains of wash rod properties), which is not the main material(sand) of the river bed, but sub-materials of river bed, jas been settled on the pioneer plants(bolboschoenus planiculmis, etc.). It is an important role in the growth of a compound cross section and a wetland. After the wetland developed to the compound cross section, it is observed that the pioneer plants are transferred to other plant species.
In order to evaluate the role of macrophytes as refuge of zooplankton on physical distribution (i.e. summer rainfall), we investigated the environmental factors, macrophytes, and zooplankton in waterside zones (macrophytes zones) and open water zones of 17 wetlands from May and August, 2011. In this study, a total of 51 zooplankton species were identified, and Polyarthra sp. and Diaphanosoma brachyurum were found to be the most dominant species. Waterside area of each wetland were occupied by a total of 10 macrophyte species, species composition and biomass (dry weight) were different in the survey sites. Zooplankton was more abundant in waterside zone than open water zones lacking macrophytes (One-way ANOVA, df=2, F=27.1, P<0.05), in particular, waterside zone of 1, 8, 9, 10, and 11 wetland were supported by high zooplankton density after summer rainfall. This wetlands were developed by various macrophyte species than other wetland, and submerged plant commonly presented. Waterside zones with various macrophyte species provides complexity to the habitat structure, should be utilized as refuge to avoid disturbance such as summer rainfall. The results indicate that macrophytes are the key components to enhance bio-diversity include zooplankton, and the inclusion of diverse plant species in wetland construction or restoration schemes will result in ecologically healthy food webs.

In this study, we surveyed 6 times for the actual vegetation type and flora of Amgok wetland (Intermediate moor area, Alnus japonica community area) and it's watershed area in Tohamsan district, Gyeongju National Park from Apr. to Nov. in 2011. As a result of the actual vegetation type, most vegetation of watershed area was disturbed by human activity except wetland area. Even though the wetland is relatively broad compared with it's watershed, the wetland: watershed is around 1:10. The flora was surveyed 65 family, 184 species, 1 subspecies, 39 variety, 8 forma and totally 233 taxonomic group in the watershed. The wetland type was looked intermediate moor. Naturalized plants was surveyed 2taxonomic in the wetland area and total was17 taxonomic. This area has relatively broad wetland and soundly conserved. But several Salix koreensis and Acer ginnala are growing so needed the interest and monitoring.
Knowing how many species live in a ecosystem is a major work because of the distributions of species are determined by the environmental condition. This study was carried out to investigate the distribution of vascular plants of Gonggeom-ji, located in Sangju-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do, from April to October on 2012. The vascular plants were summarized as 240 taxa including 69 families, 176 genus, 204 species, 2 subspecies, 29 varieties, and 5 forma. Among the investigated taxa, 3 taxa of Korean endemic plants were included. Based on the list of specially designated plants by Ministry of Environment, 11 taxa including Alisma orientale, Monochoria korsakowii and Nymphoides peltata were recorded. The naturalized plants were identified as 26 taxa and the ratio of naturalized index (NI) was 10.8% of vascular plants recorded. 31 taxa of hydrophytes showed 17.8% of Korea. To conservation of wetlands, we suggest that it is required to minimize for unnecessary disturbance of human and to make a strategy for effective management by continuous monitoring for ecosystem alteration.
This study suggested a citizen science based model to enhance the efficacy of the managing invasive alien plants and examined whose applicability in 3 Wetland Protected Areas (Jangrok of Gwangju metropolitan city, Madongho of Goseong in South Gyeongsang Province, and Ungok of Gochang in North Jeolla Province). The process consists of (a) collecting citizen scientist including local residents of 3 protected areas and piling up information on the 4 species of invasive alien plants (Sicyos angulatus L., Solanum carolinense L., Ambrosia artemisiifolia L. and Solidago altissima L) in a information platform Ecological Information Bank (EcoBank) from September 18th to October 31th, (b) constructing distribution map containing the location and density (3 phases: individual-population-community) of target plants, (c) providing distribution map to Environment Agency and local government who is principal agent of managing invasive alien plants in 3 protected areas, and from whom (d) surveying applications of the distribution map and opinion for future supplement. As a result, citizen science based monitoring should be continued to complement the nationwide information for the field management of invasive alien plants with the expansion of target species (total 17 plants species that Ministry of Environment in South Korea designated) and period of monitoring in a year to increase the usability of surveyed information from citizen science. In the long run, effectiveness of the management of invasive alien species applied by citizen science should be reviewed including efficacy of field management process from citizen's participating in elimination project of invasive alien plants and time series distribution followed by the management of the species.

We investigated the area around four moors from May 2009 to June 2010 for plant diversity in Moojechineup, officially designated as the Ramsar wetland. The vascular plants of Moojechineup at Mt. Jeongjok were recorded as total 149 taxa, 55 families, 105 genera, 128 species, 1 subspecies, 16 varieties, and 4 forms. Rare plants were observed 7 taxa (Eriophorum gracile Koch, Drosera rotundifolia L., Iris ensata var. spontanea (Makino) Nakai, Kobresia bellardii (All.) Degl, Utricularia bifida L., Utricularia racemosa Wall., Utricularia yakusimensis Masam.). Korean endemic plants were 1 taxon, floristics special plants were 19 taxa, and naturalized plants were 3 taxa. Phytogeographical and evolutionarily, Eriophorum gracile is an important species; hence, further studies are needed to conserve it. Moojechineup is similar to the Shinbulsan wetland in terms of wetland plants (hydrophytes). Moojechineup's flora changes are in process slowly compared to earlier work; thus, continuing interest and appropriate measures should be encouraged.
Riverine wetlands are an important element of the river ecosystem and account for approximately 38% of the inland wetlands surveyed so far. The Shincheon Wetland located in Mangyeong River is also a channel wetland as the flow rate is slowed by the constructed weirs, leading to sediment accumulation. To identify the conservation value and ecological characteristics of Shincheon Wetland, its vegetation and plant diversity were identified using a phytosociological method, and a total of 45 vegetation-related datasets were collected. Overall, 24 plant communities, comprising a total of 153 taxa (49 families, 117 genera, 146 species, 2 subspecies, 5 varieties) were identified. The plant with the highest appearance rate in the communities was Humulus japonicus Siebold & Zucc. In addition, annual herb species, including Rumex crispus L., Bromusjaponicus Thunb., Erigeron annuus (L.) Pers., and Artemisia indica Willd. were frequently observed to be growing in the secondary grassland. Naturalized plants were surveyed in the 38 taxa; the urbanization index was 10.3% and the naturalized index was 24.8%. Plant communities were largely classified into submerged vegetation, floating and floating-leaved vegetation, annual and biennial vegetation, perennial herb vegetation, and woody vegetation. The distribution of plant communities reflecting various habitats, including the lentic and lotic zone maintaining a constant water depth, littoral zone experiencing intermittent water level fluctuations, and dry floodplain environment was also confirmed. Overall, plant community development plays an important role in the habitat for wild animals; therefore, it is expected to positively impact biodiversity enhancement.
