Design a Dual-band Microstrip Antenna using Slots (슬롯을 이용한 이중 대역 마이크로스트립 안테나 설계)

  • In this paper, a dual-band antenna aimed for a mobile communication repeater was designed and measured. The operating frequency ranges are GSM(870${\sim}$960 MHz) and WCDMA(1920${\sim}$2170 MHz) bands. Experimental and numerical studies are performed for various design variables such as slot lengths. Using two meandering slots in the ground plane, we can obtain two higher resonant frequencies significantly with broader bandwidths. The measured maximum gain of antenna is 2 dBi in the GSM band and 2.45 dBi in the WCDMA band.

  • This paper is about design of optimal structure of slot antenna array antenna with inner waveguide in accordance with the slot model, and fabrication of its prototype sample operating at the frequency of 24 GHz. Results of this work can be employed as a useful tool to develop and diversify slot antenna having superior performance and omni-directivity to that of current antenna. The implemented antenna demonstrates ultra-wideband performance for frequency ranges 24 GHz with the relatively high and flat antenna gain of 18.64dBi and low sidelobe levels. In addition, a $2{\times}8$ antenna array for phased-array systems and mm-wave sensor applications is also presented.

  • This paper presents a feeder waveguide array of slot array antennas for Direct Broadcasting from Satellite(DBS). The feed structure consists of a single waveguide placed on the same layer as radiating waveguide and is characterized by the unit divider, called a $\pi$-Junction. This K-function with an inductive wall splits part of the power into two branch waveguide through one coupling window, and can excite densely arrayed waveguide at equal phase and amplitude. The power dividing characteristics of a cascade of $\pi$ -functions are analyzed by Galerkin's method of moments. From the optimum simulation results based on the feeder waveguide using $\pi$ -Junction at 3.95GHz, we obtained the scattering matrices of the feeder divided power at 11.85CHz.

  • In the RFID system using ISM-band, The tag mounted at the object has used the DC power by rectifying the RF signals of the small antenna for operating the micro-controller and memory. The performance of the tag would be reduced because of the second harmonics generated by the nonlinearity of the semiconductor and the spurious signal excited the high order mode of the antenna. This paper has realized the novel type low-pass filter with "the Stub-I type DGS slot structure" to improve the efficiency of the tag by suppressing the harmonics. The optimized frequency character at the pass-band/stop-band has obtained by tuning the stub width and slit width of I type slot. The measured result of the LPF has the cutoff frequency 3.25 GHz, the insertion loss about -0.29~-0.3 dB at pass-band 2.4 GHz~2.5 GHz, the return loss about -27.688~-33.665 dB at pass-band with a good performance, and the suppression character is about -19.367 dB at second harmonics frequency 4.9 GHz. This DGS LPF may be applied the various application as the RFID, WLAN to improve the efficiency of the system by suppressing the harmonics and spurious signals. 

Study on a broadband quasi-Yagi antenna for mobile base station (이동통신 기지국용 광대역 quasi-Yagi 안테나에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, a method for the improvement in the gain and bandwidth of a microstrip-fed broadband planar quasi-Yagi antenna (QYA) is studied. The broadband characteristics of the QYA are achieved from the coplanar strip-fed planar dipole driver and a parasitic director close to the driver. In order to obtain stable gain variation over the required frequency band, a director and a ground reflector are appended to the driver having a nearby parasitic director. The QYA is fed through an integrated balun composed of a microstrip line and a slot line which are terminated in a short circuit. By adjusting the feeding point, a broadband impedance matching is obtained. A QYA with an operating frequency band of 1.75-2.7 GHz and a gain > 4.5 dBi is designed and fabricated on an FR4 substrate with dielectric constant of 4.4 and thickness of 1.6mm. The experimental results show that the fabricated antenna has good performance such as a broad bandwidth of 59.7%(1.55-2.87 GHz), a stable gain between 4.7-6.5 dBi, and a front-to-back ratio > 10 dB. The measured data agree well with the simulation, which validates this study.

A study on the Enhancement of Gain and Axial Ratio Bandwidth of the Multilayer CP-DRA (다층 CP-DRA의 이득 및 축비대역폭 증대에 관한 연구)

  • In this pater, a CP-DRA(Circularly Polarized Dielectric Resonator Antenna) using cross-slot-feed is studied to enhance the gain and axial ratio bandwidth. First, a single layer CP-DRA is studied as a reference for comparison. Then a new type of multilayer CP-DRA is proposed to enhance the gain and axial ratio bandwidth. In consideration of the antenna gain enhancement, the spacing between the elements of the multilayer CP-DRA is examined through analysis of the radiation performance of a 2$\times$2 planar amy of DRAs with a spacing of 0.7$\lambda_0$ and 1.2$\lambda_0$ using CST Microwave Studio. The measured result shows that the gain and bandwidth of the multilayer structure is approximately twice that of the single layer one. In the case of the array antenna in which the spacing between multilayer CP-DRA element is 1.2$\lambda_0$, a grating lobe is reduced, in contrast to what we can expect from a conventional antenna array. The gain is 13.4dBi and axial ratio bandwidth is 0.8GHz.

Design of a Multi-Band Antenna with CPWG Feed Line for the Telematics Mobile Device (Telematics 단말기를 위한 CPWG 급전방식 다중대역 안테나 설계 및 제작)

  • In this paper, the multi-band antenna with CPWG(Coplanar Waveguide with Ground) feed for telematics mobile devices is designed and fabricated. The proposed antenna improves the return loss characteristic by using open-circuited stub matching and rectangular slot in the radiation patch. In addition, CPWG structure makes up for the drawback of the CPW which is variation of impedance matching according to the gap variation of the feed line and the ground. The fabricated antenna has 1.4GHz ($1.43GHz{\sim}2.83GHz$, 65%) band width on -10dB (VSWR<2) and the maximum gains are 0.8dBi, 1.34dBi, 2.41dBi, 2.53dBi, 2.6dBi and 1.51dBi on each resonant frequency that are GPS $(1.564GHz{\sim}1.585GHz)$, PCS/DCS $(1.710GHz{\sim}1.984GHz)$, WCDMA $(2.170GHz{\sim}2300GHz)$, Bluetooth/Wi-Fi/WLAN $(2.4GHz{\sim}2.483GHz)$, WiBro $(2.3GHz{\sim}2.4GHz)$, SDMB $(2.605GHz{\sim}2.655GHz)$. It also has an omni-directional radiation pattern of H-Plane.

Design and Fabrication of Dual Linear Polarization Patch Antenna with Aperture Coupled Feeding Structure (개구 결합 급전 구조를 갖는 이중 선형편파 패치 안테나의 설계 및 제작)

  • In this paper, we propose DLP(Dual Linear Polarization) antenna with aperture coupled feeding structure for private network. The proposed antenna has general aperture coupled structure and design two port between top and bottom layer to obtain the enhanced isolation. Also, The size of each substrate(top and bottom layer) is 34.0 mm(W)×34.0 mm(L), which is designed on the FR-4 substrate which thickness (h) is 1.0 mm, and the dielectric constant is 4.4. Also, the size of patch antenna is 12.70 mm(W2)×14.60 mm(L3), and it is located on the top layer. The size of feeding line is 24.0 mm(W2)×1.6 mm(L3), and is located at the bottom layer Also, rectangular slot is located on the ground plane between top layer and bottom layer. From the fabrication and measurement results, bandwidths of 300 MHz (4.52 to 4.82 GHz) for feeding port 1, and 170 MHz (4.65 to 4.82 GHz) for feeding port 2 are obtained on the basis of -10 dB return loss and transmission coefficient S21 is got under the -30 dB.   • An airborne radar is an essential aviation electronic system of the aircraft to perform various missions in all weather environments. This paper presents the design, development, and test results of the multi-mode pulsed Doppler radar system test model for helicopter-borne flight test. This radar system consists of 4 LRU units, which include ANTU(Antenna Unit), TRU(Tx Rx Unit), RSDU(Radar Signal & Data Processing Unit) and DISU(Display Unit). The developed technologies include the TACCAR processor, planar array antenna, TWTA transmitter, coherent I/Q detector, digital pulse compression, DSP based Doppler FFT filtering, adaptive CFAR, IMU, and tracking capability. The design performance of the developed radar system is verified through various helicopter-borne field tests including MTD (Moving Target Detector) capability for the Doppler compensation due to the moving platform motion.

Design of Circularly Polarized Multi Band Antenna for Non-Linear Junction Detector System (비선형 소자 탐지 시스템용 원편파 다중 공진 안테나의 설계)

  • This paper proposes the design of circularly polarized multi band antenna for a non-linear junction detector (NLJD) system. In order to design for broad bandwidth, the CPW (Co-Planar Waveguide) feeding method is considered in this design. In order to realize the circular polarization, the axial ratio was controlled by inserting a $45^{\circ}$ inclined slot on radiating element and by cutting an edge of the radiating patch. Measurement results of return loss, bandwidth, axial ratio, polarization pattern and gain are agreed well with their simulation results in interested frequency band at 2.4~ 2.44 GHz, 4.84~4.92 GHz, and 7.28~7.32 GHz.
