  • This paper presents the results of analytical simulation of shake-table responses of a 1:5 scale 10-story reinforcement concrete(RC) residential building model by using the PERFORM-3D program. The following conclusion are drawn based on the observation of correlation between experiment and analysis; (1) The analytical model simulated fairly well the global elastic behavior under the excitations representative of the earthquake with the return period of 50 years. Under the design earthquake(DE) and maximum considered earthquake(MCE), this model shows the nonlinear behavior, but does not properly simulate the maximum responses, and stiffness and strength degradation in experiment. The main reason is considered to be the assumption of elastic slab. (2) Although the analytical model in the elastic behavior closely simulated the global behavior, there were considerable differences in the distribution of resistance from the wall portions. (3) Under the MCE, the shear deformation of wall was relatively well simulated with the flexural deformation being overestimated by 10 times that of experiment. This overestimation is presumed to be partially due to the neglection of coupling beams in modeling.

  • In the case of the superstructure which is consist of two I girders and slab, the section can behave as II section, so that the neutral axis with respect to out of plane direction flexure can be regarded as major axis. Therefore in-plane flexural mode might govern the free vibration mode. Meanwhile, horizontally curved girders always experience not only bending moments but also torsional moments although the primary load is usually supposed to be gravitational load. The interaction due to bending and torsional moments make the behavior complicated and torsional mode may govern the free vibration mode. In other words, structure can have different dynamic characteristic due to its initial curvature. In this research, using 3-dimensional sell elements, free-vibration analyses are carried out due to initial curvature. The analysis models are assumed to be composite and non-composite and finally natural frequency and eigen mode are discussed.

  • RCI 318-8!4 recommends that when the specified cornpresslve strength of concrete In a column is greater than 1.4 times thdt spec~f~ed for a floor svsttm. top surface of the colunm concrete shall extend 2ft(600mm) into the slab from the face of colurnn to avoid unexpected brittle failure. Six test specimens were cast arid tested on 2/3 scale frame specmiens havlng different extension distances and compressive strength of concrete as the major variables. The paper discusses the performance of the frames in terms of ductility and also presents the assessment of the ACI 318-89 provisions. The test results showed that the ductility index were incrrased with increasing of compressive strength of concrete and extension distance. And top surface of the column concrete should extend 2h(h overall depth of beam) into the beam from the face of the column to avoid unexpected brittle failure in frame.

  • This study was carry out to investigate the effect of supplemental lighting on the growth and flowering of Rosa hybrida 'Nobles' in winter. Supplemental lighting was treated during 5 hours at night with sodium lamp and fluorescent lamp, and cut flowers harvested 2 times for the experimental period. After supplemental lighting, air temperature and slab temperature in glasshouse was higher in sodium lamp treatment than control. Realtive humidity was low in sodium lamp treatment. Total nitrogen phosphate, potassium, calcium, and magnesium contents of stem in sodium lamp treatment were higher compare to the other treatment. In sodium lamp treatment, the potassium and magnesium content of leaf in control were lower than the others. Chlorophyll content was not different by source of lighting. Stem length and diameter was longer in sodium lamp treatment. In two times, the yield was highest in sodium lamp treatment. Therefore, supplemental lighting with sodium lamp in winter season was recommended for improving the yield and quality in cut rose 'Nobles'.

  • Three-dimensional analyses of multistory structures with wings using finite element models require tedious input data preparation, longer computation time. and larger computer memory. So this study lays emphasis on the development of efficient analysis models for a three-dimensional multistory structure with wings, including in-plane deformation of floor slabs. Since a three-dimensional multistory structure with wings is regarded as a combination of wing structures and their junction in this study, the proposed analysis models are easily applicable to multistory structures with plans in the shape of letters Y, U, H, etc. Dynamic analyses results obtained using proposed models are in excellent agreement to those acquired using three-dimensional finite element models in terms of natural vibration periods, mode shapes and displacement time history.

  • BIM technology has been used in the domestic AEC field since the middle 2000s. BIM has proved its worth in cutting-edge buildings, mega-buildings and freeform buildings in particular. Many freeform buildings could not be completed due to the low level of construction technique. However, many successful cases emerged after adopting digital technology, including BIM which encouraged architects to challenge freeform designs. The modeling software that can generate the freeform shape are not usually able to build the efficient BIM data type in the AEC industry. In this study a process model of the parametric freeform construction member generation and conversion to BIM data is shown and the prototype system is demonstrated.

  • Ideas regarding acting among new theater groups In the 1960s can be summarized in two major trends. The first trend was characterized with the pursuit of identity in a play. The second trend was characterized with the pursuit of creating a play that strongly and passionately explores internal human reality. In their pursuit of the goal of the second trend, they shockingly and strongly destroyed anything by rising in revolt against the existing spatial language. They believed that acting beyond acting as pursued by Stanislavski is not to implant a new type of human, but to develop the self hidden within the actor or to remove the actor's mask. Based on such recognition, the first thing that actors have to do is to remove or break free from the shell or skin that surrounds them. Accordingly, they sought a method that helped them act while taking off their shell or mask during acting and finally got the answer from "improvisation." One thing with improvisation is its way of stimulating the unconscious world of the actors in order to allow them to strongly express the hidden instinctive emotion from deep within them.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of artificial zeolite and various ion exchangers supplemented in rockwool on the ion exchangability of muskmelon. The results obtained were as follows ; Plant height was higher in the treatment of Ca type artificial zeolite as of 131.2cm than that of control as of 124cm, and same trends were shown in fresh weight of leaf and stem. Fruit weight was increased by supplement of artificial zeolite, but there were no significant differences in the sugar degree and external appearance as influenced by supplementing artificial zeolite. Supplement of artificial zeolite stabilized the pH and increased the ion exchange capacity of nutrient solution. Nutrient absorption was more favorable and led to growth promotion. This study was demonstrated that supplement of artificial zeolite in rockwool slab was improved the stabilization of root environment and increased ion uptake of muskmelon plant.

  • The main structure of Gunsan steam power station was demolished by the toppling method using high explosives. Height of a main building is 58m and a total floor area is $292,000m^2$. It is Rahmen(rigid-frame) structure consisted of almost columns and beams and slabs exist only in one part of the building for the electricity generators equipments. To improve the efficiency of blasting work, it is separated into 4 sectors. Blasting floors were 1, 2, 3, & 4 stories from first sector to third sector, while 1, 2, 5, & 7 of fourth sector were blasted because it had not slabs. About 102.675 kg of the MegaMITE were used with 225 electric detonator and 638 non-electric detonators to check detonator connection and confidence of detonation. The blasting noise and vibration were monitored to evaluate the environment effect and the damage of the nearby structures.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the characteristics of costume and its ornaments which are appeared in the traditional wedding ceremonial customs and the wedding costumes of Eastern Slav, that is consisted of Russian, Belarusian and Ukrainian from the 19 to the early of 20C. In this study, many different procedures of wedding ceremony with a various kind of wedding costumes are shown. A wedding custom of Eastern Slav had been developed by a intermixed style of the Christianism and a paganism. The wedding custom is organized by the 3 sequential procedures; before a wedding, a wedding, after a wedding Their wedding means the union of the bride into the bridegrooms family in order to establish a new family. Therefore, the wedding costumes have been developed according to this, and the head gears have developed as a symbol which presents the meaning. A brides costume is composed of a head gear, \"Lubaha\", and \"Sarafan\" or a skirt. A bridegrooms one is made up of \"Lubaha\", and trousers. These costumes are kept through their whole life, and are worn in every important ceremonial period. Even though, the wedding customs and the wedding costumes of Russia, Belarus, and Ukrain have been developed by their general commonness, there are regionally certain differences. It is one of the important research object of the Eurasian era in the view point of culture and ethnographic, that to know the symbolism appeared in the traditional weeding ceremonial customs and the wedding costumes of Eastern Slav.ding costumes of Eastern Slav.
