  • In this study, in order to verify the reinforcement effects of the cracked concrete tubes and culverts, static load test was conducted. After the load carrying capacity of the original concrete tubes (nominal diameter 0.8 m, 1.0 m, 1.5 m) and box culverts (inner width 2.0 m. 2.5 m) was reduced by the cracking test, the cracked concrete specimens were strengthened by installing profile with steel stiffener and high strength mortar. And then, the maximum load tests were conducted the renewal concrete tubes and box culverts. According to the method application, the load carrying capacity increased 1.66~3.50 times than it of the original tubes before applying the method. In case of the original box culverts, the load carrying capacity increased 1.66~3.10 times than the case before installing profile and high strength mortar. Also non-linear analysis was carried out by using the commercial FEM program of ABAQUS 6.6. Solid (C3D8R) elements and concrete damage plasticity option was applied to the analysis. For reflecting confined reinforcing bars in the analysis, the composite material properties were used.

  • In this study, new moment-resisting precast concrete beam-column joint made up of hybrid steel concrete was developed and tested. This beam-column joint is proposed for use in moderate seismic regions. It has square hollow tubular section in concrete column and connecting plate in precast U-beam. The steel elements in column and beam members were connected using bolt. Furthermore, in order to prevent the premature failure of concrete in hybrid steel-concrete connection, ECC(engineered cementitious composite) was used. An experimental study was carried out investigating the joint behavior subjected to reversed cyclic loading and constant axial compressive load. Two precast beam-column joint specimens and monolithic reinforced concrete joint specimen were tested. The variables for interior joints were cast-in-situ concrete area and transverse reinforcement within the joint. Tests were carried out under displacement controlled reverse cyclic load with a constant axial load. Joint performance is evaluated on the basis of connection strength, stiffness, energy dissipation, and displacement capacity. The test results showed that significant differences in structural behavior between the two types of connection because of different bonding characteristics between steel and concrete; steel and ECC. The proposed joint detail can induce to move the plastic hinge out of the ECC and steel plate. And proposed precast connection showed better performance than the monolithic connection by providing sufficient moment-resisting behavior suitable for applications in moderate seismic regions.

  • Recently, the frequency and magnitude of the earthquake have increased. The structural safety of the public facilities such as bridges and tunnels etc. which were not concerned for earthquake resistant design are increased. Fiber reinforcement polymer that has been frequently studied for seismic retrofit has advantage as seismic reinforcement material, but it has disadvantage of the brittleness. Therefore, the investigation of safety and seismic reinforcement are required. In this study, new FRP-ductile material layered composites proposed to seismic performance reinforced of subway tunnel. Tensile test of FRP-ductile material layered composites showed that Maximum tensile force of FRP-ductile using Aluminum is similar to existing FRP reinforcement material and maximum strain was increased. In case of application of domestic subway tunnel which need ductility, layered composites of FRP-Aluminum is estimated effectively for increase of seismic performance.
