There are many kinds of seam trackers in the industrial welding field. We are proposed the contact seam tracking sensor applying strain gauges kind of contact sensor that mostly used in welding part now. For this seam tracking experiment, we made the strain gauges sensor by ourselves and tested how well the sensor tracks the seam. The experiment device consist of strain gauges sensor, amplifier circuit of strain gauges signal, saw wave generator, MOSFET power diving circuit and X-Y slide by moved DC motor. The tracking areas are X-Y planes(left, right, up and down) and the change of strain gauge resistance causes to move DC motor that connected to X-Y slide. As a result of experiment, we confirmed that the strain gauges sensor tracks a seam well, and X-Y slide DC motor was controlled by PWM control.

In this paper we have implemented a temperature-insensitive polarimetric fiber strain sensor based on a Sagnac birefringence interferometer composed of a short polarization-maintaining photonic crystal fiber (PM-PCF), a 3-dB fiber coupler, and polarization controllers. The PM-PCF used as a sensor head was 2 cm long, which is the shortest length for a sensing element compared to other polarimetric fiber strain sensors using a PM-PCF. The proposed sensor showed a strain sensitivity of ${\sim}0.87pm/{\mu}{\varepsilon}$ with a strain measurement range from 0 to $8m{\varepsilon}$. The temperature sensitivity was also investigated and measured as approximately $-12pm/^{\circ}C$, when ambient temperature changed from 30 to $100^{\circ}C$. This temperature sensitivity is about 82 times smaller than that of conventional polarization-maintaining fiber (approximately $-990pm/^{\circ}C$). In particular, from a practical perspective we have experimentally and theoretically confirmed that the wavelength selected for the indicator dip location does not make a significant difference in the strain sensitivity.
In this paper we present the construction details and output characteristics of a diaphragm-type pressure sensor with Cu-Ni(53:47) thin-film strain gauges. In order to improve the sensitivity and the temperature compensation two circumferential gauges are placed near the center of the diaphragm and two radial gauges are located near the edge. For all the gauges the relative change in resistance ΔR/R with pressure is of the order 10$^{-3}$ for the maximum pressure. The output is found to be linear over the entire pressure range(0-30kfg/cm$^2$)and the output sensitivity obtained is 1.6mV/V. The maximum nonlinearity observed in output characteristics is 0.35%FS for 5V excitation and the hysteresis is less than 0.1%FS.
Soft robotics and wearable devices require large motions and flexibility. In this regard, there is a demand for developing stretchable strain sensors which can be attached to the soft robots and wearable devices. In this work, we fabricated stretchable and electrically conductive composite fibers by combining polyurethane (PU) and silver nanoflowers (AgNFs). The PU/AgNF composite fibers showed the change of the resistance as a function of the applied strain, demonstrating the potential for stretchable strain sensors in soft robotics and wearable devices. The mechanical and electrical characteristics of the composite fibers were measured and analyzed to use the composite fibers for stretchable strain sensors.

Stretchable strain sensors have been developed for potential future applications including wearable devices and health monitoring. For practical implementation of stretchable strain sensors, their stability and repeatability are one of the important aspects to be considered. In this work, we utilized 3D printed polymer structures having kirigami patterns to improve the stretchability and reduce the hysteresis. The polymer structures were coated with graphene/carbon nanofiber hybrids to make a robust electrical network. The stretchable strain sensors showed a high gauge of 36 at a strain of 32%. Because of the kirigami structures and the robust graphene/carbon nanofiber coating, the sensors also exhibited stable resistance responses at various strains ranging from 1% to 30%.

In this research, the oil detection method and the characteristic of sensor using the selective reaction of silicone rubber in response to hydrocarbon oil will be described. As a sensing principle, the swelling property of silicone rubber in response to hydrocarbon fuel is used, also a strain gauge is used to transduce the volume change to an electrical signal. The sensor core is manufactured with a strain gauge embedded in silicone rubber by the curing process and experiments for characteristics of sensor core with various oils were carried out. It is shown that the sensor core can be used as an oil spill detection sensor. Also, for the application to the sea area, a buoy type sensor platform is integrated with a sensor core and a strain amplifier and it is tested in the simulated oil spill condition. In this study, it is proven that the integrated sensor can be used for the detection of various oils.
We present a fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensor system for measuring static and high-speed dynamic strains with a resolution of about $5\mu$strain. This sensor system demodulates signals from the FBG sensor utilizing a compensated tunable narrow bandpass filter. We have placed a set of twelve FBGs to concrete specimen and measured its internal stress under various applied load conditions.itions.
