Mobile Device and Virtual Storage-Based Approach to Automatically and Pervasively Acquire Knowledge in Dialogues (모바일 기기와 가상 스토리지 기술을 적용한 자동적 및 편재적 음성형 지식 획득)

  • The Smartphone, one of essential mobile devices widely used recently, can be very effectively applied to capture knowledge on the spot by jointly applying the pervasive functionality of cloud computing. The process of knowledge capturing can be also effectively automated if the topic of knowledge is automatically identified. Therefore, this paper suggests an interdisciplinary approach to automatically acquire knowledge on the spot by combining technologies of text mining-based topic identification and cloud computing-based Smartphone. The Smartphone is used not only as the recorder to record knowledge possessor's dialogue which plays the role of the knowledge source, but also as the sensor to collect knowledge possessor's context data which characterize specific situations surrounding him or her. The support vector machine, one of well-known outperforming text mining algorithms, is applied to extract the topic of knowledge. By relating the topic and context data, a business rule can be formulated, and by aggregating the rule, the topic, context data, and the dictated dialogue, a set of knowledge is automatically acquired.

  • Users want to receive customized service using users' personal device. To fulfill this requirement, the mobile device has to support a lot of functions. However, the mobile device has limitations such as tiny display screens. To solve this limitation problem and provide customized service to users, this paper proposes the environment to provide services by sharing resources and the method to recommend user-suitable resources among sharable resources. For the resource recommendation, This paper analyzes user's behavior pattern from usage history and proposes the method for recommending customized resources. This paper also shows that the approach is reasonable one for resource recommendation through the satisfaction evaluation.

  • Recently, in response to the Internet age, the demand for hardware devices has been increasing, centering on the rapidly growing smart home field, due to the growth and management of sensor and control technology, mobile application, network traffic, big data management and cloud computing. In order to maintain the sustainable development of the hardware system, it is necessary to update the system, and the hardware device is absolutely necessary in real time processing of complex data (voice, image, etc.) as well as data collection. In this paper, we propose a method to simplify the control and communication method by integrating the hardware devices in two operating systems in a unified structure to solve the simultaneous control and communication method of hardware under different operating systems. The performance evaluation results of the proposed integrated hardware and the cloud control system connected to the cloud server are described and the main directions to be studied in the field of internet smart home are described.

Hand Gesture Interface Using Mobile Camera Devices (모바일 카메라 기기를 이용한 손 제스처 인터페이스)

  • This paper presents a hand motion tracking method for hand gesture interface using a camera in mobile devices such as a smart phone and PDA. When a camera moves according to the hand gesture of the user, global optical flows are generated. Therefore, robust hand movement estimation is possible by considering dominant optical flow based on histogram analysis of the motion direction. A continuous hand gesture is segmented into unit gestures by motion state estimation using motion phase, which is determined by velocity and acceleration of the estimated hand motion. Feature vectors are extracted during movement states and hand gestures are recognized at the end state of each gesture. Support vector machine (SVM), k-nearest neighborhood classifier, and normal Bayes classifier are used for classification. SVM shows 82% recognition rate for 14 hand gestures.

  • Nowadays, in the so-called 'smart era', people are likely to feel more comfortable in on-line meetings than in off-line meetings. However, on-line meetings are often considered unimportant and it is difficult for participants to share their feelings. This paper suggests a mobile application that can revitalize off-line meetings to address these problems. Wecok Application, which suggests the best meeting place by applying users' preferences and their locations, provides a function-oriented user interface and simple touch flow. Wecok consists of a client/server software, and currently supports only three users simultaneously. It enables exchange of off-line and on-line communication by expanding meetings from on-line to off-line. By using Wecok, users can easily decide on an off-line meeting place.

  • As the performance of mobile devices has increased, high-end multicore CPUs have become the norm in smartphones. However, such high performance devices are exposed to the problem of battery depletion due to the energy consumption caused by software performance, and despite increases in battery capacity. The required resources are dynamic and varied, and further user interaction is highly random; thus, Linux-based power management such as DVFS is needed to fulfill requirements. In order to reduce power consumption, we propose a method to restrict the CPU frequency of data download while maintaining user reactivity. This can supplement the weakness of existing Linux-based power management techniques like DVFS in relation to webpage loading. Through the implementation of our method at the application level, we confirm that energy consumption from webpage loading is reduced.

  • Due to rapid growth and development of telecommunication information technology, interest has been amplified regarding ubiquitous network computing and user-oriented service. Also, the rapid development of related technologies has been a big spotlight. Smart phone, with features such as a PC with advanced features is a mobile phone. According to environment and infrastructure development, a variety of mobile-based application software to provide various kinds of information and services has been released. However, most of them are provider-driven information systems and aim to provide large amounts of information simply to an unspecified number of users. Therefore, customized or personalized provision of information and service explained earlier for individual users has been hardly come true. According to background and need, this study wants to design and implement recommendations system for personalization and customization in mobile environments. To acquire more accurate recommendation results, recommendation system shall be composed using the Hybrid Filtering. Effective information recommendation according to user's situation by using user's context-information of purpose and location that are available in mobile devices before running the filtering of the information to improve the quality of recommendations.

A Life Browser based on Probabilistic and Semantic Networks for Visualization and Retrieval of Everyday-Life (일상생활 시각화와 검색을 위한 확률망과 의미망 기반 라이프 브라우저)

  • Recently, diverse information which are location, call history, SMS history, photographs, and video can be collected constantly from mobile devices such as cellular phone, smart phone, and PDA. There are many researchers who study services for searching and abstraction of personal daily life with contextual information in mobile environment. In this paper, we introduce MyLifeBrowser which is developed in our previous work. Also, we explain LPS and correction of GPS coordinates as extensions of previous work and show LPS performance test and evaluate the performance of expanded keywords. MyLifeBrowser which provides searching personal information in mobile device and support of detecting related information according to a fragmentary keyword and common knowledge in ConceptNet. It supports the functionality of searching related locations using Bayesian network that is designed by the authors. In our experiment, we visualize real data through MyLifeBrowser and show the feasibility of LPS server and expanded keywords using both Bayesian network and ConceptNet.

  • As the mobile computers such as Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) or Smart Phone has been widespread in our daily life, the demand of an extensive data input will gradually be increased. Consequently, many alternative soft keyboards have been proposed to satisfy this requirement. However none of them can provide an absolute solutions for that, the segregated guideline for keyboard arrangement and usage still cause much confusion to the user. Therefore, an integrated guideline is seriously required. In order to come up with the integrated guideline for Korean Soft keyboard GUI, the questionnaire and the experimental test compared with five soft keyboards were conducted in this study. As a result this paper presents five guidelines for improving an input speed of soft keyboard on the mobile computing; following familiarity for effective screen use, using a single key rather than grouping key, considering position of prediction word, considering prompt feedback, finally, considering optimized keyboard size.

  • QR(Quick Response) Code has been developed to provide greater storage capacity and more functionality compared to 1D bar codes. With the emergence of increasingly mobile devices equipped with cameras such as smart-phones and tablets, QR codes have become very popular and more important in mobile businesses. Typically, most QR codes are used as a URL link for redirecting users to webpages. However, the URL based QR codes are required to be connected over the internet and to be run a server. This can incur unnecessary traffics in the Internet. Furthermore, it is not suitable for the country lagging behind others in its network infrastructure. In this paper, we propose a server-less ${\mu}$-webpage to provide mobile web services and be optimized for the capabilities and limitations of QR Code. We have implemented the ${\mu}$-webpage in Android, and the results showed that the proposed mechanism can provide web-services without requiring extra servers or incurring mobile traffic data compared to the URL-based QR Codes.
