Study on Integrated Control against Root-knot Nematode of Fruit Vegetables (Oriental Melon and Cucumber) in Vinyl House (시설과채류(오이, 참외)의 뿌리혹선충 종합방제에 관한 연구)

  • To reduce crop damage from root-knot nematode, Meloidogyne spp. chemical, cultural, physical control methods were compared in commercial greenhouse for 3 years from 1992 to 1994. Timing of sol exchange for economic losses due to the nematodes is important: every 3 years for coarse sand (Masatto) and every 4 years for red-yellow soil. Control effects on Meloidogyne spp. in cucumber were 78.2% in Dazomet DP, 72.1% Carbo G+Soil reverse+submergence, and 66.3% in Carbo G+submergence. Pesticide effects were temporally different after treatment: 77.7~80.6% in 20 days and 33.7~49.5% in 60 days. Cropping system in oriental melon gave an excellent control effect of 81.1% at oriental melon/rice culture. All methods controled root-knot nematodes at the time of the treatment but the number of the nematodes increased at the end of the season. However, soil exchange was effective for 3 years. The most economic control practice is rotation with rice for every three years.

Protective effects of extracts from spent mushroom substrate of Lentinula edodes on gray mold disease of ginseng (표고버섯 수확 후 배지추출물의 인삼잿빛곰팡이 병 방제 효과)

  • This study aims to investigate the antifungal and protective effects of water- and 70% methyl alcohol-extracts from spent mushroom substrate (WESMS and MeOHSMS) of Lentinula edodes, on Botrytis cinerea- the causative agent for gray mold disease in ginseng. MeOHSMS inhibited mycelial growth and spore germination of Botrytis cinerea, by 75% and 95%, respectively. MeOHSMS could suppress gray mold disease of ginseng seedlings by 80% and effectively reduce the disease severity by 60%. Compared to the treatment of ginseng leaves with WESMS and DL-${\beta}$-aminobutyric acid (BABA), the MeOHSMS treatment increased the phenolic compounds in the leaves by 36% and 18%, respectively. These results suggest that the SMS extracts suppress gray mold disease in ginseng via dual functions: antifungal activity and increase in a plant defense factor-phenolic compounds.

Control of Tomato Bacterial Wilt by the Prototypes Extracted from Spent Media Substrate of Hericium erinaceus (노루궁뎅이 수확 후 배지 추출한 시제품의 토마토 풋마름병 방제 효과)

  • The prototypes, Rto-x+$Ca(NO_3)_2$, K-Ca, and Rto-$x{\beta}$, which were extracted from spent mushroom substrate of Hericium erinaceus, strongly inhibited the growth of Ralstonia solanacearum. The control efficacies of tomato bacterial wilt by treatment with Rto-x+$Ca(NO_3)_2$, K-Ca, and Rto-$x{\beta}$ were 87.4~92.4%, 46.0~100%, and 65.0~91.9%, respectively. These results indicate that Rto-x+$Ca(NO_3)_2$, K-Ca, and Rto-$x{\beta}$ have a potential as eco-friendly antibacterial materials for the control of tomato bacterial wilt caused by R. solanacearum.

  • Occurrence of ripe rot in Vitis vinifera cv, Campbell Early was examined at Daegu, Yaungchon, and Kimchon in Kyungbuk province, Korea from 1997 through 1999. Its occurrence was related to rainfall days in July and Auguest. In cv, Campbell Early, the disease started in late July, and increased rapidly from mid August. Considering the incubation time, the pathogen infection might have increased from late July, which was confirmed by wrapping grape clusters in field and in vitro tests. By scanning electron microscopy, it took 24 h or longer for infection to occur in moisturized conditions. Chlrorothalonyl WP (500$\times$) sufficiently reduced ripe rot disease when the chemical was sprayed 3 or 4 times during the growing season.

Changes of Root Yield and Paeoniflorin Content affected by Harvesting Times in Peony(Paeonia lactiflora) (작약(芍藥) 수확시기(收獲時期)에 따른 수량(收量) 및 Paeoniflorin 함량(含量)의 변화(變化))

  • Changes of yield and paeoniflorin content according to chemical control and harvest time were investigated. Peonies were harvested after four years from planting. Disease and pest control method was applied normally in first year. From second year to forth year we set two blocks and controlled them differently. In one, peonies were withered early under non-control condition. In the other which was controlled by spraying chemicals four time a year, top part withering was delayed. Harvest was taken four times top part withering was delayed. Harvest was taken four times: Jul. 25, Aug. 25, Sep. 25, and Oct. 25. In non-chemical, at harvest of Jul. 25, paeoniflorin content was highest and dry root weight was 1,126kg/10a which was little less than 1,177kg/10a of Aug. 25. In chemical control, dry root yield of Oct. 25. showed an increase of 33% over that of Jul. But paeoniflorin content in root at Oct. was lower than at Jul. or Aug. For high qualities and harvest yields of peony root, chemical control is necessary to maintain top part to late in Oct.

  • In order to acquire morphological characteristics and genetic characteristics of pathogen that causes anthrax to chestnut, anthrax was separate and identified in Gongju, chungnam chestnut plantation. Antagonistic microorganisms and plant extracts were selected for control of anthrax. Medium maturing variety treatment of 250 dilution fold in field was control at 71.2% and treatment of 500 dilution fold was control at 64.4% and treatment of 1000 dilution fold was control at 40.7%. Storage control value of Jabong in $25^{\circ}C$ after treatment in field is 61.7% at 250 dilution fold, 62.8% at 500 dilution fold, 40.9% at 1000 dilution fold treatment.

Effective Weed Control in Direct-Seeded Rice under Dry Fields (벼 건답직파(乾畓直播)에 있어서 효과적(效果的)인 잡초방제(雜草防除))

  • This experiment was conducted to evaluate effective weed control in direct-seeded rice under dry fields. The results obtained are as follows. Cyhalofop/bentazone EW and cyhalofop/pendimethalin EC were very effective for the weed control but cyhalofop/cinosulfuron WP and cyhalofop/azimsulfuron SC were tended to exhibit the lower weeding effect. The plant height and the tiller number of rice were not greatly affected by herbicides, but rice yield was greatly influenced by them. The control efficacy was observed the extend of 94% until 60days after seeding under the treatment of systematic herbicides such as foliar applied pendimethalin propanil EC at 15days after seeding mowed by pyrazosulfuron molinate GR at 5days after irrigation. Irrigation at 25days after seeding was able to control annual weeds by the extent of 25% and exhibited control effect of 94% on systematic treatment of herbicides compared with that of 35days after seeding.

  • 청과물(靑果物)이 생산지에서 출하되어 수송과정과 도매시장, 소매시장을 거쳐 소비자의 손에 들어 가기까지의 과정에 손상을 받거나 부패하거나 하여 상품가치가 떨어지는 원인이 되는 병해를 ''시장 병해'' 또는 ''청과병해''라 한다. 지금까지 재배중에 발생하는 병해에 대해서는 많은 관심을 가지고 방제에 힘쓰고 있으나 수확 후의 관리에 대해서는 무관심한 경우가 많다. 실제로 청과물은 수송, 저장 중에 많은 피해를 받게되는데 여기서는 청과물에 공통으로 발생하는 주요 병해의 종류, 병징, 병원균의 성질 및 예방대책에 대해서 알아보기로 한다.

Suppressive Effect of Water Extract from Spent Mushroom Substrate of Pleurotus eryngii against Tomato Bacterial Wilt Disease (큰느타리 수확 후 배지 물 추출물의 토마토 풋마름병 억제)

  • Water extract from spent mushroom substrate (WESMS) of Pleurotus eryngii suppressed bacterial wilt disease of tomato caused by Ralstonia solanacearum by 70% without any direct antibacterial activity against the pathogen. WESMS-treated tomato had increased contents of free phenolic compounds (increased by 3%) and total salicylic acid (increased by 75%), and significantly enhanced plant height, leaf number, and fresh weight compared to those of a water-treated tomato sample. These results suggest that the treatment of tomato with WESMS can suppress bacterial wilt disease by enhancing plant defense factors and overall plant health.

Control of Botrytis cinerea and Postharvest Quality of Cut Roses by Electron Beam Irradiation (전자빔 조사에 따른 잿빛곰팡이병원균 방제효과와 절화 장미의 수확 후 품질)

  • The present study was conducted to determine the effect of electron beam irradiation on control of Botrytis cinerea and postharvest quality of cut roses. Electron beam doses of 0.1, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, 1, 2, 10, and 20 kGy were applied with a 10-MeV linear electron beam accelerator (EB Tech, Korea). Electron beams inhibited spore germination and mycelial growth of B. cinerea with increasing irradiation doses. Conidia of B. cinerea were more tolerant to irradiation than were mycelia: the effective irradiation doses for 50% inhibition ($ED_{50}$) of spore germination and mycelial growth were 2.02 kGy and 0.89 kGy, respectively. In addition, electron beam irradiation was more effective in reducing mycelial growth of B. cinerea at $10^{\circ}C$ than at $20^{\circ}C$. Analysis of in vivo antifungal activity revealed that elevated irradiation doses exhibited increased control efficacy for tomato gray mold. Flower longevity and fresh weight of cut roses decreased when the irradiation dose was increased. In addition, flower bud opening tended to be inhibited in a dose-dependent manner. Although 'Decoration', 'Il se Bronze', 'Queen Bee', and 'Revue' roses tolerated and maintained overall postharvest quality up to 0.4 kGy, 'Vivian' did not, demonstrating that the irradiation sensitivity of cut roses varies according to cultivar.
