  • It is well known that the low achievement students are easily affected by the ways how the materials are organized and presented. So the studies on trying to find how those students' responses are differed according to the organization or presentation of the materials are necessary. This paper was based on the results of Korean Elementary 3 Grade Students National Diagnosis Assessment on Basic Scholastic Ability in area of mathematics. We analyzed students responses through combining the percents of correct answers with the assessment items. After that, we identified the properties of low achievement students in mathematics and presented some guides which, we thought, are helpful for improvements of mathematics textbooks and teacher guide books.

  • In this paper, we selected 145 students from engineering college students who took P University's the Scholastic Level Assessment and registered the Basic Mathematics Class among the students who achieved 4th~7th grade in the mathematics B-type of the College Scholastic Ability Test. We compared and analyzed the correlation among the chosen students' grade for the College Scholastic Ability Test, test results of the Scholastic Level Assessment and mid-term test of the Basic Mathematics Subject, type of college entrance and actual condition survey of students in order to derive optimized teaching method for general mathematics subjects which can possibly increase the students' academic ability.

  • The purpose of educational assessments such as the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) is to compare groups such as countries. When the unit of measurement is above the student level, group-level diagnostic assessment based on multilevel item response theory (ML-IRT) can be considered just as cognitive diagnosis models are developed from item response theory. This study suggests an ML-IRT-based group-level diagnostic assessment model by modifying an item feature model by Park and bolt (2008). The model is illustrated on the recently released TIMSS 2015 Grade 8 mathematics assessment. The results provide skill profiles for the studied countries and the nine cognitive attributes; that is, the attribute effects can be compared across the countries and also across the attributes. By controlling unexplained variance, the suggested model may provide more reliable and more informative group-level comparisons. The results are interpreted using an example. Limitations and directions for future research are also discussed.

  • Conventional assessments only provide a single summary score that indicates the overall performance level or achievement level of a student in a single learning area. For assessments to be more effective, test should provide useful diagnostic information in addition to single overall scores. Cognitive diagnosis modeling provides useful information by estimating individual knowledge states by assessing whether an examinee has mastered specific attributes measured by the test(Embretson, 1990; DiBello, Stout, & Rousses, 1995; Tatsuoka, 1995). Attributes are skills or cognitive processes that are required to perform correctly on a particular item. By the results of this study, students, parents, and teachers would be able to see where a student stands with respect to mastering the attributes. Such information could be used to guide the learner and teacher toward areas requiring more study. By being able to assess where they stand in regard to the attributes that compose an item, students can plan a more effective learning path to be desired proficiency levels. It would be very helpful to the examinee if score reports can provide the scale scores as well as the skill profiles. While the scale scores are believed to provide students' math ability by reporting only one score point, the skill profiles can offer a skill level of strong, weak or mixed for each student for each skill.

  • The purpose of this study is an analysis on the 3rd graders' achievement in the elementary school. For this purpose, this study, first, analysed on the 3rd graders' achievement like the ratios of the achievement levels for whole students, sexual students, and regional students. Second, this study analysed the 3rd graders' assessment results like the total averages, averages for the contents area, sexual students, and regional students. Third, this study analysed students' special responses on the items.

  • If a learner should fail to complete previous courses before moving on to the next level will face difficulty keeping up with it. Such personal tuition for those having trouble coping with their class is an issue that needs urgent addressing, which cannot be a burden only to teachers, this study has been conducted to sought for a solution. This study has developed and put into application a web based analyzing system to assess the area of deficit in students followed by obliterating accumulated learning deficits to impart assistance for their study. The subject of the study comprised of ten students from a school where the researcher is on duty and the field of assessment with the analyzing system were numbers and calculations. As a result, we could find out its efficiency in elevating their capability and interest in learning, which was proven to be statistically significant using ANOVA.

  • A poor achievement of basic competency leads to obstacles of the same subject and other subjects from a series of accumulative losses and social life. The Grade 3 National Diagnostic Assessment of Basic Competency (NDAHC) dated from 2002, Teaching Plan Responsible to Basic Competency and compensational education materials for students of the below-basic level has marked a line in the chain of policy to realize educational welfare. The goal of NDABC is to collect information of the reason with regard to learning deficiency and individual student's information, and ultimately teach them on the basis of those informations. This study analyzed the characteristics of below-basic students in the basic mathematics with data from NDABC from 2003 to 2007. Students of the below-basic level were affected in achievement by numerical distinction, regrouping, arrangement and descriptive form of item, information-providing way, typical example, familiarity, frequency in use in daily life etc. This study provides a basic important information with regard to teaching below-basic students and suggestions with compensational education materials for them.
