  • This study was to investigate the practice of the teachers who changed their teaching subject to Mathematics from other subjects. Teacher, A who had traditional belief and Teacher, B, non-traditional belief were chosen for the study through the questionnaire in Sep. 2014. The result indicated that Teacher, A in traditional belief showed teacher-centered teaching but Teacher, B in nontraditional belief showed inconsistent way of teaching in comparison to the original perspective. The later said she could not teach students as she wanted to teach because of the lack of knowledge of teaching as a math teacher. The difficulties Teacher, A encountered were: to handle too many works beyond teaching and to teach too many contents to cover without having enough time to prepare. Teacher, B didn't know how to teach students math in a constructivism way. They asked to offer them more in-service training program to develop their expertise for teaching mathematics.

  • The purpose of this study is to draw implication for the teacher education program in association with creativity through analysing teaching behavior for fostering creativity of the mathematics teachers at the primary and secondary schools. In order to do so, a survey was performed by sampling primary, middle, and high school teachers. According to the results, there is significant difference in teachers' behavior for fostering creativity in the perspective of school classification (primary and secondary school), but not gender, region, and career of teachers. In other words, there is significant difference in teaching behaviors for fostering creativity between primary and secondary school teachers, herein the score of teaching behavior of former is higher than latter. Furthermore, the result of teachers' recognition survey on the possibility of fostering students' creativity via education shows that the teachers of primary schools are more relatively positive than those of secondary schools on the matter.

  • The purposes of the study were to analyze pre-service mathematics teachers' MKT and to examine the perceptions of MKT to find implications for the improvement of pre-service mathematics teacher education program in the aspect of teachers' content knowledge. Twenty-six pre-service mathematics teachers participated in the survey to examine the perceptions of MKT and they also finished two MKT tasks which focused on a specific area of middle school geometry. According to the survey results, the participants thought that they have enough knowledge in all categories of MKT except KCT-2 and they appreciated the importance of MKT education in pre-service mathematics teacher education program. However, the participants showed difficulties in MKT task items which required SCK, KCS, KCT, especially, the proportions of those who showed appropriate knowledge on the items required SCK and KCT was less than 50%. These results show disagreement between the perceptions of pre-service mathematics teachers' MKT and practice of MKT.

  • A lot of researches state mathematical justification is important. Specially, NCTM (2000) mentions that mathematical reasoning and proof should be taught every student from pre-primary school to 12 grades. Some of researches say elementary school students are also able to prove and justify their own solution(Lester, 1975; King, 1970, 1973; Reid, 2002). Balacheff(1987), Tall(1995), Harel & Sowder(1998, 2007), Simon & Blume(1996) categorize the level or the types of mathematical justification. We re-categorize the 4 types of mathematical justification basis on their studies; external conviction justification, empirical-inductive justification, generic justification, deductive justification. External conviction justification consists of authoritarian justification, ritual justification, non-referential symbolic justification. empirical-inductive justification consists of naive examples justification and crucial example justification. Generic justification consists of generic example and visual example. The results of this research are following. First, elementary school teachers in Korea respectively understand mathematical justification well. Second, elementary school teachers in Korea prefer deductive justification when they justify by themselves, while they prefer empirical-inductive justification when they teach students.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the process of reading and understanding mathematics lesson plan through eye-tracking to suggest implications of pre-service teacher education. As a result of the analysis, the pre-service teachers felt that the mathematics lesson plans were more difficult than the experienced teacher, they read and understood the mathematics lesson plan in sequential order. Experienced teachers, on the other hand, used a hypertext reading strategy to find key topics and make connections in order to grasp the flow of instruction in mathematics lesson plan. Based on these results, several suggestions were drawn for pre-service teachers when teaching their ability to read and understand mathematics lesson plan.

  • The purpose of this study is to explore how elementary mathematics teachers' adaptations of a reform-oriented mathematics curriculum material in the USA, Everyday Mathematics, influence elementary students' opportunities to learn mathematics. I illustrate how elementary mathematics teachers alter the curriculum material and how such alterations influence their students' opportunities to learn mathematics in their mathematics classrooms. Results suggest that the teachers with Everyday Mathematics did not appear to maintain the cognitive demand of mathematical tasks as appeared in the curriculum material, as set up by the teacher, and as enacted in the classrooms. The results also show that the teachers seemed to omit components including important tasks and suggestions in the curriculum material. As a consequence, the students did not have an opportunity to think and understand mathematics conceptually and meaningfully; they were exposed and encouraged to learn mathematics procedurally.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze classroom discourse in the math classroom of middle school in China, which has a unique math classroom background of entrance examination for high school. To this end, this study analyzed teacher question statistics and episodes by teacher question type as starting speech in mathematics classroom discourse, and five IRF subtypes were especially identified by class discourse structure analysis. The data were analyzed focusing on a total of 15 transcripts of math classes recorded by three math teachers at H School in Guiyang, Guizhou Province, China, and written interviews of teachers. According to the results of this study, an average of 20 teacher questions were observed for each class, and the teacher question type was classified into confirmation question (understanding confirmation question, explanation request question, and double check question) and information question (information presentation question). In addition, according to classroom discourse analysis, the IRF discourse structure was divided into fragmentary evaluation, evaluation+reason, evidence of explanation, evaluation+student response re-statement, guidance on other thoughts or solutions, and student answer correction or teacher opinion presentation.

  • The purpose of this study is to find out how pre-service mathematics teachers should prepare for the teaching of probability and statistics in school mathematics and to help improve teacher education. To do this, questionnaires and evaluation of probabilistic and statistical curriculum were conducted for pre-service teachers, and regression analysis and correlation between them were examined. Through the investigation, the items with low evaluation results due to level of difficulty were extracted and analyzed. As a result, first, it is necessary to teach pre-service mathematics teachers with link the contents curriculum of college and secondary school about probability and statistics. Second, accurate diagnosis of pre-service mathematics teachers' understanding of probability and statistics is needed. Third, the misconceptions and causes of pre-service mathematics teachers were analyzed in detail. And suggests that various follow-up studies related to this are needed.
