A Potential of Postharvest CO2 Treatment on the Market Quality of Strawberries during Simulated Export (딸기의 수확 후 CO2처리와 모의 수출과정 중 상품성 변화)

  • This experiment was conducted to improve the market quality of fresh strawberries through postharvest treatment of $CO_2$ at commercial level. Postharvest application of $CO_2$ increased flesh firmness regardless of ripeness of strawberries. Firmness further increased in berries of full maturity but the actual firmness was higher in less mature berries. The optimal condition of $CO_2$ treatment was above 15% of $CO_2$ for 4 hours during cooling of harvested fruit. Residual effect of firmness increase was remained until simulated shipment as well as retail condition for 1 days at ambient temperature. Market quality of full ripe fruit at harvest significantly reduced due turning skin color to dark red and dryness of physically injured surface. Result indicated that a short term application of $CO_2$ during cooling has a benefit for keeping freshness of strawberries during export and local marketing.

Selection of Culture Media Applied to Grafted Cactus 'Hwangwall' for Export (수출용 접목 선인장 '황월'에 적합한 배지선발)

  • This work is for selecting superior media which is similar to Peat Moss that is in general use as media of Gymnocalycium mihanovichii for Export such as 'Hwang wall' but lower price. The result on growth of 7 kinds of media (Peat Moss, BM6 Culture Medium, Coco Peat, Hydro Cray, Hydro Ball, Hugato, Vermiculite) which are applied watering (overhead irrigation, sub irrigation) based on bichemical analysis including chemical, physical analysis are following. The result of bi-chemical analysis shows that Coco Peat was stabilized planting after 90 days and Hydro Ball has high water holding capacity. The experimental result of growth in grafted cactus 'Hwangwall' shows Coco Peat is similar to Peat Moss on organic matter and in case of inorganic media, Hugato, Vermiculite, Hydro Cray made satisfactory results. But, the weight of inorganic media is too light to be tied. Consequently, Coco Peat and sphagnum moss as organic media has lower price and the condition of growth is analogous to Peat Moss. On the other hands, Hydro Ball was chosen as a substitute of Peat Moss in inorganic media.

Global Value Chain Integration in the Korean Strawberry Industry: Focusing on Farmers in Jinju (한국 딸기산업의 글로벌 가치사슬 통합 과정: 진주시 농업인을 중심으로)

  • While the integration into global value chains has garnered attention as a rural development strategy, less is known about why some integrations are successful while others are not. This study draws on rent theory and on empirical examples from Jinju and Nonsan, the two biggest strawberry production regions in South Korea, to explore the mechanisms of Jinju creating and exclusively retaining monopoly rents from the exports. Based on five months of fieldwork and in-depth interviews with stakeholders, the findings show that a producer-driven chain integration into the overseas markets was possible in Jinju due to the natural barriers to entry based on an exportable variety, as well as the region's climate conditions being suitable to the variety. Moreover, the farmers have attempted to retain the monopoly rents and extra profits from public supports by associating producers. The horizontally associated farmers stabilized their positions by enhancing their bargaining power against exporters, as well as by managing access to the public supports by controlling memberships.

  • The country using factoring actively today is England. The history of factoring could throw back to the Middle Ages, but modern factoring was developed in colonial age of the United States and it was known throughout England in 1960s. At the beginning, it performed mercantile agent who works in local area in order to get rid of uncertainty and inconvenience of a distant trade, but it was getting developed into a today's factoring system which focusing more on financial function. The factoring is called 'account receivable financing' in the United States and it is started out as sales agent and getting developed to 'del credere agent' who guarantee the payment. The activities of factors have been expanded to not only consignment sale and payment guarantees but also advance financing service. However, at the end of the 19th century, the direct sales(direct marketing) was expanded by the development of telecommunication and transportation technology, and then the marketing service by factor was degraded, but the collection of payment and advance finance had been maintained until now and developed into today's factoring system. Especially, the establishment of Uniform Commercial Code in 1931 had formed the basis for activating factoring in the United States through preparing a legal basis of factoring. Due to changes of international trade environment, most of commercial bank in Korea have to deal with export factoring as a trade finance service and it is desirable to specialize as a financing for small and medium company.

  • 자라는 일본, 대만, 중국 및 한국 등 극동아시아지역에서 주로 건강식품 소재로 소비되고 있으며 최대 소비국인 일본의 경우 전통적인 특수 보양식의 소재로 널리 이용되거나 oil, 혈액, 엑기스, 분말, 혼합제제 등 다양한 형태의 건강식품으로 가공ㆍ이용되고 있어 그 양식량도 급격히 증가하고 있다. 우리 나라는 90년대 소규모의 자라양식의 성공으로 양식산 자라의 생산량이 급증하는 추세이나 고부가가치 이용기술의 부재(不在)로 대부분 민간 한방요법 소재로 소량 활용되고 있을 뿐 본격적인 가공이용 및 수출도 기대하기 어려운 실정이다.   • This study was carried out to investigate conveyance environment during shipping export to Japan and the optimum pre-treatment of cut Dendranthema grandiflorum 'Baekma'. Shipping from Korea to Japan, which usually takes three to five days, requires keeping the flower at the ideal temperature. When inspection took place in Japan, the ideal temperature was lost and deterioration began. Once the ideal temperature is lost, deterioration takes place. The results of this work showed that vase life was extended by treatment Chrysal RVB and NaOCl compared to the control (distilled water), and Chrysal RVB was used to maintain the flower from bud to full bloom. Bacterial growth was not observed after pretreatment with NaOCl or $ClO_2$. However, $ClO_2$ pre-treatment was observed to affect the early growth period of the bacteria. The chlorophyll content was the highest after Chrysal RVB or NaOCl pretreatment compared to the other treatments. Therefore, these results support pretreatment with NaOCl and Chrysal RVB of Dendranthema grandiflorum 'Baekma' for export to Japan.
