In this study, both the model test and the numerical analysis were carried out to figure out the physical behaviour of the model pile during the tunnelling. As a result, both the vertical and the horizontal displacements were simultaneously occurred in the model pile which is subjected to the working load during the volume loss. Consequently, the phenomenon of inclination took place in the model pile. The degree of inclination of the model pile depends on volume loss due to tunnel excavation, pile tip's offset from the tunnel centre, and bearing ground conditions in which pile tip is located. Therefore, in the planning stage of urban tunnelling not only the ground behaviour with respect to the pile locations, but also the physical behaviour of pile itself should be carefully analysed to avoid damage of adjacent buildings.

This study measured the natural-convection heat transfer of two vertically staggered cylinders with varying vertical pitch-to-diameter ($P_v$/D) and horizontal pitch-to-diameter ($P_h$/D) ratios. The measured heat-transfer rates for the lower cylinder agreed well with the existing heat-transfer correlations for a single cylinder. At the smallest $P_v$/D, the rising plume from the lower cylinder provides the upper cylinder with a preheated flow, and the heat-transfer rates of the upper cylinder decrease, but increase very sensitively with $P_h$/D. However, at the largest $P_v$/D, the velocity effect dominates, and the heat-transfer rates of the upper cylinder are larger than that of a single cylinder, and decrease less sensitively with $P_h$/D. Even if $P_h$/D is increased, the heat-transfer rate of the upper cylinder is higher than that of the lower cylinder because of the chimney and side flow effects. This work expanded the flow ranges to turbulent flows. The cupric acid-copper sulfate ($H_2SO_4-CuSO_4$) electroplating system was adopted for the measurements of the mass-transfer rates instead of the heat-transfer experiments based on the analogy concept. The measurements were made by varying $P_v$/D (1.02-5) and $P_h$/D (0-2) in both laminar and turbulent flows. The Rayleigh number ranged from $1.5{\times}10^8$ to $2.5{\times}10^{10}$, and the Prandtl number was 2,014.

In the current work, a series of three-dimensional finite element analyses have been carried out to understand the behaviour of pre-existing single piles to adjacent tunnelling by considering the tunnel face pressures and the relative location of pile tips with respect to the tunnel. The numerical modelling has analysed the effect of the face pressures on the pile behaviour. The analyses concentrate on the ground settlements, the pile head settlements, the axial pile forces and the shear stress transfer mechanism at the pile-soil interface. The head settlements of the pile (the vertical distance between the pile and the tunnel: 0.25D, where D is the tunnel diameter) directly above the tunnel crown with the face pressure 50% of the in-situ horizontal soil stress at the tunnel springline decreased by about 38% compared to corresponding settlements with a face pressure 25% of the in-situ horizontal soil stress at the tunnel springline. Furthermore, it was found that the smaller the face pressure, the larger the tunnelling-induced ground movements and the axial pile forces were and the higher the degree of the shear strength mobilisation at the pile-soil interface. When the piles were outside the tunnel influence zone, compressive pile forces were developed due to tunnelling. It has been found that the ground settlements and the pile settlements are heavily affected by the face pressures and the position of the pile tip relative to the tunnel. In addition, the computed results have been compared with relevant studies previously reported in literature. The behaviour of the piles has been extensively examined and analysed by considering the key features in great detail.
When deformation occurs on slope reinforced with anchor, shear stress and bending stress are applied on the shear surface along the slip surface and increase of the shear deformation causes the tension force variation of the anchor. In this study, shear test was performed by measuring the tension force of the anchor by inducing shear deformation in vertical direction of the anchor using a large-scale direct shear test equipment in order to confirm the tension force variation of the anchor induced by shear deformation. The shear test was performed for 8 conditions which were classified according to the anchor reinforcement, separation distance (1D, 2D, 4D) from the shear surface to bonded part and the lateral-pressure condition (0.1 MPa, 0.2 MPa) of adjacent ground. As a result of the shear test, it was found that the separation distance and the lateral-pressure condition affect the shear force of the ground reinforced by anchor and the tension force of the anchor, and experimentally verified that the shear force variation is related to axial force variation of the anchor head and tip. Therefore, it was confirmed that the behavior of the bonded part induced by the shear deformation can be indirectly predicted by analyzing the tendency of the tension force variation of the anchor head.
In this research, in order to prevent spread of vertical flame from building exterior fire, A head was developed. The performance standards of Head development complied with NFPA 80A 7.7.4.3 (Recommended Practice for Protection of Buildings Exterior Fire Exposures) and the standards are applied to the discharge pressure was 0.05 MPa and the discharge flow rate was 60 l/min. The head was developed about applied to 0.05 MPa and 65 l/min through the process of the experiment of five times, it is processed from drencher head and used in domestic intended use and structure are quite different. An appropriate distances between the head and the head proved as the experimental results to within 3 m~5 m and it selectively applied to the design is being considered depending on the fire hazard strength.

The horizontal-to-vertical spectral ratio (HVSR) of ambient noise is widely used to identify the resonant frequency of a site. The frequency at the largest HVSR is regarded as the resonant frequency. The source of ambient noise is impossible to identify and control. Therefore, obtaining reliable HVSR of ambient noise requires sufficient measurement time and absence of near-field vibration. In this study, we investigated the minimum stabilization time required for a portable seismometer and the effect of the distance between the seismometer and artificial vibration on HVSR estimation. In the case of a soil site, the HVSR was stabilized after 5 minutes after sensor installation. In the case of a rock site, stabilization required more than an hour. Human-footsteps within 10 m of the seismometer strongly influenced the HVSR for the soil site. These results provide a field guideline when measuring ambient noise for HVSR.
Wall displacements caused by earth pressure, rainfalls, rise in ground water level, inappropriate deep excavation and structural defects of the wall may produce differential settlements to existing buildings, which often result in damages and/or collapses of the building structures. In this case, measures to protect the walls and nearby structures would be required. One of the recent measures to reduce differential settlements and protecting walls is to reinforce the ground using micro-piles. In this study physical model tests were carried out to evaluate the performance of the micro-pile method. It is revealed that reduction of the settlement was maximized when the length of micro-pile is twice of the foundation width, distance between piles is twice of the pile diameter and the distance to wall is one tenth of the foundation width. Based on the test results some design recommendations were made.
This study aims to establish the methodology for design of an optimum water curtain system of the unlined underground oil storage cavern satisfying the requirements of hydrodynamic performance in a volcanic terrain of the south coastal area. For the optimum water curtain system in the storage facility, the general characteristics of groundwater flow system in the site are quantitatively described, i.e. distribution of hydraulic gradients, groundwater inflow rate into the storage caverns, and hydrogeologic influence area of the cavern. In this study, numerical models such as MODFLOW, FracMan/MAFIC and CONNECTFLOW are used for calculating the hydrogeological stability parameters. The design of a horizontal water curtain system requires considering the distance between water curtain and storage cavern, spacing of the water curtain boreholes, and injection pressure. From the numerical simulations at different scales, the optimum water curtain systems satisfying the containment criteria are obtained. The inflow rates into storage caverns estimated by a continuum model ranged from about 120 m$^3$/day during the operation stage to 130~140m$^3$/day during the construction stage, whereas the inflow rates by a fracture network model are 80~175m$^3$/day. The excavation works in the site will generate the excessive decline of groundwater level in a main fracture zone adjacent to the cavern. Therefore, the vertical water curtain system is necessary for sustaining the safe groundwater level in the fracture zone.
Using a natural gradient tracer test, the characteristics of hydrodynamic dispersion according to each depth of a fractured rock were studied, and the effective porosity and longitudinal dispersivity of the fractured rock were estimated. The difference of vertical hydrodynamic dispersion was identified by concentration breakthrough curves linear regression analyses of bromide concentrations according to depths versus time, and hydraulic fracture characteristics at two intervals of the monitoring well. Higher concentration and faster arrival time at GL- 18 m depth (RQD 13%, average joint spacing 2 cm, TCR 100%) than at GL- 25 m depth (RQD 41%, average joint spacing 7 cm, TCR 100%) resulted from shorter distance and more fractures. Tracer was transported through the 1 st fractures until the arrival of its peak concentration and through the 2nd fractures or matrix diffusion after the arrival of its peak concentration. The increase/decrease slopes of bromide concentration versus time were 3.46/-1.57 at GL-18 m depth and 3.l9/-0.47 at GL- 25 m depth of the monitoring well. So the faster bromide transport was confirmed at GL- 18 m depth with more fractures. The concentration increment of bromide was fitted by a Gaussian function and the concentration decrement of bromide was fitted by an exponential function. Effective porosity and longitudinal dispersivity estimated by CATTI code were 10.50% and 0.85 m, respectively.

This study was carried out near the waters of Jango port, Dangjin-gun, Chungcheongnam-do by utilizing 10kHz carrier frequency, for the purpose of measurement and analysis of underwater channel environment of the Western sea. For the measurement of horizontal channel environment, the separation distance between transmitter and receiver is made differently in the range between 10m and 4000m. Meanwhile, for the measurement of vertical channel environment, transmission and receiving side ships are fixed as contacted each other and measured differently depending on their depth of submergence. In this study, the Coherence Bandwidth and the Coherence Time were estimated by analyzing the Power delay profile of the real sea based on the measured data, and analyzing the doppler frequency through frequency conversion of received tone-signal, respectively. This study is expected to become a base study in carrying out the frame design for underwater communication to improve the communication and secure the reliability of communication in future underwater channel environment.
