The composite structures of steel and reinforced concrete, which have been widely used in large-scale concrete structures, werestudied to investigate the cause of unexpected cracks and to verify the composite actions between the two materials. Vertical stiffeners between flanges, studs and dowel bars, stirrups, and concrete strength were chosen as experimental variables in afour-point loading test. The results showed that the vertical stiffener prevented not only the local web buckling, but also bond failures between steel and concrete. It increased the flexural resistance (fracture loads) due to the composite action of two materials, compared withthose of any experimental variable. However, the composite behavior of steel reinforced concrete beam was not affected seriously by additional studs, dowel bars, stirrups, and concrete strength.
Two-girder bridge is composed of primary members such as deck slab and main girder, and secondary member such as cross beam, vertical and horizontal stiffeners etc,. Two-girder bridge is prescribed as a non-redundant load path structure in the ASSHTO and the Korean Highway Bridge Design Code. Such structure is that if one girder is damaged, problems of function and safety of the bridge are caused. From the reasons, fatigue cracks in two-girder bridge can affect safety of the bridge seriously. Therefore, in this paper, fatigue evaluation was performed at connection parts of vertical stiffener and web with radius of curvature of scallop of vertical stiffener and thickness of web as variables. Such joint is known as a detail which has high possibility of fatigue crack in the bridge. Based upon the analytical results, preferable joint detail in terms of fatigue and simple empirical formula for fatigue evaluation of the detail were suggested.

To increase the efficiency of the urban areas, pipe section steel piers, which have relatively small sections, must be constructed. Since smaller sections mean decreased load capacity, longitudinal stiffeners were applied to the pipe section steel piers to increase their load capacity. Increased load capacity through longitudinal stiffeners, however, could not yet be confirmed. Therefore, the effect of longitudinal stiffeners on the load capacity of pipe section steel piers still needs to be studied. In this paper, the effect of the number of longitudinal stiffeners on the load capacity of steel piers was determined by carrying out elastic plastic FE analysis on material and geometric non-linearity. In addition, comparative analyses of the parameters of the width, the thickness of longitudinal stiffeners, and the slenderness ratio of steel piers were carried out to determine the effects of longitudinal stiffeners.

This study was conducted to identify the structural performance of the opening in a location close to the support point in the perforated beam system of steel beams. In addition, structural performance was determined through experiments on reinforced openings using vertical and horizontal steel plates. In the steel simple beam, it was found that the opening was in a position closer to the support point, half the height of the steel beam (D/2), which was more appropriate than the height of the steel beam (D). In addition, the reinforcement effect of horizontal steel plate was greater than that of vertical steel plate reinforcement. Structural performance was improved when there was no gap between openings and steel plates.
The thin web panels of plate girders often need to be reinforced with transverse stiffeners to increase the shear strength. Since early 1960s, extensive researches have been conducted on the ultimate shear strength of plate girder webs with transverse stiffeners. These results have been first adopted into AASHTO(1970) and British Standard(1983) Specifications for the determination of the ultimate shear strength of transversely stiffened web panels. Although the main purposes of reinforcing web panels with longitudinal stiffeners are to increase the buckling strength and to control the lateral deflections due to bending, it has been reported that the longitudinal stiffeners increase the shear strength. However lack of studies has kept the effects of the longitudinal stiffeners on the ultimate shear strength from the design of plate girder web panels. In the present study an experimental investigation is carried out in order to assess the increment of the ultimate shear strength of shear web panels due to the longitudinal stiffeners and the results are compared with the existing failure theories.
It is important to increase the economy and efficiency of the diaphragm of the steel box girder bridge design. In this study, an experimental test is performed in a 4-span steel box girder bridge, which was under constructed according to the dead load of slab concrete and vehicle load. The test result is analyzed to verify the stress distribution of the diaphragm and the middle span. Next, stresses on the vertical stiffener are analyzed according to height. Stresses on the diaphragm with equal height are arranged respectively. Also, the stress distribution of the diaphragm and the middle span. Next, stress on the vertical stiffeners are analyzed according to height. Stresses on the diaphragm with equal height are arranged respectively. Also, the vertical stiffeners in the diaphragm was studied, and using the analyzed results, the proper length of the ratio of vehicle load with curing concrete to vehicle load with asphalt is calculated in each part of the steel box girder bridge. The results provide data that serve as basis for an economical and efficient design for the steel box girder bridge diaphragm.

This paper presents numerical analysis results for the lateral-torsional buckling (LTB) strength of steel I-girder bridges. Current Korean and AASHTO design specifications for LTB consider the buckling strength of a single girder with both its ends constrained. The I-girder bridges are composed of more than one girder, and the girders are interconnected with intermediate cross-beams or cross-frames. Therefore, it should be required to evaluate the effects of cross-beam stiffness and the interactionof girders on LTB strength. It is also necessary to consider the effects of transverse web stiffeners on LTB strength. By considering these parameters, a series of four-girder systemswere numerically modeled using 3D shell elements to estimate the LTB strength while considering initial imperfections and residual stresses.

In the existing study of steel beams with openings, openings are located at a location where the distance to the support point is equal to or greater than the section height. Considering the facilities using the openings in the steel beam, the distance from the opening to the support point may be closer than the height of the beam section. Therefore, research on this is needed. This study is an experimental study to understand the structural performance of beams with openings close to the ends subjected to Cyclic Loading. In addition, in this study, we want to understand the structural performance through experiments on beams with openings reinforced with vertical or horizontal steel plates.
