The Characteristics of Farm Household in Suburban Areas Classified by the Farming Types and Changes of Facility Farm Household's Management Size - A Case Study of Munsanli, Taegu - (대도시근교 농촌지역의 농가특성과 시설농가의 경영규모 변화 - 대구광역시 문산리를 사례로 -)

  • Summarized results of this study that examined the characteristics of farm household in suburban areas classified by the fanning types are as follows. When it was looked into with the side of farm household and his family, the type of the farm household in suburban areas are related to the quality of fanning labor rather than the quantity of it. Regardless of the type of the farm household, it depends upon the family labor (usually men and wives). And the age of farm manager is an important part in the quality of fanning labor. The size of the farm household is related to the individual fanning labor. The size of self-sufficient crops(mainly rice) farm household will be small as the farmer gets to be old. But the size of commercial crops farm household has less tendency to change in terms with the age of farm manager. The fanning commercialism takes an important part in the maintenance and development of suburban agricultural areas. But, in fact, there is a shortage of farming labor. So the physical condition of farmland is the most important part in agricultural durability. After this study, we can conclude that we won't have enough chance to solve the problem of family member separation and shortage of fanning labor even though it is in the suburban area or in the profitable farm until we give them more enough chance to get a job(except fanning) and the better education infrastructure. To make matters worse, the aggravation of farm house-hold's economy due to unstable price of farming products' threatens the agricultural durability. Consequently, in order to get a development of agriculture and rural community, a qualitative change with improvement of agricultural conditions and of products distribution system is needed.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the changes in the recovery of equipment using full containers loaded with freight instead of direct container transportation according to the sales policy considering the cost of transporting the containers. The EMU operation case was analyzed. The policies implemented by Company A to provide EMU credits depended only on the relative accountability contribution margin per box (RA CMPB) for the profitability of backhaul full freight. Therefore, these policies resulted in limitations in sales based on profitable accountability (PA) CMPB, which is more profitable. Moreover, while some Asian regions have surplus equipment, many Asian destinations to which their freight is exported have equipment shortages. Thus, in some cases, service sales to the regions with surplus equipment generated greater company-wide profits when compared with the return of empty containers or sales to the regions with insufficient equipment. In other words, the conditions for providing EMU credits should be changed, and even the full freight between regions with surplus equipment should be provided with credit amounts in which potential factory and transport costs in a destination are pre-reflected.

Usefulness and Limitations of Extreme Value Theory VAR model : The Korean Stock Market (극한치이론을 이용한 VAR 추정치의 유용성과 한계 - 우리나라 주식시장을 중심으로 -)

  • This study applies extreme value theory to get extreme value-VAR for Korean Stock market and showed the usefulness of the approach. Block maxima model and POT model were used as extreme value models and tested which model was more appropriate through back testing. It was shown that the block maxima model was unstable as the variation of the estimate was very large depending on the confidence level and the magnitude of the estimates depended largely on the block size. This shows that block maxima model was not appropriate for Korean Stock market. On the other hand POT model was relatively stable even though extreme value VAR depended on the selection of the critical value. Back test also showed VAR showed a better result than delta VAR above 97.5% confidence level. POT model performs better the higher the confidence level, which suggests that POT model is useful as a risk management tool especially for VAR estimates with a confidence level higher than 99%. This study picks up the right tail and left tail of the return distribution and estimates the EVT-VAR for each, which reflects the asymmetry of the return distribution of the Korean Stock market.

  • As the use of trading systems increases recently, many researchers are interested in developing intelligent trading systems using artificial intelligence techniques. However, most prior studies on trading systems have common limitations. First, they just adopted several technical indicators based on stock indices as independent variables although there are a variety of variables that can be used as independent variables for predicting the market. In addition, most of them focus on developing a model that predicts the direction of the stock market indices rather than one that can generate trading signals for maximizing returns. Thus, in this study, we propose a novel intelligent trading system that mitigates these limitations. It is designed to use both the technical indicators and the other non-price variables on the market. Also, it adopts 'two-threshold mechanism' so that it can transform the outcome of the stock market prediction model based on support vector machines to the trading decision signals like buy, sell or hold. To validate the usefulness of the proposed system, we applied it to the real world data-the KOSPI200 index from May 2004 to December 2009. As a result, we found that the proposed system outperformed other comparative models from the perspective of 'rate of return'.

  • 1997년과 1998년 4월 1일자의 M&A제한규정이었던 증권거래법 제200조의 철폐와 적대적 M&A의 전면허용 그리고 외국자본의 투자제한의 간소화 등 규제완화조치와, 향후 외국인에 대해서 100%까지 주식을 매입할 수 있는 적대적 M&A가 허용될 것으로 보여 우리나라에서도 M&A활동이 보다 본격화 될 것으로 전망되고 있다. 우리나라에서는 1980년대부터 M&A에 대한 관심과 연구가 시작되면서 지금까지 기업합병ㆍ인수의 동기와 효과에 대해서 많은 연구가 이루어져 왔다. 지금까지의 연구내용은 대부분 기업의 M&A동기는 시너지효과를 얻기 위함이며, 또한 공시정보가 합병공시일 전후동안에 주가수익율에 반영되어 합병 당사기업의 주주의 부에 영향을 미치는지의 주가변화 유무에 국한된 것이었다. 또한 1985년부터 1991년 초 사이에 이루어졌던 연구는 당시 국내 M&A 환경이 매우 열악하고 극히 제한된 비정상적인 자본시장 상황 하에서 이루어진 사례에 의한 연구이었기 때문에 연구결과의 문제점과 한계성이 있었고, 실효성 측면에서도 다소 미흡하였다고 할 수 있다. 우리나라 M&A의 성장발전과정을 크게 2단계로 분류한다면, 제1단계는 1975년부터 시작하여 1990년까지로써 이 기간동안의 M&A환경은 그 여건조성과 성숙준비단계였으며, 제2단계인 1990년 초부터 비로소 선진국형 시장경제원리에 근거한 보다 경쟁적이고 자율적인 M&A 시장구조가 형성되면서 활성화 단계로 진입하였다고 볼 수 있을 것이다. 본 연구의 주된 목적은 1990년부터 1996년 사이에 이루어진 상장기업의 M&A 사례를 표본으로 하여 한국에서의 기업합병과 기업인수(주식취득)가 기업가치에 미치는 영향을 구명하는데 있다. 이를 위하여 먼저, M&A 당사기업의 합병성과 발생과 차이 유무를 주가수익율을 측정하여 실증분석하고 다음으로 M&A에 따른 시너지의 잠재적 원천이 어디에 있는지 재무성과분석을 통해서 이를 실증하는데 목적이 있다.PA-designated retailers ("sellers") must accept end-of-life items returned to them by the consumers.   • In 1997 the recession of Korean economy brought about the bankruptcy of large corporations and the large size of non-Performing financial assets which led to IMF financial crisis. One of the major reasons for IMF financial crisis was poor loan management of domestic financial institutions . During the restructuring process of financial institutions since the IMF financial crisis, the importance of the loan management has been recognized. Especially. financial institutions' credit allocation had been concentrated on a few big conglomerates and their subsidies as well as some specific business areas. Hence, risk-diversifying portfolio effects were not reflected in any loan portfolios. The IMF financial crisis in 1997 has clearly showed that credit-risk management is essential not only for individuals' loan but also for portfolios consisting of various loans The main objective of this paper is to provide some suggestions on the direction for financial institutions in Korea to improve their loan portfolio management. Particularly, for the effective management of loan portfolios, this paper introduces quantitative credit-risk management schemes such as KMV models and CreditMetrics which are commonly used in financial institutions in advanced countries. Financial institutions in Korea should make their best efforts to establish a more scientific as well as quantitative loan portfolio management.

  • The IT industry has made rapid development and also had an economic impact on other industries Also, since the fourth industrial revolution has begun in recent years ago, so The convergence between IT and other industries is increasing. Therefore, the development of the IT industry will enhance the international competitiveness It will also have a major impact on the nation's economic growth. Therefore, IT firms should be more efficient in their production. so This paper analyzes the efficiency of High-growth IT firms using DEA model. We evaluate the CCR, BBC efficiency and RTS(return to scale) of 12 IT firms. As a result, there were 6 companies with BCC efficiency 1 and 4 companies with 1 CCR efficiency. The scale of profitability was analyzed by IRS as 7 companies and CRS as 5 companies. We also suggest the IT firms which can be benchmarked based on analyzed information. It is expected to provide investors and external stakeholders with very useful information on managerial management efficiency.

  • Until recently, most people have invested in a traditional portfolio consisting of stocks, bonds and real estates based on the three-division method of properties in Korea. However, this study analyzed the impact of the composition of a portfolio combining representative real estate indirect investment products such as Reits and real estate funds on the investment performance. For this purpose, the empirical analysis using the mean variance model, which is the most appropriate method for the portfolio composition, was used. For variables used in this study, mixed asset portfolios were classified into Portfolio A through Portfolio G depending on the composition of assets, and the price indices selected as Kospi, Krx bond, Reits Trus Y7, Hanwha-Lasal fund, and Office (Seoul). The results are as follows; first Portfolio D, which combined bonds, stocks, Reits and Real Estate funds, and Portfolio G, which added the office, the actual real estate, were shown to have the lowest risk. second, Portfolio B composed of bonds, stocks and Reits and Portfolio D with added real estate funds had the lowest risk while Portfolio F composed of bonds, stocks, offices and real estate funds, and Portfolio G with added Reits were the most profitable. As a result, it has been analyzed that it was more effective to compose a portfolio including Reits and real estate funds, which were real estate indirect investment products that eliminated the illiquidity limitation of real estates than real estates, the traditional three-division method of properties. Therefore, it is possible to minimize the risk of investors and reduce the cost of ownership of the real estate by solving the illiquidity problem that is the biggest disadvantage of the direct investment, In addition, it is considered that it is more necessary to reinvigorate the real estate indirect investment market where small amounts can be invested.

Does the Rapid Internationalization of Companies affect BGF's Financial Performance? - Focused on the Korean BGF Cases (신속한 국제화 전략이 기업의 성과에 어떤 영향을 미치는가? - 한국의 BGF를 중심으로)

  • This study attempt to use secondary data from KIS-Value to understand how rapid globalization strategy affects BGF's performance defined five categories such as sales volume, return on investment, net profit per employee, increase in sales, and increase in net profit per employee. In particular, this research defines the BGF based on the export ratio within five years after the establishment and classifies BGF into three levels according to 25%, 50%, and 75% concentration of exports. The main results of this study were first, the rapid internationalization strategy was proven to have a sales effect in the short and long term, and in particular, the short term effect was more significantly compared to the long term effect. However, the impact on the return on investment(ROI) of BGF was found that the more stringent the BGF level, the more short-term effect on ROI, but the longer-term effect was diluted according to time. Third, the sales growth rate is significant in the short-term depending on the BGF level, but do not have long-term effects same as ROI. On the other hand, the growth rate of net profit has shown that the BGF strategy has a negative (-) effect over the long term. In particular, the higher the BGF level, the greater the negative impact on the increase in net profit.

A Study on the Cooperative of Franchise Industry : Focusing on the Case of US Dunkin' Donuts (프랜차이즈산업의 협동조합에 관한 연구 - 미국 던킨 도너츠를 중심으로 -)

  • This study intends to suggest the cooperative, win-win collaboration, as methods for settling disputes with the existing self-employed people over back-street business areas and disputes and conflicts between a franchiser and franchisees. In addition, it intends to analyze the Dunkin' Donuts purchasing cooperative in the US, where the franchising industry has been well developed; and to find the implications of cooperation strategies between Dunkin' Donuts and its franchisees that may be helpful for the South Korea's franchising industry. This study tries to discover a new model of the Korean-style franchise cooperative out of the basic principles and practice guidelines of cooperatives ranging from an early American franchise cooperative in 1955 to ARCOP, KFC, and Dunkin' Doughnuts in the late 1970s. Further, it looks into successful programs of a purchasing cooperative at Dunkin' Donuts such as TDP (Total Distribution Program), SFP (Shortening Futures Program) and DCP (Distribution Commitment Program). The case of the US Dunkin' Donuts, which operates the purchasing cooperative, suggests the following for the improvement of franchisees' profitability. First, relations of cooperation rather than of power are necessary between a franchiser and franchisees. Second, mutual solidarity of franchisees is necessary. Third, problems proper to the Korean franchise system should be improved. Fourth, an entrepreneurial spirit of going together rather than going fast is required. Fifth, complete satisfaction management is required. Considering different system environments between the two countries such as quantitative expansion within a short franchising history of 30 years or so and franchise profit models, there is a limit to generalizing down to a successful model of the win-win partnership cooperative. It is hoped that the sustainable management of the domestic franchising industry will be promoted in the future through the in-depth analysis of successful cooperatives.
