Operating Systems is a discipline which handles abstract concepts and techniques. However, most of OS courses have been textbook-oriented theoretical classes. Theoretical classes lead to the decline in the understanding of a lecture, and hurt their concentration. Many instructors have tried to make use of educational tools to help students understand lectures and arouse interests. This paper describes the design and implementation of a CPU scheduling simulator which shows the operation of process scheduling algorithms visually. The academic achievement evaluation for 2010's students and 2011's and t-test results show that the differences of the correct answer ratio for the exam about CPU scheduling algorithms are meaningful. The survey shows that the simulator is useful as an educational tool which causes the interests and enhances the understanding of a lecture, this teaching method is effective to develop problem solving skills.
The purpose of this study was to explore the direction of application and quality management plan of science curriculum of elementary and middle school according to the 2009 revised curriculum. In order to do this, nationwide survey was administered. The subject was 126 elementary school teachers and 88 middle school science teachers. It was founded that teachers had negative opinion on the introduction of the grade cluster system. They considered that it was appropriate to link the contents of Science subject with Practical Arts(Technology Home Economics) subject by similar topic. Science classes were implemented without changing the number of class hours in most schools. They recognized the necessity of differentiated instruction in science classes, but they seldom applied the differentiated instruction. And they suggested that the teaching-learning materials, evaluation materials and contents be provided to apply the STEAM. This study designates the following strategic supports for the effective implementation of 2009 revised science curriculum; 1) the science teachers training program to provide useful information for understanding and teaching the 2009 revised science curriculum, 2) the teachers' community in the school, 3) the development and provision of the feasible STEAM plans.

In this study, we investigated how 'Scientific Inquiry Experiment,' a newly introduced subject under the 2015 revised curriculum, was implemented to identify the difficulties that science teachers face in the process of teaching the subject and to explore how to support them through online survey and interview methods. A questionnaire of the survey, which consisted of environmental factors of class, preparation and execution of class, teacher self-evaluation of class, and direction for the subject, was developed, and the online survey was requested with a response from one teacher per school from 1674 high schools nationwide. We analyzed the results from 814 teachers who answered all required questions, and we also conducted interviews and online advisory discussions to ensure the validity of our analysis. In the results of the study, teachers complained of lack of time for preparation and execution of the subject, and they demanded laboratory assistants and quality teaching materials. In addition, in order to achieve the goal of the subject, they agreed the necessity of using the 'block scheduling' though they also agreed the difficulties of its implementation. Meanwhile, the alteration of guidelines for evaluation, which was changed from 9-grade system to 3-grade system, was positively recognized by teachers. As a result of this change, the percentage of performance assessment increased in 2019 compared to 2018, but there were no significant changes in the number of 'hands-on activity.' Finally, we proposed ways to support 'scientific inquiry experiment'.

Recently, there has been a dramatic increase in the number of cases that have formed and operated teachers' learning communities through cross-curricular consulting at the school level. The purpose of this study is to explore cross-curricular instructional consulting as an activity of teachers' learning communities at the school level, and investigate the effect of cross-curricular instructional consulting on middle school science teaching. We analyzed features and limitations of cross-curricular instructional consulting revealed in three case studies in middle school, including open classes and instructional consulting sessions, and conducted additional instructional consulting on the same videotaped science classes with science experts from outside. According to the results, science inquiry experiments are often replaced with text reading and interpreting, students' misconceptions and exact scientific representations are ignored, and the goal setting as well as class coverage has been questionable and disputable in science classes resulted from cross-curricular instructional consulting. Discussed in the conclusion are the necessity of cross-curricular instructional consulting in middle school, and ways to overcome limitations of the method of cross-curricular instructional consulting, including alternatives to a praise-only policy in cross-curricular instructional consulting, ways to use cross-curricular instructional consulting without compromising the subject's essence, and ways to improve the undue authority of consultants.
As universities have operated non-face-to-face semesters due to COVID-19, although instructors applying flipped learning to their classes also have changed it into non-face-to-face ways, there is still a lack of exploratory research on effectiveness of the new form of flipped learning. In this study, we explored the effectiveness of the non-face-to-face flipped learning by analyzing students' learning experiences throughout FGI and survey. By doing so, we sought to provide in-depth insights for successful implications of non-face-to-face flipped learning classes ultimately. The findings showed that many learners positively evaluated non-face-to-face flipped learning in terms of interactions, including quizzes, team activities, and interpersonal interactions (e.g., Q&A, feedback) with professors in non-face-to-face flipped learning classes. The result of the survey also showed significant differences in the pre-post test regarding learner's perceived learning achievement. Based on these findings, the implications were discussed.
Using Korea Education Longitudinal Study and administrative school data, this paper analyzes school characteristics that influence the demand for private education. Among other findings, it should be noted that private education expenditure tends to be decreased when student evaluation of teacher effectiveness is high, the average education level of teachers is high, and individualized education is offered through subject-based classroom. These results suggest that the demand for private education could be dropped by a better quality and high effort of teachers, which would be attained through an improved education system for teaching profession and student-oriented teacher evaluation. In addition, ability grouping within school via subject-based classrooms with different levels appears to be helpful to overcome uniformity of school equalization system without inducing an increasing demand for private education.
In recent years, vocational training has shifted away from lectures and practice-oriented methods in light of rising demand for project-based classes in which trainees can produce results while simultaneously receiving feedbacks from field experts from the industry. Therefore, this study aims to suggest a salient role of the project-based classes of enterprise-customized training programs, which private vocational training institutions regard as vital, by identifying demands from trainees or the actual beneficiaries of these programs. To this end, a written survey of the trainees' perception of the enterprise-customized training programs was conducted along with a qualitative analysis of open-ended questions. Specifically, we analyzed the overall satisfaction level of these classes, their contribution to employment, degree of meeting the expectations, and areas for improvements to ultimately derive significant implications.
The purpose of the study is to analyze the impact of blended learning's external classroom formats and internal teaching strategies, which has been implemented in university classes due to COVID-19, on students' academic achievement and learners' perceptions, as well as to provide insights into the desirable direction of online education. The study was conducted during the 1st semester of 2022 at G University, targeting students taking Calculus I. The experimental group consisted of 117 students, while the control group consisted of 707 students. Blended learning, involving a combination of face-to-face classes, online classes, and mixed teaching methods, was implemented, and academic achievement and learner perceptions were assessed. The research findings indicate that compared to solely online classes, adopting a blended learning approach with online classes before the midterm and face-to-face classes afterwards resulted in a decline in academic achievement. The unprepared and simplistic external format of blended learning was found to be ineffective, however, a blended learning model consisting solely of online classes, incorporating a mix of asynchronous and synchronous instruction, demonstrated positive learner perceptions. Additionally, utilizing technology in the teaching strategies yielded positive outcome.
This study analyzes the performance of flipped learning, an offline class method conducted in a degree-linked work-learning parallel system. Training in the work-study parallel system, which is conducted as part of job competency improvement, has thoroughly adhered to the offline method, but in line with COVID-19, unlike before, it is changing in the direction of using the online method more actively. However, educational methods such as flipped learning are not new because the degree-linked operation is applied to the academic system and education method of universities and is practically the same form as general university education. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the educational performance and complementary points of flipped learning, which has recently been expanded in the degree-linked work-study parallel system, considering the characteristics of this system, in which classes are held only on weekends. As a result of statistical analysis based on the survey, some of the outcomes of flipped learning have been confirmed, and in order to increase the performances, it is necessary to continuously seek out specific measures to encourage learning and expand communication between instructors and students.
The purpose of this study is to improve education program for Informal Science Education Institution by analyzing education program of Natural History Museum, one of informal science education institution. This research subject is Seodaemun Museum of Natural History, located in Seodaemun-Gu, Seoul. It is Public Natural History Museum, which runs more than 60 education programs every year continuously for recent 6 years. Objects of this study are 32 education programs for 3rd to 6th grade of elementary school. The result of study shows that teaching materials of programs, run by informal science education institution, don't contain enough script and activity for improving creativity and inquiring mind. As the result of the study, it is required that guidance plan of education program be developed with more activities, teaching method and script, to seek quality of class than quantity of that when developing education program of science education institutes. And it is required to develop teaching material using creative technique and to improve medium and long term program for development of feedback.
