Performance Enhancement using Hierarchical Modulation in Distributed Relaying Systems (분산 릴레이 시스템에서 계층적 변조를 이용한 성능 향상)

  • Various relay technologies have been considered in wireless communication systems to enlarge the coverage and to enhance the system throughput. However, the coverage is limited by its modulation levels and additional time slot(s) is required for relaying. In the paper, by applying the hierarchical modulation to two-relay systems, two-hop relaying can be implemented instead of three hops, and both throughput and coverage can be enhanced. Throughout simulation analysis, the coverage extension is evaluated for different modulation levels and the total throughput is increased by up to two times.

  • 본 논문에서는 다중경로 페이딩 환경에서의 하이브리드 (Hybrid) SC/MRC-L$_{c}$/L 다이버시티 수신기법과 콘볼루션 부호화 기법을 각각 이용할 때의 광대역 DS-CDMA 시스템의 성능을 구하였다. 다중경로 페이딩으로는 라이시안 페이딩 채널을 가정하였고, 다중사용자간섭의 영향을 함께 분석하였다. 그리고 하이브리드 SC/MRC-L$_{c}$/L 다이버시티 기법과 론볼루션 부호화 기법을 채용하여 성능개선정도를 비교, 분석하였다. 하이브리드 SC/MRC-L$_{c}$/L 수신에서는 각각의 반송파에 대하여 상관을 취하고 상관기 출력들 중에서 가장 큰 신호성분을 L$_{c}$개만큼 선택하여 최대비 합성하며, 콘볼루션 부호화는 다중경로 페이딩 및 다중접속간섭에 의하여 발생된 오류를 정정 및 검출한다. 분석 결과, 콘볼루션 부호화의 경우는 부호이득과 전력제한 시스템의 trade off를 고려한 부호화율의 선택과 하이브리드 SC/MRC-L$_{c}$/L 수신의 경우, 다이버시티 가지의 증가는 선택의 폭이 커져 성능개선은 이루어지지만 가지의 배수가 동일할 경우 가지의 수가 적은 것이 시스템의 복잡성과 경제적인 면에서 효율적임을 알 수 있었다

On-Glass Vehicle Antennas Using a Multi-Loop Structure (다중 루프 형태의 차량용 글래스 안테나)

  • In this paper, we propose a novel on-glass antenna for FM radio reception in a recreation vehicle(RV). We use a multi-loop structure that takes advantage of a broad matching bandwidth and a high vertical radiation gain by efficiently utilizing a given space of a quarter glass in spite of the simple planar structure. Transparency of the antenna is also improved by adjusting the stripline widths based on the induced current distributions. The proposed antenna is printed on a quarter glass of a commercial vehicle and antenna performances such as the return loss and the gain are measured in a semi-anechoic chamber. The result shows the average gain of -9.67 dBi along the bore-sight direction($\theta=90^{\circ}$, $\phi=270^{\circ}$) in the FM radio band(80$\sim$l10 MHz), which is higher than a commercial monopole typed on-glass antenna($G_{ave}$=-12.49 dBi) and micro-antenna($G_{ave}$=-19.24 dBi) mounted on the roof of the RV.

Design of a Fully Integrated Low Power CMOS RF Tuner Chip for Band-III T-DMB/DAB Mobile TV Applications (Band-III T-DMB/DAB 모바일 TV용 저전력 CMOS RF 튜너 칩 설계)

  • This paper describes a fully integrated CMOS low-IF mobile-TV RF tuner for Band-III T-DMB/DAB applications. All functional blocks such as low noise amplifier, mixers, variable gain amplifiers, channel filter, phase locked loop, voltage controlled oscillator and PLL loop filter are integrated. The gain of LNA can be controlled from -10 dB to +15 dB with 4-step resolutions. This provides a high signal-to-noise ratio and high linearity performance at a certain power level of RF input because LNA has a small gain variance. For further improving the linearity and noise performance we have proposed the RF VGA exploiting Schmoock's technique and the mixer with current bleeding, which injects directly the charges to the transconductance stage. The chip is fabricated in a 0.18 um mixed signal CMOS process. The measured gain range of the receiver is -25~+88 dB, the overall noise figure(NF) is 4.02~5.13 dB over the whole T-DMB band of 174~240 MHz, and the measured IIP3 is +2.3 dBm at low gain mode. The tuner rejects the image signal over maximum 63.4 dB. The power consumption is 54 mW at 1.8 V supply voltage. The chip area is $3.0{\times}2.5mm^2$.

Design and implementation of power-controlled front-end module for direct conversion receiver (전력제어 직접변환수신 6단자 소자 설계 및 제작)

  • The power-controlled six-port element that can control the local oscillator signal power and receiving RF signal power was designed and implemented in this paper. The direct conversion six-port element configuration was proposed, which provides the constant six-port output power by controlling the six-port input power with various signal strength. The direct conversion six-port element protects the power detector element of six-port receiver from the saturation status and compensates the transmission performance degradation. For implementation of power-controlled six-port element, the power-controlled six-port element including the power controller was analyzed. The implemented power-controlled six-port element shows the power control capability of 36 dB and gain imbalance of about 1.6 dB, phase imbalance of about $4^{\circ}$ in the frequency range of 1.69 GHz. The measured results show the good performance as direct conversion front-end element.

  • In this paper, we proposed a trellis coded Multi-Carrier CDMA 16 QAM system with multiple transmit/receive antenna diversity technique, which is simple and suitable for indoor wireless communications. The proposed multiple transmit/receive antenna diversity technique is that the transmitter sends a trellis coded Multi-Carrier CDMA 16 QAM signal from multiple transmitting antennas with intentional time delays, which makes a receiver possible to distinguish and combine the signals from different antennas. In wireless indoor communication system, if we allow the increase of the complexity of the system, it is also possible to achieve additional diversity gain in the performance with the combination of the proposed technique and the conventional receiving antenna diversity. Furthermore, we have found that the proposed trellis coded Multi-Carrier CDMA 16 QAM system, which employs multiple transmit/receive antenna, is less sensitive to the multiple user interference and fading than conventional receiving antenna diversity systems.

A Design of Dual-band Microstrip Patch Antenna in Multilayered Planner Structures for IMT-2000 systems (IMT-2000 주파수대역에서 이중공진 적층구조 마이크로스트립 패치 안테나의 설계 및 제작)

  • 본 논문에서는 차세대 이동통신인 IMT-2000 (하향: 1.885GHz∼2.025GHz) 주파수대역에서 동작하는 정사각형 적층구조 마이크로스트립 안테나를 설계 및 제작 측정하였다. 송/수신 주파수대역이 서로 상이한 IMT-2000 주파수대역에서 동작하도록 하기 위해 시뮬레이터를 사용하여 이중공진 안테나를 설계하였으며 최적화된 파라미터를 가지고 실제 제작 및 측정하였다. 측정된 결과는 다음과 같다. 공진주파수는 1.8475GHz, 2.2GHz에서 각각 나타났으며 대역폭은 각각 10.2%와 7.8%에 이르는 결과를 얻었다. 그리고 반사계수는 -18dB, -27dB로 나타났다. 이득은 시뮬레이터를 이용한 결과를 보면 8dB∼10dB의 높은 이득을 얻을 수 있음을 알 수가 있다.

60 GHz broad-band transceiver for wireless LAN (60 GHz 무선랜용 광대역 송ㆍ수신기)

  • In this paper, 60GHz band transmitter and receiver for wireless LAN are designed and implemented using the broband amplifier and mixer fabricated by standard 0.1${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ MIMIC process of MINT. Output power and gain of the RF transmitter are 0 ㏈m and 1.7㏈, respectively. Noise figure and gain of the receiver are 4.2㏈ and l5.7dB, respectively. Considering the sensitivity and LOS test, this system can communicate with BER of below than 10$^{-6}$ at a distance more than 35m. DSSS, which is strong for concealment and disturbance, is adopted.

  • 본 논문에서는 X-band 절전센서용 마이크로스트립 구형패치 배열 안테나의 설계 방법을 제안 하고자 한다. 제안된 배열 안테나는 송 수신 안테나가 각각 1x2배열로 구성 되었다. 안테나는 CST MWS를 사용하여 시뮬레이션 하였고 FR-4 기판(h=1.0mm, ${\varepsilon}_r$=4.4)을 사용하여 제작하였다. 시뮬레이션 결과는 대역폭이 4%(VSWR${\leq}$2), 이득은 6.3dBi, 빔폭은 약 $60^{\circ}$(El)/$15^{\circ}$(Az)로 예측되었다. 안테나는 시뮬레이션 결과를 바탕으로 제작 되었고 절전센서용 RF 송수신기 회로 뒷면에 설치되어 무반사실에서 방사 특성을 측정하였다. 측정된 결과는 대역폭이 7%(VSWR${\leq}$2), 이득은 4.8dBi, 빔폭은 약 $55^{\circ}$(El)/$15^{\circ}$(Az)로 시뮬레이션 결과와 매우 유사한 결과를 얻었다.

  • This paper describes the design, the manufacture and the development of th eautomatic gain control unit which ajdusts the gain of IF processor in the high sensitive & multifunctional receiver unit (HMR) for pulse doppler radar system. Accodording to the effective distnce of target, radar cross section, and a lot of external environments (such as clutter), the receiving stage of RADAR system often deviates from dynamic range. To solve this kind o fproblem, continuous/pulse wave AGC are realized, make it possible to control the gain characteristics of receiver stably, and can increase dynamic range linearly by adjusting the gain slope of receiver which is limited by 1-dB gain compression point. In this study, AGC unit is designed to regulate the total gain of receiver by using te analog feedback theory. It also has rapid enough response to process pulse signal. This study presents the gain control method of IF, the real manufacture technique (the package-type components) and the measurement performance of AGC.
