  • 마하 수 6 이상인 극초음속 비행에는 스크램제트(SCRamjet : Supersonic Combustion Ramjet) 엔진이 가장 적합한 엔진으로 알려져 있고 현재 미국을 중심으로 이 엔진의 개발에 많은 노력을 기울이고 있다. 스크램제트 엔진의 성공적인 개발을 위해서는 초음속 공기 내에서 연료의 분사를 통한 가장 효율적인 연소를 유도할 수 있어야 한다. 초음속 상태의 공기와 연료의 혼합을 증대시키고 연소안정성을 향상시키는 방법으로 연소기 내에 인위적으로 경사충격파를 발생시키는 방안이 Marble 등에 의해 최초로 도입되었다. 본 연구에서는 스크램제트엔진 내의 연소기를 모델링하여 마하수 2.5의 초음속공기 유동 중앙에 수소 제트를 분사하여 초음속 수소-공기 화염을 만들고 연소기의 측면에 동일한 모양과 크기의 쐐기를 각각 부착시켜 평면 경사충격파를 발생시켰다 본 실험은 충격파가 초음속 화염에 미치는 영향을 연구한 최초의 실험연구이다.

  • An experimental study of the combustion characteristics according to the equivalence ratio of hydrocarbon fuel/air premixture excited by ultrasonic standing wave are presented. The image of the propagating flame was acquired using a high-speed camera, and the combustion characteristics of each fuel were closely observed through image processing. it was conformed that ultrasonic standing wave has been found to stimulate the combustion reaction in the stoichiometric ratio.

  • 안정화 화염으로 수소 확산 화염을 이용한 메탄/공기 난류 예혼합 화염의 미연가스 영역의 난류 특성을 측정하였다. 측정은 동일한 위치에 대해서 화염이 존재할 때와 존재하지 않을 때에 대해 수행되었다. 버너 출구 레이놀즈 수 7000에서 당량비 0.6과 1.0의 경우에 대해 실험이 수행되었다. 난류 유동장은 2색 레이저 유속계에 의해 측정되었다. 21개의 위치에 대해서 반복적으로 측정이 수행되었다.

  • In this study, we performed a numerical study of hydrogen/air combustion in the combustion chamber of an ultra micro gas turbine. The supply flow rate and equivalence ratio are used as variables, and the commercial computational fluid dynamic program (STAR-CCM) is used for the numerical study of the combustion. The flow rate significantly affects the flame position, flame temperature, and pressure ratio between the inlet and the outlet. The flame position is close to the outlet in the combustion chamber, and the flame temperature and pressure ratio monotonously increases with the supply flow rate. The change in the equivalence ratio does not affect the flame position. The maximum flame temperature occurs under stoichiometric conditions.

  • The purpose of this study is to clarify the influence of inert gas on the configuration characteristics of premixed turbulent propagating flames of hydrogen mixtures. Inert gas is changed to $N_2$, Ar, $CO_2$ and He keeping the laminar burning velocity of mixtures nearly the same value. A laser tomography technique was used to obtain the flame shape, and quantitative analyses were performed. The result shows that in the wrinkled laminar flame region, the surface area of turbulent flame is slightly dependent on the equivalence ratio and the kind of inert gas. It is also shown the region of convex part of flame toward the unburned gas is greater than that of toward the burned gas regardless of the kind of inert gas.

Laminar Burning Velocity Measurement of SNG/Air Flames - A Comparison of Bunsen and Spherical Flame Method - (SNG/공기 화염의 층류 연소속도 측정 - 분젠과 구형 화염법 비교 -)

  • This article describes a comparison on laminar burning velocity measured by Bunsen and spherical flame methods of synthetic natural gas (SNG) with various composition of hydrogen. In this study, the laminar burning velocity measurements were employed by Bunsen burner and cylindrical constant combustor at which flame images were captured by Schlieren system. These results were also compared with numerical based on CHEMKIN package with GRI 3.0, USC-II and UC Sandiego mechanism. In case of spherical flames, the suitable flame radius range and theoretical models were verified using the well-known previous results in methane/air flames. As an experimental condition, hydrogen content of SNG was adjusted 0% to 11%. Equivalence ratios of Bunsen flames were adjusted from 0.8 to 1.6. On the other hand, those of spherical flames were adjusted from 0.6 to 1.4, relatively. From results of this study, the both laminar burning velocities measured in Bunsen and spherical flame methods were resulted in similar tendency. As the hydrogen content increased, the laminar burning velocity also increased collectively. Laminar burning velocity of measured SNG-air flames was best coincided with GRI 3.0 mechanism by comparison of reaction mechanisms.

  • This paper presents a numerical investigation on propagation of hydrocarbon (ethylene-air mixture) detonation in a deformable copper tube. In this study, we deal with interactions of multi-materials, gas and solid. In gas phase, the model consists of the reactive compressible Navier-Stokes equations and one step chemical reaction. Also we use Inviscid Euler equations in solid. In order to the interface tracking and the determination of boundary values, our model handle level-set and ghost fluid method. Through the numerical simulation results, we identify generations of expansion waves and interferences by the wall deformation. In addition, we predict the minimum copper tube thickness that ensures safety under an incident detonation.

  • The world is striving to transition to a carbon-neutral society. It is expected that using hydrogen instead of hydrocarbon fuel will contribute to this carbon neutrality. However, there is a need for combustion technology that controls the increased NOx emissions caused by hydrogen co-firing. Flameless combustion is one of the alternative technologies that resolves this problem. In this study, a numerical analysis was performed using the 1D opposed-flow diffusion flame model of Chemkin to analyze the characteristics of flameless combustion and the chemical reaction of methane-hydrogen fuel according to its hydrogen content and flue gas recirculation rate. In methane combustion, as the recirculation rate (Kv) increased, the temperature and heat release rate decreased due to an increase in inert gases. Also, increasing Kv from 2 to 3 achieved flameless combustion in which there was no endothermic region of heat release and the region of maximum heat release rate merged into one. In H2 100% at Kv 3, flameless combustion was achieved in terms of heat release, but it was difficult to determine whether flameless combustion was achieved in terms of flame structure. However, since the NOx formation of hydrogen flameless combustion was predicted to be similar to that of methane flameless combustion, complex considerations of flame structure, heat release, and NOx formation are needed to define hydrogen flameless combustion.

Characteristics of NOx Emission in a Swirl Flow in Nonpremixed Turbulent Hydrogen Jet with Coaxial Air (수소 난류 확산화염에서의 선회류에 의한 배기배출물 특성)

  • The effect of swirl flow on NOx in a nonpremixed turbulent hydrogen jet with coaxial air was studied. The swirl vane angle was varied from $30^{\circ}$ to $90^{\circ}$. The fuel jet air velocity and coaxial air velocity were varied in an attached flame region as $u_F=85{\sim}160m/s$ and $u_A=7{\sim}14m/s$. The objective of the current study was to analyze the characteristics of nitrous oxide emission in a swirl flow and to propose a new parameter for EINOx scaling. The experimental results show that EINOx decreases with the swirl vane angle and increased with flame length. Further, EINOx scaling factors can be determined by considering the effective diameter ($d_{F,eff}$) in a far field concept. The EINOx increased in proportion to the flame residence time (${\sim}{\tau_R}^{1/2.8}$) and the global strain rate (${\sim}{S_G}^{1/2.8}$).

Behavior of the Ultrasonically-atomized Liquid-fuel Flame Injected through a Slit-jet Nozzle (Slit-jet 노즐을 통해 분사되는 초음파 무화 액체연료 화염의 거동)

  • An experimental study was performed for the behavior of the burner flame which results from burning of the liquid hydrocarbon fuel atomized by an ultrasonic transducer. Configurations of the flame and combustion-field were caught by both high-speed camera and thermo-graphic camera, and those images were analyzed in detail through a image post-processing. As a result, the combustion-field grew and reaction-temperature rose due to the strengthening of combustion reaction with the increasing flow-rate of carrier-gas. In addition, a phenomenon of flame flickering was discussed through the comparative analysis of the variational behavior between the visible flame and IR (Infrared) flame-field. Also, the flickering frequency of the flame was confirmed through FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) analysis employing the flame area.
