The study on the nitrogen adsorption, surface properties and water adsorption capacity of the carbonaceous desiccants derived from phenolic resin was carried out. In the nitrogen adsorption study on the carbonaceous desiccants, Type II isotherm for each sample was obtained. Furthermore, the adsorbed volume decrease with water washing of the desiccant. The $S_{BET}$ of the carbonaceous desiccants was $648.7m^2/g$ before washing and $189.3m^2/g$ after washing, respectively. The morphology of needlelike formation before washing and spherical particle after washing with water were observed from SEM micrographs. Finally, from the water adsorption effects, the percentage of the water loading capacity was 25-63%, and the capacity was good at relatively low humidity.
The adsorption characteristics of coffee were mvestigated at $5, 15, 25, and 35^{\circ}C$ under various water activities such as 11, 32, 57, 75 and 90% and prediction models were developed by optimization program. The moisture adsorption isotherm curves were similar to the typical sigmoid type. The values of equilibrium moisture content and the monolayer moisture content were highest in the Freeze Dried, which was due to porous structure by the drying method. In the result of adjusting the isotherm models in this paper, Halsey model generally gave the best fit for isotherms of coffee. Prediction model for equilibrium moisture content was established with water activity and temperature. Adsorption prediction models were also developed with water activity, with water activity and time, and with water activity, time and temperature, respectively.
This study was conducted to estimate peeling and vapor adsorption properties made with fabric glass fiber reinforced laminated timber according to our earlier report(Jung et al., 2002). In adsorption peeling test, three all types solid wood were not appeared the peeling. However, solid wood appeared to the peeling in boiling peeling test except for control wood. Vapor adsorption test was performed at 40℃, 90% relative humidity for 48 hours. Cross sections were not different all solid wood. Radial section and tangential section with glass fiber were delayed vapor adsorption compared to control wood. In anisotropy of vapor adsorption, solid wood with glass fiber were small values.

Surface morphology and adsorption characteristics of charcoals prepared from Korean traditional kiln were analyzed, and their moisture adsorption capacities were examined with respect to humidity and temperature change. Moisture adsorption capacities of red-clay powder, activated carbon fiber fabric (ACF fabric) and activated carbon fiber paper(ACF paper) were also examined to compare with those of charcoals. Moisture adsorption capacity of charcoal was low less than 45% humidity due to its hydrophobic property, but it slowly and linearly increased as increasing the humidity. Moisture adsorption capacity of red-clay powder was similar to charcoal at low level humidity, it increased exponentially as increasing the humidity showing Type V adsorption isotherm. Therefore, the weather forecast annal prepared by employee of weather centre in Joseon Dynasty is experimentally approved. ACF fabric and ACF paper show excellent moisture adsorption capacities, which can be used to humidity measuring sensor. Adsorption isotherm of charcoal slice was peculear showing the mixed Type I and Type IV due to low-pressure hysteresis that was occurred from embedment of nitrogen in crevice of charcoal. The specific surface area of charcoal increased by grinding charcoal slice to powder, resulted in increasing the desorption amount of adsorbent at low relative pressure.

Purpose: This study examined the water sorption of commonly used dual-cure resin cements and compared the change in the micro-hardness among the cements. Materials and Methods: Five types of dual-cure resin cements (Maxcem, Duo-link, Panavia F, Variolink II, Rely X Unicem) were selected. Fifty specimens were classified into five groups containing ten specimens in each group. The water sorption of the five specimens in each group was evaluated after being immersed in distilled water (DDW) for seven days. The following results were obtained by comparing the specimens immersed in DDW with those not immersed in DDW. Results: 1. The water sorption of Maxcem showed the highest score, followed by Panavia F. These two cements were followed by Duo-link and Rely X Unicem. The water sorption of Variolink II showed the lowest score among the cements used in this study. 2. Among the specimens not immersed in DDW, the micro-hardness of Rely X Unicem showed the highest score followed by Panavia F and Variolink II. These cements were followed in order by Duo-link and Maxcem. 3. Among the specimens immersed in DDW, the microhardness of Rely X Unicem showed the highest score followed by Maxcem, Panavia F and Variolink II. Duo-link shoed the lowest score among the cements used in this study. 4. Maxcem, Duo-link, Panavia F and Rely X Unicem showed significant differences in micro-hardness due to water resorption but Variolink II was unaffected by immersion in water. Conclusion: Using the resin cement which has lower water sorption and higher micro-hardness is recommended.

Heats of moisture adsorption of the sunflower nutmeat products (ground nutmeat, meal, protein concentrate and protein isolate) were determined from their isosteres at temperatures 10, 20 and $30^{\circ}C$. The changes in the heat of adsorption with moisture level were analyzed by Hunter equation. The Hunter equation was valid for representing the relationship between the heat of adsorption and the moisture content for the sunflower nutmeat products, and the accuracy-of-fit increased as protein content of the materials increased. The heat of adsorption decreased as moisture content increased, but increased as protein content increased. The heats of adsorption were 11.8-10.6 kcal/mole for the ground nutmeat at 4-12% moisture (d.b.) and 12.4-11.0 kcal/mole for the protein isolate at 6-20% moisture (d.b.).

The adsorbent used in water-adsorption cooling system utilizing low-temperature heat of below $90^{\circ}C$ is required to exhibit high water uptake capacity at a relative humidity ($P/P_0$) between 0.1 and 0.3. Mesoporous silica (MCM-41) and MOF(MIL-101) exhibit quite large water adsorption capacity under saturated water vapor at $35^{\circ}C$. However, these adsorbents show small water adsorption capacity ($0.027{g_{water}\;g_{ads}}^{-1}$, $0.074{g_{water}\;g_{ads}}^{-1}$, respectively) in the relative humidity ($P/P_0$) range of 0.1 to 0.3. In this study, the surface properties of mesoporous silica and MOF were modified by simple methods to develop an adsorbent having a higher water uptake than the conventional water adsorbents at a relative humidity ($P/P_0$) of 0.1 ~ 0.3. In the case of mesoporous silica (MCM-41) exhibiting mainly water adsorption at $P/P_0=0.5{\sim}0.7$, aluminum species was functionalized on the mesopore walls and then cations existing near the aluminum were exchanged with various cations (e.g., $Na^+$, ${NH_4}^+$, and $(C_2H_5)_4N^+$). In addition, 20 wt% (to total weight of the composites) of hygroscopic inorganic salt ($CaCl_2$) was impregnated on the MCM-41. In the case of the MIL-101 (MOF), 20 wt% of hygroscopic inorganic salt ($CaCl_2$) was impregnated on the MIL-101. The MCM-41 which was ion-exchanged with various cations has main adsorption branch around 0.5 of $P/P_0$ which was slightly shifted with low-pressure direction in comparison with pristine MCM-41. However, tiny increases were observed on the adsorption in the range of $P/P_0$ between 0.1 and 0.3. After salt impregnation on the MCM-41, the adsorption capacity under $P/P_0=0.1{\sim}0.3$ at $35^{\circ}C$ was increased from $0.027{g_{water}\;g_{ads}}^{-1}$ to $0.152{g_{water}\;g_{ads}}^{-1}$. In the case of MIL-101, the amount of water adsorption at $35^{\circ}C$ under $P/P_0=0.1{\sim}0.3$ was increased from $0.074{g_{water}\;g_{ads}}^{-1}$ to $0.330{g_{water}\;g_{ads}}^{-1}$ after the salt impregnation.
