Mean viscous drift forces on a fixed vertical cylinder in waves and currents (파랑과 조류에 의한 고정된 수직 실린더 구조물에 작용하는 평균 점성 표류력)

  • In offshore structures, the mean viscous drift force due to drag is considered to be a design part that has not been considered until recently. In particular, it is most important to calculate the drift force acting on a vertical cylinder considering both waves and currents in the low frequency region. This paper presents a process for deriving analytical solutions for the drift forces acting on a fixed vertical cylinder considering waves and currents. The area of the cylinder was considered by dividing it into a splash zone above the free surface and a submerged zone below the free surface. The presence of waves is considered only in the Splash Zone, and in the case of waves and currents, the equations were obtained for both the splash and submerged zones. The results show that drift forces occur due to the significant viscous effects in both the splash zone and the submerged zone. Therefore, the analytical solutions derived in this study can be used to calculate the drift force using the given design variables and form a theoretical basis for judging whether the magnitude of the drift force in each case has a dominant influence within a specific physical range.

  • In offshore floating structures, the viscous mean drift force due to drag is considered a design part that has not been considered until recently. In this paper, an analytical solution for the viscous mean drift forces on a floating vertical cylinder considering the waves and currents was obtained. The area was considered by dividing it into a splash zone above the free surface and a submerged zone below the free surface. In the case of waves, only the splash zone was considered; in the case of waves and currents, equations were obtained in both the splash zone and the submerged zone. The RAO results of previous studies were used to compare the calculated results with the drift forces acting on the fixed cylinder. Except for the case in only waves in the splash zone, the viscous mean drift force acting on the floating cylinder was larger than the drift force acting on the relatively fixed cylinder in most frequencies. In particular, the increase was greater when the currents were considered to be more important. Therefore, these results provide the inference for the viscous drift force due to drag in the design of floating offshore structures.

Refractive Power Changes after Removal of Contact Lenses (콘택트렌즈를 임시 제거한 상태에서의 착용 조건에 따른 굴절력 변화)

  • Purpose: To evaluate the changes of refractive power when worn soft contact lenses were temporarily removed. Methods: 91 soft contact lens wearers (15 males and 76 females; total 182 eyes) from 17 to 39 years of age (average: $24{\pm}4.8$ years) were participated. Objective and subjective refraction, and corneal radius were measured at 0, 30, 60 and 90 min after lens removal. The changes in refractive power were evaluated between measurements over time. The other parameters such as types of lenses, fitting and wearing conditions were also assessed. Results: Objective refraction, subjective refraction and corneal radius were significantly changed according to measured time (p<0.0001). A moderate myopic shifts was observed at the beginning (30 min after lens removal) and a slight myopic shift at the late of measurement (60 min to 90 min after lens removal). There are no significant differences between lens types, fitting states, wearing time, wearing days and sleeping time in the previous day. However, there was significant interaction in changes for corneal radius between measuring time and lens type (p=0.017), fitting state (p=0.019), and sleeping time prior to the test (p=0.010). Conclusions: Time to reach refractive and corneal radius stability after contact lens removal revealed at least more than 60 min, regardless of types of lenses, fitting and wearing conditions. Therefore, refraction for correction should be performed after waiting for more than that time as possible.

Diagnosis and Effect of Maxillary Expansion in Pediatric Sleep-Disordered Breathing (소아 수면호흡장애의 진단과 상악확장술의 치료효과)

  • The aim of this study was to analyze the changes and improvements in symptoms of sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) using semi-rapid maxillary expansion (SRME) in children with narrow maxilla and SDB symptoms. Subjects were 15 patients with sleep disorder (apnea-hypopnea index, AHI ≥ 1) and narrow maxillary arch between 7 and 9 years of age. Before the SRME was applied, all subjects underwent pediatric sleep questionnaires (PSQ), lateral cephalometry, and portable sleep monitoring before expansion (T0). All subjects were treated with SRME for 2 months, followed by maintenance for the next 3 months. All subjects had undergone PSQ, lateral cephalometry, and portable sleep monitoring after expansion (T1). Adenoidal-nasopharyngeal ratio (ANR), upper airway width and hyoid bone position were measured by lateral cephalometry. The data before and after SRME were statistically analyzed with frequency analysis and Wilcoxon signed rank test. As reported by PSQ, the total PSQ scale was declined significantly from 0.45 (T0) to 0.18 (T1) (p = 0.001). Particularly, snoring, breathing, and inattention hyperactivity were significantly improved (p = 0.001). ANR significantly decreased from 0.63 (T0) to 0.51 (T1) (p = 0.003). After maxillary expansion, only palatopharyngeal airway width was significantly increased (p = 0.035). There was no statistically significant difference in position of hyoid bone after expansion (p = 0.333). From analysis of portable sleep monitoring, changes in sleep characteristics showed a statistically significant decrease in AHI and ODI, and the lowest oxygen desaturation was significantly increased after SRME (p = 0.001, 0.004, 0.023). In conclusion, early diagnosis with questionnaires and portable sleep monitoring is important. Treatment using SRME will improve breathing of children with SDB.

Association Between Chronotype, Sleep Quality and Resilience as Well as Anxiety Among Medical Students (의과대학 학생들의 일주기 유형과 수면의 질 및 회복탄력성과 불안 증상의 관련성)

  • Objectives: Our study aimed to investigate the relationship between the anxiety at first year and chronotype and sleep quality at third year in medical students. We also investigated the association between sleep quality, chronotype, depression and resilience at third year. Methods: Fifty two medical students (36 males, 69%, aged 21 ± 0.93) in first year, and forty four medical students (31 males, 70.5%, aged 23.05 ± 0.99) at third year answered Beck Depression Inventory 2, Beck anxiety inventory, Insomnia severity index-K, Composite scale of morningness and Conner-Davidson Resilience scale-10. Multiple linear regression analysises were performed to identify predictors of chronotype, sleep quality and resilience. Results: Higher anxiety (β = -0.434, p = 0.006) at first year was significant predictor of eveningness at third year, while lower anxiety score (β = 0.606, p < 0.001) at first year was significant predictor of sleep quality at third year. Lower sleep quality (β = -0.314, p = 0.042) and eveningness (β = 0.315, p = 0.041) were associated with low resilience at third year. Also, Lesser depression (β = -0.717, p < 0.001) was associated with higher resilience at third year. Conclusion: Our study showed that higher anxiety in first year had significantly related with eveningness and poor sleep quality at third year. In addition, higher sleep quality, morningness and less depression had significantly associated with better resilience at third year.

  • 연안해역에서의 흐름은 조석에 의한 주기적인 해수면의 승강작용에 의한 조류, 바람에 의해 발생되는 수면 마찰력에 의한 풍성류(wind-driven flow), 밀도가 다른 하천수 등의 유입에 의한 밀도류 등에 의하여 발생한다. 대부분의 자연수괴에서의 실제 흐름은 이러한 흐름들이 단독으로 발생하는 것이 아니라 동시에 발생하는 복합류(combined flow)이다 따라서, 연안해역에서의 오염물질의 이동ㆍ확산은 이러한 복합류에 의하여 발생하므로 복합류의 구조에 대한 정확한 이해, 평가 및 예측은 연안수의 순환 및 오염물질의 확산에 관한 자연현상을 정확히 이해하는데 있어서 반드시 필요하다. A Study on the Anchoring Safety Assessment of E-Group Anchorage in Ulsan Port (울산항 E 집단정박지 묘박안전성 평가에 관한 연구)

  • This study suggests the minimum critical external forces based on the assessment of anchoring safety to single anchor situation for representative 8 number of ships in E-group anchorage of Ulsan port. Assessment of anchoring safety is compared holding powers of anchor with external forces of wind, wave and current. Holding powers was reflected materials of seabed, equipment numbers regarding anchor and chain weight, also external forces acting on a hull was calculated considering projected wind area and wetted surface area to the full and ballast conditions respectively. The results of anchoring safety assessments to single anchor showed that the minimum criteria of dragging anchor is a little different from ship's type, size and loading conditions. Bulk carrier can be dragged over the 15m/s of winds and Tanker can be dragged over the 13m/s of winds in case of less than 2knots of currents speed.

  • 부레옥잠은 대량 재배 및 수확이 가능한 수질정화용 식물로 생활하수, 축산폐수, 공장폐수 등의 수질정화 기능이 뛰어나고, 수확물은 건조 및 발효과정을 거쳐 가축 사료, 유기질 비료, 버섯 배지로 사용이 가능하고, 별도의 공업적 처리를 거치면 고부가가치의 바이오 연료, 연소용 연료로 사용이 가능한 친환경 농업 생산물로 본 연구에서는 부레옥잠의 고형연료 제조를 위한 수면에서 수확장치 개발을 위한 견인 특성을 파악하고 장치개발 가능성을 파악하고자 하였다. 부력구조물 부력, 부레옥잠 견인력, 부력을 측정하기 위한 실험 장치를 제작하여 부레옥잠 중량, 견인방식, 견인속도에 따른 견인력을 측정하였고, 경남 거제시에 위치한 저수지에서 실제 견인실험을 수행하였다. 실험결과 견인중량 및 견인 속도가 증가할수록 견인력은 증가하였으며 인력으로 부레옥잠을 견인하는 경우 부레옥잠 중량당 견인력은 약 $0.9{\sim}1.39kg_f$로 나타났으며 이는 향 후 부레옥잠 견인장치를 설계할 경우 부레옥잠 견인중량에 따른 견인력 산정 시 참고 자료로 매우 유용하게 활용 가능할 것으로 판단되었다. 저수지에서 견인실험 결과 견인속도 증가에 따른 유속저항으로 경운기에 의한 견인작업은 불가능하였으며 인력에 위한 견인 실험결과 부레옥잠 단위중량당 견인력은 견인바 3 m의 경우 1.5 ~ 2.6 N/kg, 견인바 6 m의 경우 2.1 ~ 5.4 N/kg로 비교적 크기로 나타났으나, 견인용 바에 따른 요인을 고려한 경우는 0.36 ~ 0.91 N/(kg-m)로 비교적 일정한 값을 보였다. 견인용 바 6 m, 무부하에서 인력과 경운기로 견인하는 경우 견인력은 39.24 N, 153.03 N으로 인력으로 견인하는 경우가 견인력이 작게 측정되었음. 이는 속도증가에 따라 물의 저항력이 증가함으로 나타난 결과로 부레옥잠 견인 시 견인속도는 0.36 m/s가 가장 적합한 것으로 판단되었다.

Changes of EEG Coherence in Narcolepsy Measured with Computerized EEG Mapping Technique (기면병에서 전산화 뇌파 지도화 기법으로 측정한 뇌파 동시성 시성 변화)

  • Objectives: In narcoleptic patients diagnosed with ICSD (international classification of sleep disorders, 1990) criteria, nocturnal polysomnography, and MSLT (multiple sleep latency test), we tried to find characteristic features of quantitative electroencephalography (QEEG) in a wakeful state. Methods: We compared eight drug-free narcoleptic patients with sex- and age-matched normal controls, using computerized electroencephalographic mapping technique and spectral analysis. Absolute power, relative power, interhemispheric asymmetry, interhemispheric and intrahemispheric coherence, and mean frequency in each frequency band (delta, theta, alpha and beta) were measured and analyzed. Results: Compared with normal controls, narcoleptic patients showed decrease in monopolar interhemispheric coherence of alpha frequency bands in occipital ($O_1/O_2$), parietal ($P_3/P_4$), and temporal ($T_5/T_6$) areas and beta frequency band in the occipital ($O_1/O_2$) area. Monopolar intrahemispheric coherences of alpha frequency bands in left hemispheric areas ($T_3/T_5$, $C_3/P_3$ & $F_3/O_1$) decreased. Decrease of monopolar interhemispheric asymmetry of delta frequency band in the occipital ($O_1/O_2$) area was also noted. The monopolar absolute powers of beta frequency bands decreased in occipital ($O_2,\;O_z$) areas. Conclusion: Decreases in coherences of narcoleptic patients compared with normal controls may indicate fewer posterior neocortical interhemispheric neuronal connections, and fewer left intrahemispheric neuronal connections than normal controls in a wakeful state. Therefore, we suggest that abnormal neurophysiological sites of narcolepsy may involve complex areas such as neocortex and subcortex as well as the brainstem.
