In general, manual wheelchairs have played important roles in moving patients from one place to another. However, patients have experienced discomfort getting on and off because of the need for physical assistance. This can be more serious if a patient has handicaps involving the arms or legs. In addition, it could be unpleasant for both the patient and assistant because of the need for extensive physical contact with each other. At times, a weak nurse feels that there is a risk when transferring a heavy patient from a bed to a wheelchair. In this paper, a new non-powered wheelchair is designed to assist in transferring a patient to their bed. This design considers the convenience of both the patient and assistant when the patient is transferred from a wheelchair to a bed and vice versa. The operation minimizes the physical contact between the assistant and the patient. The new wheelchair is also lightweight and portable compared with the normal popular wheelchair.
Several kinds of thermophilic, aerobic microorganisms (Bacillus genus), metal leaching microorganisms (Thiobacillus, T. ferooxidans), and other nondegradable chemical-degrading microorganisms (Pseudomonas genus) were utilized to study the effect on composting livestock manure. Under the Carbon-Nitrogen ratio (C/N) of 35∼40 and water content of 50∼65% conditions, the composting in the cycling drum reactor showed slower composting and lower temperature increase than that of the manual reactor. Element analysis after composting indicated relatively high levels of mineral contents with the substitutional effect of chemical fertilizer. Metal analysis before and after composting showed lower As in all, Cr in pig, Pb in cow, Hg in chicken, and Cu in cow manure compost than the regulation values. Compost maturity was ascertained by the several maturity tests. Salmonella and E. cozi detection test by SS or EMB agar plate confirmed the safety from the pathogenic microorganisms. The results suggest that the inoculation of metal and some other chemical degrading microorganisms during composting might decrease metal contamination and increase composting rate.

Workers in industrial fields are highly exposed to accidents or injuries caused by long working hours. An exoskeleton that is able to support the arm muscles of the worker and thereby reduce the probability of an accident and enhance working efficiency could be a solution to this problem. However, existing exoskeletons demand the use of high-priced sensors and motors, which makes them difficult to use in industrial fields. To solve this problem, we developed an arm assisting exoskeleton that consists only of mechanical components without any electronic sensors or motors. The exoskeleton follows the movement of the human arm by shoulder joint and ankle joint. In addition, counterbalance mechanisms are installed on the exoskeleton to support arm strength. The experimental validation of the exoskeleton was conducted using an EMG sensor, confirming the performance of the exoskeleton.

Practical devices for measuring personal exposure to nitrogen dioxide(NO$_2$) have been made for epidemiological studies of the health effects of air pollution Standard methods for NO$_2$ measurement such as the chemiluminescent method and Saltzman method are not suitable for personal exposure because they are heavy, large and complicated to operate. In this study, a passive monitor was tested for the measurements of indoor and outdoor NO$_2$ level. Through a comparative analysis of data sets obtained by on-site chemiluminescence system, we assessed the accuracy and precision of NO$_2$ passive monitors. We also examined the possibility of passive monitor in the study of indoor, outdoor and personal NO$_2$ exposure. The accuracy and precision of NO$_2$ passive monitor were analyzed assuming measurements of on-site chemiluminescence system is reference value and using duplicated measure- ments, respectively. From these analysis the NO$_2$ passive monitor was useful for measuring indoor, outdoor and personal exposure. And NO$_2$ level from on-site chemiluminescence systems could not properly represent the personal NO$_2$ exposure as well as indoor and outdoor level of ones house. Personal exposures were correlated more strongly with indoor NO$_2$ concentrations than with outdoor NO$_2$ concentrations. Since activity pattern of each person is different, it was considered that personal daily behavior and life-style might prevent the air pollutant exposure.

This paper is concerned with the relationships between optimal number of wavelengths and tuning time in time division multiplexing(TDM) scheduling on wavelength division multiplexing(WDM) optical passive star networks. We assume that the traffic is nonuniform and each node has a tunable transmitter and a fixed receiver. Each node transmits spckets to all other nodes. Most of the earlier protocols on TDM based scheduling for WDM star networks [7, 8, etc.] use whold given wavelength chnnels. But in this paper, we investigate the optimal number of wavelengths that yidels minimum frame length when tuning time exists. It appears within the availble number of wavelengths that yields minimum frame length when tuning time exists. It appears within the available number of wavelengths. We analyze the relationships between optimal number of wavelengths and tuning time by experiments. We analyze the reationships between optimal number of wavelengths and tuning time by experiments. We also discuss on the possibility of reduction of frame length by increasing the number of nodes trans-mitters and receivers.
This paper represents generation of time-varying underwater acoustic channels by performing scattering simulation with time-varying ocean surface and Kirchhoff approximation. In order to estimate the time-varying ocean surface, 1D Pierson-Moskowitz ocean power spectrum and Gaussian correlation function were used. The computed scattering coefficients are applied to the amplitudes of each impulse of BELLHOP simulation result. The scattering coefficients are then compared with measured doppler spectral density of signal components which were scattered from ocean surface and the correlation time used in the Gaussian correlation function was estimated by the comparison. Finally, bit-error-rate and channel correlation simulations were performed with the generated time-varying channel based on passive time-reversal communication scenario.
The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of various techniques on the quality and quantity of instrumentation in curved canals. Instrumentation time was evaluated too. Forty eight canals of resin blocks($35^{\circ}$) were divided into three groups and filed. In group A, 16 blocks were instrumented using a step-back technique with stainless steel(SS) K-file(Mani, Matsutani Seisakusho Co.,Japan). In group B, canals were prepared with SS K-files using the Endo-Angle (Nakanishi Dental MFG.CO.,LTD.,Japan). Group C was prepared using N i-Ti engine-driven instruments (Quantec Series $2000^{TM}$ system). Group A and B were filed from # 5 to # 25 at the apex followed by a 1 mm stepback technique, and the coronal half of the canals were flared with Gates Glidden burs(#2,3,4). Group C was instrumented from # 1 to # 8. After the instrumentation time was measured, canals were filled with India ink, and photographed, which to magnify the canal images 8 times. Using these photographs the apical portions were evaluated And scored from 1 to 4 according to the severity of ledging and zipping. On the same photographs, the area of the coronal two thirds of the canals were measured using a personal computer with the computer program Brain and Digitizer (SummaSketch III). The following results were obtained. 1. Instrumentation time was significantly shorter for group C, as opposed to group A and B(ANOVA, P<0.05). 2. The qualitative evaluation of the apical portions of the canals showed no significant difference between the groups(Kruscal-Wallis, p>0.05). 3. The area removed by group C was significantly smaller than group A and B(ANOVA, P<0.05).

The cost/benefit analysis method is frequently used in the feasibility study of investments on geo-spatial information system. The cost/benefit analysis method has been applied extensively in the feasibility study of conventional information systems and recently efforts has been made to apply this method to geo-spatial information systems as well. This study efforts were made to present a cost/benefit model suitable for Korean GSIS and this model was then applied to Facility Management. In establishment of the cost model, the items of various costs were defined and a survey was made to find the average unit cost of each item. For the benefit model, the benefits of implementing a geo-spatial information system is classified into tangible and intangible benefits and only th tangible benefits were further classified. The established cost/benefit model was then applied to a gas distribution company with more than 100 employees and more than 300,000 customers. A GSIS was designed and the cost its implementation was compared to the present manual method of operation.
Passive samplers have been used for many years for the sampling of organic vapors in work environment atmospheres. Currently, all passive samplers used in domestic occupational monitoring are foreign products. This study was performed to evaluate variable parameters for the development of passive organic samplers, which include the geometry of the device and diffusive length for the sampler design. Four prototype diffusive lengths; A-1(4.5 mm), A-2(7.0 mm), A-3(9.5 mm), A-4(12.0 mm) were tested for adsorption performances to a chemical mixture (benzene, toluene, trichloroethylene, and n-hexane) according to the US-OSHA's evaluation protocol. A dynamic vapor exposure chamber developed and verified by related research was used for this study. The results of study are as follows. The results in terms of sampling rate and recommended sampling time test indicate that the most suitable model was A-3 (9.5 mm diffusive lengths on both sides) for passive sampler design in time weighted average (TWA) assessment. Sampling rates of this A-3 model were 45.8, 41.5, 41.4, and 40.3 ml/min for benzene, toluene, trichloroethylene, and n-hexane, respectively. The A-3 models were tested on reverse diffusion and conditions of low humidity air (35% RH) and low concentrations (0.2 times of TLV). These conditions had no affect on the diffusion capacity of samplers. In conclusion, the most suitable design parameters of passive sampler are: 1) Geometry and structure - 25 mm diameter and 490 $mm^2$ cross sectional area of diffusion face with cylindrical form of two-sided opposite diffusion direction; 2) Diffusive length - 9.5 mm in both faces; 3) Amount of adsorbent - 300 mg of coconut shell charcoal; 4) Wind screen - using nylon net filters (11 ${\mu}m$ pore size).
Indoor and outdoor nitrogen dioxide (NO$_2$) concentrations were measured and compared with measurements of personal exposures of 95 persons in Seoul, Korea and 57 persons in Brisbane, Australia, respectively. Time activity diary was used to determine the impact on NO$_2$ exposure assessment and microenvironmental model to estimate the personal NO$_2$ exposure. Most people both Seoul and Brisbane spent their times more than 90% of indoor and more than 50% in home, respectively. Personal NO$_2$ exposures were significantly associated with indoor NO$_2$ levels with Pearson coefficient of 0.70 (p<0.01) and outdoor NO$_2$ levels with Pearson coefficient of 0.66 (p<0.01) in Seoul and of 0.51 (p<0.01) and of 0.33 (p<0.05) in Brisbane, respectively. Using microenvironmental model by time weighted average model, personal NO$_2$ exposures were estimated with NO$_2$ measurements in indoor home, indoor office and outdoor home. Estimated NO$_2$ measurements were significantly correlated with measured personal exposures (r = 0.69, p<0.001) in Seoul and in Brisbane (r = 0.66, p<0.001), respectively. Difference between measured and estimated NO$_2$ exposures by multiple regression analysis was explained that NO$_2$ levels in near workplace and other outdoors in Seoul (p = 0.023), and in transportation in Brisbane (p = 0.019) affected the personal NO$_2$ exposures.
