쇄빙선 및 쇄빙상선에 대한 빙저항 추정식과 실측자료의 비교 분석 (A Comparative Study of Ice Resistance Estimation Equations with Measured Data for Icebreakers and Ice-Strengthened Cargo Vessels)

  • Ice resistance estimation equations based on model tests and full-scale sea trial data from many previous research articles are studied. Measured ice resistance data and its empirical/semi-empirical estimation equations are summarized in common format and are compared with each other, considering three ship categories, i.e, icebreakers, tug/supply vessels, ice-strengthened cargo vessels. The most suitable estimation methods or prediction equations are recommended based on this ice resistance data analysis.

일반 수조에서의 합성 얼음의 밀도변화에 따른 쇄빙선의 저항특성 연구 (Study on Resistance of Icebreaker by Density Variation of Synthetic Ice in General Towing Tank)

  • This paper deals with the experimental works for the correlations of ice resistance for icebreaker with synthetic(model) ice in general towing tank and with refrigerated ice in ice tank. In order to find out the correlation, the density variation is mainly focused in the present study. The model of Terry-Fox ice breaker has been used for the present correlation study because many data are available to be compared. According to the increase of density, the correlation becomes better quantitatively as well as qualitatively. Other parametric studies such as an ice size, a friction coefficient, a bending moment, etc., are also expected to be carried out to have better correlation in a near future. This research could be the basis for the possibility of resistance test using a synthetic ice in a general towing tank instead of an expensive ice tank.

쇄빙선박에 작용하는 빙저항 추정식 고찰 (A Review on Ice Resistance Prediction Formulas for Icebreaking Vessels)

  • In this paper, one of the widely-used ice resistance prediction methods, introduced by Spencer(1992) of the Institute for Ocean Technology, Canada, is reviewed. Spencer's component-based scaling system for ship-ice model tests is analysed to estimate the ice resistance of various types of icebreaking vessels (Canadian MV Arctic, Terry Fox, R-Class icebreaker, US icebreakers Polar Star and Healy, Russian SA-15 cargo ships, Japanese PM Teshio and a model ship). The general form and the non-dimensional coefficients in ice resistance prediction formula are obtained using the published ice model test and full-scale sea trial data. The applicability of Spencer's method on R-Class icebreaker is discussed to estimate ice resistance for the larger icebreaking cargo vessels. Additional parameters to account for the difference in hull forms of icebreakers and cargo vessels are recommended to be included in the Spencer's original ice resistance prediction formula.

  • This paper reports on experimental investigations of self propulsion performance with synthetic (model) ice and refrigerated ice, which were conducted in a typical towing tank and ice tank, respectively. The main purpose of this research was to find the correlation between the selfpropulsion performance with synthetic ice in a typical towing tank and that with refrigerated ice in an ice tank. The different stresses between the synthetic ice and refrigerated ice influenced the self propulsion performance due to different ice and propeller interactions. A further study on the ice property variation for a self propulsion performance comparison is to be conducted in the near future.

합성 얼음을 사용한 쇄빙선 저항시험에 대한 연구 (A Study on Resistance Test of Icebreaker with Synthetic Ice)

  • This research describes a framework to compare and analyze the icebreaker(Terry Fox) resistance in pack ice condition between with a refrigerated ice and a synthetic ice. Model tests with a refrigerated ice have been conducted at Institute for Ocean Technology (IOT/NRC) and the tests with a synthetic ice were conducted at Pusan National University towing tank. For the validation of further tests of measurement and accuracy, the open water tests were first carried out with same model ship to compare the test results of both Institutes. Two different size of the wax-type synthetic ice were used and tests were conducted in pack ice of three different concentration ice conditions. The test results show that the difference of resistance between with synthetic and with refrigerated ice becomes larger according to the increase of ship speed. Although the quantity of resistance difference is not so small in high speed range, the present study is predicted to be used as a useful correlation between synthetic and refrigerated ice.

극지 해양플랜트 현장시험용 해빙의 재료특성 간이 계측장비 개발 (Design of Portable Measuring Devices Used for Field Ice Experiments)

  • 본 논문에서는 극지 빙해역을 운항하는 쇄빙선박이나 해양구조물에 작용하는 해빙의 재료특성을 계측할 수 있는 간이 실험 장비를 제작하였다. 극지 빙해역을 운항하는 쇄빙선박의 빙저항이나 해양구조물에 작용하는 빙하중을 추정하기 위해서 극지 현장에서 실규모의 시험을 수행하게 되는데, 저온과 얼음이라는 악조건을 극복하기 위한 빙역학 기술과 특수 장비가 필요하다. 국내에 한국해양연구원 MOERI 빙해수조가 완공됨에 따라 얼음의 특성을 고려한 모형빙 재료특성 시험용 계측장비가 일부 마련이 되었으나 빙해역 현장 시험에 대한 경험이 전무하며, 계측장비에 대한 지식과 기술 역시 확보되지 못한 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 차후 쇄빙연구선 ARAON호를 이용한 빙해역의 실선계측 시 해빙의 강도를 측정하기 위한 계측시스템 마련의 일환으로 시험편 획득을 위한 코어링 장비와, 해빙의 재료특성 중 1축 압축강도를 측정하기 위한 간이 압축시험기 그리고 얼음의 결정구조를 파악하기 위한 편광기를 제작하였다. 또한 극지 현장실험에 적용할 실험기법 확보를 위한 일련의 과정을 마련하기 위해 제작된 장비를 이용해 소양호에서 현장실험을 수행하였고 계측된 결과를 참고문헌과 비교해본 결과 유사한 값을 갖는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.

정상운항 상태에서 쇄빙선박에 작용하는 설계 빙하중 추정 (Prediction of Design Ice Load on Icebreaking Vessels under Normal Operating Conditions)

  • Ice load is one of the important design parameters for the construction of icebreaking vessels. In this paper, the design ice load prediction for the icebreaking vessels under normal operating condition in ice-covered sea is discussed. The ice loads under normal operating condition are expected from sea trials in moderate ice conditions. In this sense the extreme ice loads during heavy ramming or accidental collision are not considered. Current study describes the global ice load on the hull of the icebreaking vessels. Available ice load data from full-scale sea trials are collected and analyzed according to various ship-ice interaction parameters including displacement, stem angle, speed of a ship and flexural strength and thickness of sea ice. The ice load prediction formula is compared with the collected full-scale sea trials data and it shows a good agreement.

북극해 항로의 자연환경과 선박운항 전망

  • 북극해 주변에 부존된 석유자원의 선점과 기득권을 확보하기 위한 선진 각국의 노력은 2010년대부터는 쇄빙선박과 빙해구조물의 수요 증가로 나타날 것이라 전망된다. 국내 산업계도 빙해역의 자원개발과 북극해를 통한 물류수송의 증가에 신속하게 대비할 필요가 있다. 본 논문에서는 북극해 항로의 역사와 자연환경에 대하여 설명하고, 북극해 항로의 경제성과 북극해를 통한 선박운항 전망에 대하여 논의하며 아울러 북극해 항로 이용에 필요한 제반의 경제적, 기술적 문제점에 대하여 기술한다.

  • 극지해역 운항선박은 주 추진시스템 및 선박 장비들이 일반 상선과 다른 경우가 많다. 따라서 극지운항 선박의 기관사들은 각종 장비 및 시스템에 친숙해져야 할 필요가 있다. 이 연구에서는 교육 및 훈련을 통해 극지 운항 선박에 승선하는 기관사관의 자질 향상을 통해 극지운항 선박의 안전운항을 도모하는데 있다. 또한, 그러한 자질 향상을 위해 필요한 Ice Engineer 교육 프로그램 방안을 모색하였다.
